  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Lamont was fired in season I believe Yep, 11-20 in 1995. I should have known better. The Pirates quickly hired him (lifelong friends with Jim Leyland) and he spent a lot of that season in Augusta where I was working...as a consultant/advisor (and assessing Jose Guillen's maturity levels). One of the coolest things I did that year was getting a framed 1993 Chicago Tribune cover page after clinching the pennant autographed by Lamont...the one with Bo Jackson, if I remember correctly. His particular favorite at our stadium was the playing of YMCA, although by that summer I was thoroughly sick of that song being overplayed as much as the Macarena and "Centerfield" (John Fogerty)...and I can even say that I'm one of the few to go out with two MLB managers (now with Jeff Bannister getting the Rangers' job) and survive Hooters' wings over 50 times in one summer.
  2. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 05:25 PM) FIRE ROBIN TOO SOON? When's the last time we fired a manager in the middle of a season? LaRussa? That was after a 26-38 start. The nuclear meltdown start: here's always the 14-29 of 2001 (without Frank Thomas and with David Wells getting injured early) following up the success of 2000....but that team at least fought to get back up over .500 by July.
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) That website is trying to murder my computer. So the odds are 0.0375 percent. Lovely.
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Twins haven't scored a run yet this year. They do have 1 today, lol.
  5. Milone tmrw SHOULD be a winnable match-up. Minnesota's going to get into Chicago fairly late tonight because their game in DET was delayed by 3-4 hours. And they've looked even worse against the Tigers, getting swept.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) What is the deal with Eaton Pressure from the new contract. Who knows...he's streaky.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) I know I'm in the minority, but I'm encouraged by what I've seen so far from the Sox, even with a possible 0-3 start. Micah's holding his own. Flowers hit a big homer...there's that (considering how badly he looked for most of spring training). Johnson should have two hits today, actually. LaRoche lost a homer that would have been huge for him.
  8. 5 walks and 11 K's...incredible pitch count for that stage in the game. Homers for CLE from Jose Ramirez and some catcher I've never even heard of backing up Gomes.
  9. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) That issue, as we all know, being beards. I think it's because the White Sox didn't join that cancer challenge thing with Maddon and shave their heads like most of the Cubbies. What next? The World Cup hairstyles will come into vogue around MLB? Let's hope not. There are already enough babies here in China sporting that look. Although, in all honesty, Johnny Damon looking like Captain Caveman will stay indelibly imprinted on the minds of baseball fans forever. Beards forever! (Except on the Yankees).
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) I think they would be ahead if I was playing in his place. With KC's pitching coach, I'm 98% sure you would be throwing 98-101 MPH forkballs with a 16.8 K/9 IP ratio.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Worrying about a little showboating is just ridiculous. Get the minds right. It's about as helpful as Bo Ryan worrying about the officiating...in the end, you have to get things right in your own house. Criticizing KC is just taking the focus off the more important/pressing issue.
  12. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Infante must be thinking "Who must I have pissed off, to not be able to hit the same staff that the rest of my team is destroying?" Infante was never that good offensively...except when he played for the Tigers against us.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) He's a 5th OF at best. Who's helping to beat us today.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) WTF? Don't you find it a bit ironic that Wilder and KW's chickens are STILL coming home to roost....this time against the White Sox? It wasn't bad enough that it destroyed our Dominican talent pipeline for a generation, lol. Now part of the Olympic 400M relay team of Gomes, Luis Silverio and Paulo Orlando is coming back to haunt us in reality. I can sense a Phil Rogers "feel good" story coming out of this about Orlando at mlb.com tomorrow.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Hopefully no one falls off Yeah, keep Sale away from ANYTHING resembling a truck. And now we can dump on Conor Gillaspie's defensive shortcomings.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Well, I for one cannot wait to see the players ride in on CHEVY TRUCKS tomorrow. And Rise Against! Rise Against the Machines, Ultron or any team in the AL Central (not named Minnesota)???
  17. Perfect justice in the universal balance sense of things. Paulo Orlando's now getting revenge on his former organization. Rick Hahn's "basking in the sun" moment has lasted all of 15 minutes. Reality beckons.
  18. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) I will laugh my ass off if we tie this game up. Literally, it will fall off. Is that Bobby Molinaro or Bottles Blow-a-sav-io?
  19. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Bringing up Rodon won't add anything significant to payroll. Let him start a couple of games at Charlotte. If he is lights out, bring him up. If Sox continue playing like this, someone here (LDF?) will soon be talking about the 2016 draft class. As soon as flavum gives up with his mathematical projections of what we'd need to do to make a run at first place, that's when it is time to give up, lol. I'm sure depending on how Danks/Noesi fare and how Rodon's looking...reality might come sooner rather than later for one of them. Probably Noesi, due to payroll considerations.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) Oh no, this 0-3 made me realize some fans may be calling for the Sox to lose as many games as possible to get a better draft pick. NOOoooooooooooo. Please nooooooooo. Greg, stop. The season's way too early for "trade deadline" or firesale talk.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) No one cares in the Chicago media right now. The focus will turn to the NBA playoffs, Blackhawks and Bears draft. Yeah, you're right. Living here in China, I'm kind of isolated from that echo chamber. One thing is for certain, though....when you have a child, your perspective about the White Sox starting a season 0-3 changes remarkably. I'm not really even that upset like I would have been in the past. Just kind of....well, been here, done that, nothing new. 2011 should have taught us not to get TOO excited about this team ahead of its 2016-2019 timetable.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) So who do we trade Jose Abreu and Chris Sale to? With Rodon as the PTBNL.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 01:49 PM) They better not rush Rodon just to cover for the inadequacies of the current staff. That would be completely idiotic. Everyone knew the weaknesses (entire bullpen, other than Robertson, Danks/Noesi, or Tyler Flowers' likely season to come) nine months ago...they're not new. One thing that will be interesting to watch if they just completely tank coming out of the gate is how hot the pressure on Ventura gets in the media. This reminds me of the opposite of the wave that allowed the White Sox to swallow up the Indians in a series not too long ago in the past....where just about everything went right for us and we completely dominated.
  24. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Rodon better keep his bags picked bc he will be with the Sox soon. This pitching staff or coop has to be changed. Get some through the trade market or something That most definitely WON'T happen. There won't be any knee jerk reactions from Hahn...not in the first week of the season. And they're 100% not in a position to add to the payroll.
