  1. This whole thing of blaming KW for Shuck or Sands is based on what exactly? White Sox completely falling apart at the seams...aggressiveness from Lawrie backfiring there, of course. When it rains it pours. But glad we didn't use Albers yesterday down by 2, lol.
  2. Albers' confidence is shot. Not going to get it back against this Tigers' lineup. We needed another rh reliever, outfield bat/lhb or dh or replacement for Avila even more. Rollins is done. Shuck and Sands are just not getting at-bats on a good team. Avi is still what we thought he was. Rodon hasnt taken a step forward and Sale is struggling without hs best fastball. Not to mention Latos' struggles...
  3. Worst defensive outfield now on the field in mlb will come into play?
  4. Would like to say that's the death knell for Sands but maybe not with Shuck and a possibly injured Coats behind him.
  5. Yeah, forgot Eaton wasn't in CF. Now Albers hurt in slippery conditions.
  6. Great play by Coats, though...hard situation with it right between them. Coats cut his lip it seems.
  7. If Eaton's hurt, the season is really in jeopardy. Great play by Coats, though...hard situation with it right between them. Coats cut his lip it seems.
  8. Flavum....if Abreu can't even turn on Pelfrey's inside 92 mph stuff, you just might be right. Just a terrible time for Cabrera to be out of the lineup. They just might have no choice but to try a managerial change with a 3-11 record against KC, Cleve and Detroit.
  9. Seemingly guaranteed Cy Young to Sale is quickly becoming less of a certainty. Now you go to Albers? But not yesterday?
  10. Need to pull Sale here soon...92 mph fastballs getting tattoed. Sale backing up or you have another run scoring.
  11. Baserunning, Abreu and the absence of Melky Cabrera killed the Sox when they could have put the game away in the first but let Pelfrey off the hook. That lack of a knockout punch has seemed to bite the Sox quite frequently during this current 6-16 stretch. Would be his first win of the season if they hold onto this one...which might not be so easy to do with that bullpen. Greene in for the 7th. Just got off the DL. Normally a starter. Sky high ERA. Looks like Shields will be starting Tuesday. Offday Monday. Better hope they can get a win somehow before they come back to Chicago or the USCF mood will be pretty ugly again. Thought that Albers game was the turnaround game they needed but apparently not.
  12. "Angry" 95 mph fastball there. Not scoring an extra run in the first and only get two off Pelfrey just not going to get it done. Martinezes killing the Sox again. Victor 18 for 38 career-wise against Sale.
  13. Btw, great aggressive throw earlier from Coats to hold Victor Martinez to a long single a couple of innings ago...couple of good plays, actually. Rollins's ops closing in on the 600 mark, aka new Mendoza line.
  14. Has to be a dead arm period for Sale...great changeup there to finally get Kinsler. Didnt want Aviles and Iglesias to be the ones beating you in that lineup. Still looking like an earlier bullpen appearance than Robin would prefer for a typical Sale start.
  15. Abreu constantly getting jammed by inside and low heat...can't turn on it yet. Sale hasn't been using his best fastball for the last 2-3 games. Has been topping out closer to 94-95 than his customary 97-98 mph for big situations.
  16. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2...kely-white-sox/ Yeah, Eric Stults and Clayton Richard have looked good in that park...no regret about giving Johnson an opportunity elsewhere. It just wasn't working out for him with Sox, for whatever reason.
  17. The Chicago White Sox have made it official, announcing a trade with the San Diego Padres for veteran RHP James Shields. Prospects Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis Jr. are both going back to San Diego in the deal. Shields gives Sox more depth in rotation, where he is expected to slot in after ace Chris Sale and Jose Quintana. According to multiple reports, the Padres will eat a significant portion of Shields' salary. ESPN.com
  18. I'm fine with it simply because they had to something (which apparently means no change in managers)...and there's no way you can have too much pitching. And as long as they figure out a way to replace Sands/Avi/Rollins getting so many important AB's...that has to be an equal priority. If that's all the money JR will authorize spending, it would be pretty dumb, but it's also a bit of insurance for Fulmer/Adams having too much pressure on them to be in the 2017 starting rotation (particularly Fulmer). Finally, there's a chance that Gonzo or more likely Latos can up their velocity with limited bursts out of the pen. Maybe the "loser" in who keeps his job will grumble about losing an opportunity to set themselves up for a big payday next offseason (especially Latos?), but hopefully it all is worked out by Hahn and Ventura in a way that's positive for the team chemistry and Latos/Gonzo.
