Agreed. They can't wait on Burdi, or expect him to make it up this year...at least counting on him pitching the 7th. Everyone that we draft is not Chris Sale. Rodon has been on a slower track, and we shouldn't rush Burdi because of a current gaping hole in the bullpen. #1 priority has to be the outfield bat that gets Shuck/Garcia off the field ASAP...eventually, that player can DH or play CF and Jackson becomes the 4th outfielder, but there's no way to compete without both of those needs being filled. Jackson's likely at LEAST 3 weeks away...they can't afford to fall to 10 games back and 6th-8th in the WC race. They also can't afford to wait on Justin Morneau...who may or may not be able to make a contribution this season. The obvious problem with all of this is the trade market is still not quite developing, so there's that significant risk of overpaying...like we already might have done with James Shields (contract-wise, not so worried about Tatis and Johnson).

Imagine you're a baby...do you really deserve to have a $19 trillion deficit hanging over your head that you had nothing to do with creating? Obviously, there's no easy or fair way to do this. One area I would recommend (and Warren Buffett agrees) is with the returning the estate tax to where it was in the late 90's (adjusted for inflation over the last 15-20 years) and having the rich pay a higher tax than the current 20% on capital gains. Simplifying the tax code, making it easier on not only individuals but small businesses. Prison reform...too much money is being wasted on ineffective policy with a high recidivism rate. Revisiting the harsh punishment system for drug crimes. Addressing the two core issues (fear of immigrants/Islam/terrorism) and fear of change (globalization/free trade/crippling of unions/outsourcing/loss of blue collar jobs), those are driving movements around the world on the right as well as the left. But two sides of the same coin, just different drivers/motivations/fears. Economics is always going to be a part of it, but culture is just as important, when we start going into the areas of religion and tolerance for other religions (as well as the growing numbers of people not oriented around any religious belief at all). Whether it's the Occupy Wall Street/1% vs. 99%/Us against Wall Street Bankers/Venture Capitalists or the Tea Party, unless the political middle/moderates can come up with solutions that can be universally-agreed upon by both sides, then it will be difficult to make progress and things will continue to be polarized with the status quo (essentially represented by Hillary Clinton) prevailing.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) Why do the old people need to give money to the young people in all of these scenarios? If the old people started out broke and worked their way up to making more money, why can't young people do the same? I would hardly call all of the benefits that went to soldiers coming back from World War II such as the GI Bill and affordable housing loans financed by the government...typically, were there lots of "broke" people in the 1940's and 1950's? Were the college/university costs nearly as high back at that time, in comparison to the average entry-level salary? One way or the other, if the generation of 18-30 year olds (and under) doesn't succeed, will it really have been all their fault when more than half the people growing up in the past could still make a "good living" in blue collar factory jobs and have enough money to raise a couple of children and, in many situations, for their wives to stay at home with the kids? When people are working longer and harder...and their incomes are not compensating them for their efforts...and they're not only not geting ahead but unable to save money and both parents have to work because that's the only way to survive financially (in order to give the kids that they never see a theoretically better future life/education)...something is inherently wrong with the system. Or we could just enact about half of the perfectly common sense reforms Michael Moore suggests in his latest documentary, things like improving the quality of school lunch food or prison reform (that idea came from Norway...or simply doing away with the self-perpetuating drug crime/for profit prison system, which is clearly broken). http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/23/movies/r...ocumentary.html

Sox win, almost implausibly. On a night they were 1/14 with RISP, Frazier is the HERO HERO HERO....holding out for a hero until the end of time. -

What is it with these almost 4 hour games? Encarnacion career-wise was at .331 with 9 slammies before that K with bases loaded. The anti-Tyler Flowers. -

Why didn't Saladino just dive for the bag? That's what he needs to be thinking about mentally....with runners on 1st and 2nd. -

Here we go again with our "ELITE" closer. Looks like another review. Saladino saved at least the tying run and maybe got the out at 3rd. Seems he was safe. Tagged on his side when his hands were already on the bag. Inconclusive. Saladino only needed to dive for the BAG, not the runner. MENTAL GAME. Would have been two outs, runners on 1st and 2nd. -

White Sox at the point where they almost have to try Leury Garcia or Jason Bourgeois in CF. Shuck is just killing the Sox. -

There's one pitcher that James Shields is better than, at least. Eric Surkamp of the A's is 0-5 on the season with a current 7.30 ERA. -

Big difference between Avila and Navarro defensively/game calling. Travis/Smoak (PH)/Carrera and Donaldson waiting for David Robertson. At least we don't have to face Bautista. -
Let's be honest. There are only a few solutions here that are realistic ones...but that are the political 3rd rail. 1) Older/retired workers agreeing to cut backs in their benefits (SS) or pensions in order to redistribute some of that money to their children/grandchildren's generation. OR, raising taxes on the wealthier older people across the world who have enjoyed the protection (freedom) of their governments from 1945 until today. 2) More immigrants in the areas of high tech/green energy, etc. POLITICALLY unpopular, except in Silicon Valley. 3) All of the governments of the world, but especially the Americans and now the Chinese...cutting back by 25-50% on defense spending and redistributing that money into more productive areas of the economy. OF COURSE, can you win an election based on a 1930's style Chamberlain Isolationism...sticking our heads and neck into the sand and HOPING against hope that NOTHING happens with global terrorism and/or there aren't any international conflicts. The same people who want isolationism from the world tend to hate the United Nations, so what's the solution here...if we don't control things (meaning the US, militarily), Americans get resentful of American soldiers/troops serving under Brussels. So what country is going to safeguard the world from terrorism and step into the breach in times of international conflict? Germany? No way. France? Nope. Brazil. Country is falling part at the seams. China? Nobody trusts the Chinese, especially in Asia. Russia? Good luck. That leaves America and India, basically. Indonesia has the issue with Islam (as far as the rest of the world perceives them). Japan and South Korea are increasingly becoming more and more pacifist/isolationist, w the exception of the North/S.Korea conflict. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%...amp;h=mAQFg_zaQ Think it was already mentioned...most Brits who voted don't even know what the EU is and what benefits it confers.

Crazy that Frazier has about the same number of steals as Eaton. He literally "steals" every one of them on pitchers not paying enough attention. -

Obviously Tim Anderson has had great baserunning instruction...well, it's also instincts, too. Those can't be taught. Anderson not scoring becomes a moot point. First hit in 13 tries with men in scoring position. Finally. Huge hit there for Frazier and the team. You had a feeling if they didn't score in that situation, the Blue Jays were going to score the next half inning against Duke/Jennings. -

Anderson would have scored there as soon as Encarnacion fell down. -
Greg, I would advise reading Krugman and Thomas Friedman of the NY Times on this... It might open up your perspective.

Ventura managing as if he'll be fired if we lose tonight. The only problem is who pitches the 8th...Saunders/Martin/Tulo. Only Saunders of those three is hitting well. -

0 for 10 with RISP. .127 over the last 8, now closer to the Half Mendoza Line. Lots of cap tipping going on from Harrelson/Steverson. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Shuck looks like a pitcher batting. Hahn has got to find someone to get some at bats in CF, as Jackson won't be back until after the ASB. He is a pitcher. For THE OSU, and this year, in a Shields start. -
