But nobody trusts Hahn to get the proper value for him...need to assign that job to an outsider we bring in from another organization, unless it's Hostetler/Fabian/Haber.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
Cubs take the lead and give it right back again. Back and forth it goes. I guess Miller and Chapman will fix that.

Bachelor party disappointment
Right....Sex At Dawn. Would love to hear your response to this particular book. Although I agree, 85-90%, with what you're saying about being hypocritical and NOT "still being a good dad/father" while consistently cheating on your wife/gf and covering it up.

If you could add 1 player to this team.....
Maddon/Bochy/Rusty Kuntz/Banister (since we added ex Sox, might as well extend to managers, lol)

Seems like some men here need to read "Man At Dawn."

Conclusive argument against Avi in RF
Okay, do moderators want me to copy and paste the whole article so that EVERYONE can read it and comment about that instead of not reading it and making snarky comments? YES/NO??? And I'd love to hear ideas that don't give away half the farm system. Pearce from the Rays is one of the few that wouldn't...but even trading for him right now, as hot as he is, they're going to ask for a lot more than he's worth (let's say Spencer Adams). At least with Puig, you're applying the James Shields principle of buying low...the problem is if you're still not buying low enough.

Should be around a 4.5ish ERA if not for so many defensive miscues in the last 33 games that were not officially recorded as errors (Melky and Garcia last night)...

Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) I"m at a loss. Timeline: Post Tea Party election, Democrats push idea that their policies are radically outside the political mainstream, beat them in elections in 2012. Labeling is bad. DOnald Trump learns from this that labeling is okay, gets elected because of democrats, then pushes forth the idea that muslims are inherently radical in the sense that they want to murder and destroy the institution of America and should be banned, and it was a mistake to allow current muslim americans into this country. Linear A-to-B argument. What articles of the Constitution are these "radical liberals" completely disregarding? When the US was founded on the idea of freedom of religion, and it's also a country that is comprised of 99.2% immigrants (by original ancestry)...and we now want to put a "means test" on who we "trust" to enter the country, there's a big problem. Shouldn't all Italian immigrants have been blocked at Ellis Island for possibly being future/current Mafia members? Shouldn't all Asians be blocked because they could be part of the Yakuza/Triad? All Africans, because most Chinese think they are "dirty and have diseases"? (I'm not joking about this one, as sad as it is to hear quite often living here.) All Indians, because their children will take the place of our children in universities someday because of superior math/technology skills? All gays, because we'd have to build extra bathrooms for LGBT users. Too expensive to accommodate. All disabled, because they don't contribute anything to the economy and soak up social services monies.

Lyle Mouton, Craig Grebeck, Matty Merullo and Shawn 'Lil Abner for the bench.

And the timing isn't that bad at all considering it's the end of the school year across the country...could have been much worse. Still have a feeling that they stayed behind with their mother and didn't move to Chicago.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
Nationals rally to tie it...Ramos for a struggling veteran closer, one of the two dumbest trades in Twins' history, along with JJ Hardy to Balt for nothing of significance. And of course Almora is 6 for his first 16 with three doubles. Figures.

Danish demoted, RHP Michael Ynoa recalled
Ynoa only had value from a PR sense to fans, to make them believe he's this stud prospect. Only because of how much money he originally signed for coming out of the DR, it set the all-time record at the time, since eclipsed. There's no way anyone here is going to believe that deal doesn't get done if a POTENTIAL reliever isn't included in a huge deal like that. It's preposterous. The reason I brought up Adkins is because KW also tried to convince everyone Adkins had this great potential, when his ERA in Sacramento at that time was around 7 or something like that. Obviously, he didn't or couldn't say Adkins was the best scrub he could come up with and that his fastball was straight as an arrow, so he had to pull a Buddy Bell.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) Bruce Levine @MLBBruceLevine 4m4 minutes ago R Ventura cut short media session when second guessed about handling Miguel Gonzales and ifAvi Garcia takes fly balls .same guy asked both Lol Who was it? I wonder how sarcastic that last question/comment was, how it came across? At least Ventura last night showed a willingness to change back to Shuck, which FINALLY happened again today. He pretty much had no choice, as there were no credible arguments left for leaving him out there in the field when it was causing so many problems for the pitchers, who are already struggling as is without giving additional opportunities to the opposition.