  19. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/98066142/jam...oyals-clubhouse For those down on the deal, maybe this will help. Leadership/intangibles/chemistry doesn't sell like FIP or "peripherals," but it might be equally valuable to a team with a wavering belief in itself. That would bring to at least 7 the "new" White Sox attitude, being added to Latos, Gonzalez (who definitely was known for being a nice guy with an unfortunate streak of ind. losses and ND's, like Q has gotten that same "hard luck" label), Avila, Navarro, Rollins and Frazier. Has definitely been a "mixed" bag with those acquisitions so far, although an argument can be made we wouldn't be where we are without Latos' hot start and Frazier's power bat and mostly very solid defense.
  20. Yay for some execution there by the Sox, Saladino coming through and simply doing his job without shifting pressure to the subsequent hitters.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 07:48 AM) Game is at 3:10 I would hope they'd be in the 8th/9th at that time. Those rain arrival times were in EST....2-3 hours into the game.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 08:32 AM) Catcher is an incredibly scarce position, corner outfielder is not. I do agree there is some chance the ego factor could be at play and cause Hahn to protect him, although I still feel that would be the wrong decision. Courtney Hawkins will never be a good major leaguer IMO and there's no reason to waste a 40 man spot on him. We keep saying that, but Avisail Garcia has been a disappointment, and LaRoche and Cabrera were last season (putting together the idea of LF/RF/DH together). It's easy to find 700-725ish OPS types, but the true difference makers aren't easy to find, even at that position...especially when you factor in both offense and defense. Look at how much money went to Gordon, Heyward, Cespedes and Upton. Chris Davis hasn't exactl y been earning his contract from the Orioles, either. Three of those deals look terrible, Davis is close to it and Cespedes is at best a "fair price" based on his production and importance to the Mets' offense so far this year. The only players that were bargains (so far) have been Fowler and Ian Desmond, with Trumbo and Michael Saunders on the trade market. As it is right now, we're struggling to get a 700 OPS out of DH, let alone a 775-825. And, who knows, maybe Coats will be a pleasant surprise, for once...
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) Not protecting someone does not mean they're giving up them. Like I said, if Hawkins continues to strike out at a 35% clip, which would be worse than his first year in AA, there would be absolutely no risk in losing him. Walker & Mitchell at least provided plus speed & defense, so there was hypothetically a chance some team would snag them in the Rule 5 and use them as a bench piece. Hawkins simply doesn't have the skillset to be a Rule 5 pick. There's little risk for one of those cellar-dwelling NL teams to stick him on a roster for one year and see if they can fix his mechanical issues...stranger things have happened. Remember, we did the same thing with Nieto at catcher and have nothing to show for it. Did Nieto really have more upside than Hawkins still carries today? I don't think so. With the continued success of Thompson and Semien, other teams might start paying a bit more attention to some of our more athletic players and figure out ways to maximize their ability. High first round draft picks are simply embarrassing for GM's to cast aside until there's no other choice, like they did with Jared Mitchell after giving him about 3 too many chances.
  24. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/30743/trayce-thompson Thompson sporting a career OPS (roughly 40-45% of one season's worth of AB's) of over 900 still. Exited yesterday's game with a stiff back. Marcus Semien at 759 with 11 homers and 25 RBI's. Trayce, for his part, already has 9 homers. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...tching/2016/ALL Montas is close to being able to contribute as a reliever at the big league level. Those two have combined for 20 homers, the entire White Sox team other than Frazier is only at 32.
