  1. Oakley, Paxson, Gene Banks, Corzine, Cureton....those were the five leading scorers after MJ on the 85-1986 team. The next year, Oakley, Sam Vincent, Corzine, Sellers, Paxson. Ho Grant and Pippen both averaged 8 per game in their rookie campaigns. How are these remotely comparable to anything LBJ had to work with in Miami and Cleveland (2nd time around)? Not to mention MJ's baseball career messed up two additional title runs. And James has had an extra three years of playing in his prime. Not to mention the baseball foray again. Arguably 2-3 more titles had he come out even earlier and not played for the Barons. Michael Jeffrey Jordan (Mike, Air Jordan, M.J., His Airness, Money, Black Cat, G.O.A.T., Superman)
  2. So much for the squeaky clean image of the Cubs. Actually, most of their players are fairly likable...other than Arrieta, Lackey, Strop, and thankfully the Ross tour is over...plus you had Chapman's gun issues and now Russell. I suppose it's still a lot better (statistically) than the major problems with NCAA Div. 1 football and basketball teams. Then again, 100% "adults" should be held to a higher standard, as well.
  3. GOAT hopes gone for good...you can put a fork in them due to GSW. Every year he ages, the ability to close out games in the 4th quarter dissipates further. Just has taken too much hard contact over the years to keep going at this level (not to mention starting at age 18 playing that many games per year) for more than 2-3 more years. (The NBA removing Draymond Green from Game 6 and Curry's injury last year kept the NBA from becoming a complete farce, fwiw.)

  6. And attendance this year has proven they can fairly easily absorb a bottom feeding AL team and not implode financially. In fact, depending on results with A's and Royals, we'll be in last in the AL Central and last/next to last in the entire AL. Dick Allen referenced the sellout for Buehrle. Sox fans are still nostalgic about the past, and will turn out for those special events. (Of course, the real test is what happens in the second half of 2018 if there are no obvious signs of progress with the rebuild.)

  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) Logan Morrison having "Humble" from Kendrick as his walkup music is the most ironic, awesome thing ever. I read this as Howie Kendrick having started a music career, until my 47 year old self remembered Kendrick Lamar?

  10. Wasn't there a rumor a year ago about the Marlins being willing to trade Ozuna for Rodon straight up?

LOL...okay, I plead guilty for overhyping Iowa kids. Who has him for Adopt A Prospect? Dunning also wasn't on the shelf for two years, either. The bottom line is it's hard to expect anything BETTER than what he's accomplished so far coming off TJS.
  12. https://www.yahoo.com/news/gop-senator-admo...--politics.html In recent Senate history, when have TWO MEN ever been admonished like this (by members of the opposing party) for speaking out in a hearing...the examples of Liz Warren and now Kamala Harris by McCain? The GOP is just giving the Dems the 2018/2020 elections with all these talking points. The problem is there's too many to put into one 30 second ad, starting with the Gianforte attack on reporters in MT, Eric Trump saying Dems "aren't people" and Handel in GA-6 saying she doesn't support a livable wage.
  13. Where is our Kyle Tucker? Just promoted to AA, has been striking out quite a bit (more) but holding his own, seemingly.
  14. Or Melky is now productive because he recovered from fouling a ball off his face and then came up with a key hit?

Blake Hickman has come out dealing his first two SALLY starts. Pretty much the same level of dominance as Dunning. Impressive, considering the two years of inactivity due to surgery.
  16. Why didn't Smith simply bump into Robertson when he fell over the plate and was trying to throw out Beckham?
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) Again, emotional argument. If a poor kid from the hood born to a single mother gets hit by a stray bullet the hospital will take care of the kid's wound and then the kid's expense once it is learned that the collectability of that account is deemed uncollectible based on the family income. This process is becoming quite a burden on hospitals because of all the high deductible plans Obamacare has skewed the market with. The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) – now known more simply as the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)[1] – is a program administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides matching funds to states for health insurance to families with children.[2] The program was designed to cover uninsured children in families with incomes that are modest but too high to qualify for Medicaid.Wikipedia If the "average" middle class kids are getting hit by stray bullets on a constant basis in America, we have YUGE problems. Because you simply assumed a situation (the spectre of inner city drug and gang related violence) that has nothing to do with this particular program...it's actually the kind of thing Trump promised to do during throughout the election, to help middle class and "working poor" provide a better life for their kids. Of course, the GOP doesn't believe in a livable wage, so not surprised.

  23. Sounds like a humanitarian crisis if ever there was one... He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him. I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.' But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?
  24. But we have great solutions!! Many more housed in private prisons...and, The newest version of 'Trumpcare' may have some alarming implications for the opioid crisis http://www.businessinsider.com/cbo-score-a...d-crisis-2017-5 Christine Eibner, a health economist for the Rand Corporation, said that while there was a lot of uncertainty about how states would change regulations, it was reasonable to think state legislators would be under a lot of pressure to cut back on so-called essential health benefits, or certain conditions that insurers are required to cover, if other states are able to show that doing so brings down premiums. If that happens, substance-abuse treatment is viewed as the benefit "most at risk" to be cut, Eibner told Business Insider. Approximately 1.84 million people in the US are receiving treatment for substance-use disorders or mental illnesses through the Medicaid expansion or the ACA's individual insurance marketplace, according to research conducted by Richard Frank, a professor of health economics at Harvard Medical School, and Sherry Glied, a dean at New York University. All of those people would be at risk of losing the approximately $5.5 billion paid out for treatment through those two avenues of insurance. A 2017 Health and Human Services report found that approximately 34% of individual-market insurance plans did not cover substance-abuse treatment before the Affordable Care Act. Under the AHCA, a similar number would most likely either not cover treatment or begin underwriting substance-use disorder as a preexisting condition for thousands of dollars in premium surcharges, making insurance prohibitively expensive, Frank told Business Insider. Eibner said the individual market wasn't the only place where treatment coverage would be affected. While she said employer-sponsored insurance would most likely continue to cover treatment, she expected Medicaid programs in states rolling back regulations related to the essential health benefits to cut substance-abuse treatment coverage as well.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what happens when people in poverty end up in the hospital. Look up uncompensated care. Look up the recent trends in bad debt expense for hospitals following Obamacare and the accompanying increase in high deductible plans countrywide. This isn't a humanitarian issue. This is a business issue. The people getting killed financially by healthcare in this country are the middle class and lower-middle class - most of whom are insured. The people who are by no means living luxuriously, but have a house/savings/positive net worth/whatever. The destitute people are taken care of and their expenses that they can't afford are written off by the hospital as a part of routine operations. The nearly universal acceptance and praise for the CHIP program would argue otherwise...if you make an exception to cover the children of poor people (penalized through no fault of their own, other than being born to the "wrong" parents), then it's not easy to understand where the slippery slope begins and ends in terms of rights and privileges. Heck, you can even argue the government is setting conditions in place to protect/provide/secure your "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." That life is just protection from invaders like the British? Or also inclusive of one's mental and physical well-being, including educational opportunities?