Conclusive argument against Avi in RF
Thread about Avi Garcia requires reading the COMPREHENSIVE Avi Garcia article...which requires clicking on a link. Since it came from a "competing" Sox site, I didn't copy and paste it...or even part of it. Other than "showcasing" Avi Garcia to the Cubs or Brewers, we've yet to hear ANY possible rationalization for him being out there. Because if Shuck plays CF, he might cause an injury to a corner outfielder....well, that's rich. Shuck and probably Coats are clearly better defensive outfielders, and yet we continue to put Garcia out there. I guess the argument it's no big deal because Melky is ALMOST as bad, so, therefore...we have to tolerate Garcia if we're also willing to tolerate Cabrera (who can actually hit) doesn't make much sense, either. We can also see quite clearly that Adam Eaton's defensive play has deteriorated as well as a result of being moved around instead of simply staying in RF full-time. And I don't think anyone at this site can credibly argue that Garcia is likely to prove he can play the position adequately...and the fact is it would be better to hide him and hope against hope other GM's are dumb even though every member of this website can tell you everything you need to now about Garcia's series of defensive miscues over the last 2-3 years, starting with the injury on the ill-fated dive in Colorado.

Jose Reyes
Saw it tear apart the entire Iowa BB program (and fanbase) with Pierre Pierce and Steve Alford. It's a fair point of discussion. The White Sox brought in Wil Cordero, and we all know Albert Belle's history of incidents on and off the field when they brought him on board with one of the biggest contracts in baseball history at the time. I do think it's a fascinating morals/ethics/value argument about the willingness or tolerance for former PED's players...depending on whether they perform on the field or not. Nobody would support the White Sox any more if the Sox Charities program managed to get 3 of the players nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize but the team's record was 68-94. On the other side of that is the Christian idea of redemption/forgiveness, and many Americans love those stories where someone legitimately changes and redeems themselves...starting with Saul/Paul in the Bible. The question is what original crimes people are willing to forgive? Rape? Domestic violence? Child abuse (Adrian Peterson)? Pedophilia (Jared from Subway)? Gambling? DUI resulting in the death/s of another person (especially children)? Insider trading? Watching 50 Shades of Grey? Everyone has their own personal limits, where they draw the line. As others have pointed out, I think every president going back to Roosevelt cheated on their wives, with the exceptions of Carter and Bush, Sr. Dangerous to throw stones in glass houses, right? Now, we are in the mode of going back and judging past actions by the lens of today (Lincoln wasn't a great emancipator, he actually wanted to send the slaves to Liberia to avoid conflict...Woodrow Wilson was a racist...all former Confederate leaders tied to the KKK must be wiped out of history and even their military victories/strategies ignored). Where does it all end? Can we not use context anymore?

http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/6/15/1194...-field-for-some And, since we seem bound and determined to add a Braun/Bruce type, we might as well go for the high reward/high risk Yasiel Puig...Trayce Thompson has earned a starting job in LA (even when Puig comes back off the DL), and they've also got Pederson, Kiki Hernandez, Van Slyke (just came back from DL), Ethier (DL, but will return) and just signed Will Venable, so they're pretty much set for Roberts. Puig doesn't have a place or role sitting on the bench, and will be a distraction for the new manager. Plus, he's actually been playing RF pretty well this season, his defensive metrics are fine.

Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando
If anything, firing someone from their job would make them MORE likely to commit an attack. They can plan more independently, and fewer people will notice their mood/disposition, as clearly happened with not only his co-workers but also his wife. The problem is that you're relying on them to stop the attack, and not the FBI, because it's simply unrealistic to think the FBI has the ability to stop every single determined gun owner out there. Outlaw the guns? Well, they'll get them somewhere, on the black market or bring them into the US on a boat or whatever or through Mexico/Canada.

The Second Wildcard
Realistically, you have the Red Sox, Orioles, Blue Jays, Indians, Rangers and Mariners that are clearly better than the White Sox, as of right now. Then you have the Yankees, Royals, Tigers, Astros and Angels that all have at least some pretense of being in it. Other than TB, the A's and the Twins, you're looking at least 8-9 teams who are going to have more trade resources (financial or farm system or both) to make moves at the deadline. It's not far removed from the situation last year at the end of July, when they decided to hold onto Shark but not make any major additions, either. That strategy won't work this year...either. It's also terribly difficult to imagine them even finishing 2nd in the AL Central when they can't even beat any of those three teams in head-to-head match-ups...at least up until this point about 40% of the way into the season.

6/15/2016 Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox
Fwiw, in the post-game last night, Ventura didn't seem concerned about his job security in the least...very matter of fact. Did say something sort of non-committal about MAYBE putting Shuck in there for Cabrera (or Garcia).
