  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:26 PM) Declining K rates from Samardzija are concerning. Overall, he hasn't been super duper this year. Dodgers seem to want to deal Puig, so wouldn't give up more than Q. While a fair deal, I would do it. Great talent, but don't trust Puig. You sound like Balta now. Actually if you correct for moving from the NL to the AL (two less at-bats from pitchers), and also moving from the AL West to the AL Central...his performance is pretty much in line with expectations, especially if you take away April (like with Eaton and Melky) and follow the general trendline for those three. He's also pitching longer into games, which is important in terms of resting tired bullpens in the dog days of August. In fact, he's pitched at least 7 innings now for nine consecutive games. He has been far and away the most effective this past month, 20 k's in 31.2 IP but a stellar 1.71 ERA. He started in April with 22 K's in 32 IP, then ramped it up to 32 k's in 36 IP in May but wasn't effective at all for the first half of June, as he was striking out 34 in 40.2 IP but nevertheless had an ERA of nearly 6 (5.75).
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Saved many lives. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/07/27/cinci...oncealed-carry/ And what's the ratio of successful interventions compared to the situations where someone else at the scene is shot by the civilian/good guy shooter? I'm guessing nobody has that useful statistic.
  3. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) How about Wilbur28? Something historical. Too old school? Has there been another major leaguer with that first name since Wilbur Wood?
  4. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:55 PM) Deals for Shark to TOR and SF in place. The deals are sitting there. KW is still "all in" on '16 and Rick is not so there's that drama right now. The problem is that the Giants have too much respect for Hudson and Vogelsong to push them out of the rotation at this point. Although surely we have interest in Susac/Sanchez (catchers) for one...
  5. 15:$22M, 16:$22M, 17:$22M, 18:$22M club option ($4M buyout) Reyes is owed basically another $55 million, including the remainder of this year. The price tag for CarGo's around $42.3 million, or a Melky Cabrera contract.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) They might trade him to us to try and get Anderson now They're not going to just dump or bench Alexei Ramirez now with how he's been playing recently. (Now it's getting confusing, I meant turn around and trade Jose Reyes to the Sox....there's two issues, getting CarGo for Avisail and figuring out who our SS for next season will be without screwing up our chemistry/morale from the last month. Kind of a delicate situation.)
  7. How long before Tulowitzki gets injured on that stadium turf? For all of those wishing he'd get back into playoffs contention, it's not like he was traded to the Cardinals, Royals or Pirates. Without some more pitching, TOR has far from an automatic path to the 2nd WC.
  8. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) I personally would much rather move Avi, Montas in a package for Cargo plus Cash. I like Q too much to move him. It's nuts to give up any prospects for CarGo unless they're eating a significant amount of that contract. It's not unlike when the Sox claimed Alex Rios. Somehow, if KW were at the controls, he'd probably be the only team in baseball to assume that contract as well. Trading Garcia, sure, might make sense but anything beyond that (Montas/Anderson) is just making it harder to compete over the next couple fo seasons. I detest those White Sox "cost savings" moves that deplete our talent base in return for more profitability. If you want Anderson/Montas AND to get rid of CarGo's contract, it better be more along the lines of the Thome deal. Even then, I don't think at his age and with the league change that he's going to be anything but a shadow of his former self in the AL.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) I'd offer a package of Shark, Putnam, & Montas for Puig. You hope that Puig, Erik Johnson, & Nate Jones in aggragate is an upgrade over Avi, Shark, & Putnam. If not, still sets you up nicely for the next few years. The problem with this is it's basically two relievers (Montas hasn't proven he can be an effective starter and go 7+ innings consistently) and a rental. Maybe the Dodgers would bite on it, but they'll hold out for Quintana. Obviously, we are not in a position at present time to deal both Q and Shark, that would end our playoff run before it even gets started. Or they might counter, it will take Shark, Anderson and Montas for Puig.
  10. Quintana for Puig is the only move that makes sense for both sides. The White Sox get a cost-controlled player how in the right environment is one of the top 3-5 players in the game and a legit superstar. He also could be a bust. The Dodgers get incredible consistency out of the #3 spot going into the playoffs, and, with Ryu, that provides them a formidable rotation in the coming years. Not to mention there's at least a 50/50 chance they can't retain Greinke's services, so they really need solid/reliable pitching, not veteran 4/5 guys who are placeholders.
  11. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:58 PM) Yeah, the Rocks will never have enough pitching. How many teams would have even trotted him out for #4? He had actually been really good for most of the season until recently. Didn't they use LaTroy Hawkins once or twice this year, or was that last season? Don't really follow the Rockies at all...
  12. Uh-oh. The legend of Kris Bryant is resuscitated. Perfect night ruined. Oh well.
  13. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) If I'm doing Q for Puig straight up I'd try to find a way to dump some dead weight instead of a decent prospect. Maybe I'm overvaluing Q but Puig's value has got to be pretty low (for him at least) right now, Except what need do they have for Danks, LaRoche or an outfielder?
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) JP Morosi said he could see Sox going after Tulo earlier today on MLBN Wow, that would be a shocker. Still hesitant about adding an NL bat in the middle of a pennant race, but you'd be crazy not to consider it. The problem is that Ramirez has actually looked pretty good the last 2-3 weeks. And that would surely mean they're trading half the minor league system. Most importantly, does Tulo really want to play for the Sox? Does he have the right to refuse a trade to the Sox...do we know the list of protected teams he can't be traded to?
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) Is this post serious? Actually, I should merely ask why Tyler Flowers is calling 10 consecutive cutters against DeAza when a single well-executed knuckle curve will wipe him out. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching/_/sort/blownSaves He's still tied for the major league lead in blown saves. That doesn't mean we're better off with Addison Reed, but he hasn't been the same pitcher he was the first two months of the season, either. My personal belief is he's getting more work in Chicago because there's no Betances/Miller to protect him, and that he's losing some of the crispness and velocity from his cutter. And, for whatever reason, he's become more reluctant to throw knuckle curves (blocking pitches isn't one of Tyler's strengths). At $12-13 million, you're paying a closer elite money...you expect elite results. I counted 9 relievers just on that first page with higher WAR numbers.
  16. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) This is our year. Getting to the playoffs this year would be even crazier than 1983's improbable 2nd half run in the AL West.
  17. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/b...15/seasontype/2 We just passed two teams for runs scored per game, and are neck and neck for 27th with the Phillies. YAY! The Cubs are only about 30 runs ahead. 3.57 RPG
  18. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) 33 pitches to close out a game you have a 3 run lead in. Which means there's pretty much no way you can bring him back tomorrow except for a single batter or two. And now Petricka was extended as well. Someone's going to have to step up tomorrow, either the offense or Samardzija. 19-12 last 31, 9-2/1-6/5-0 (15-8 sounds better!) This means flavum's projected records are about to start appearing again, haha.
  19. Why are we paying Robertson this much money again? It's almost like he forgot he was once successful with the Yankees against the Red Sox. Yikes.
  20. Finally a knuckle curve one batter too late.
  21. Jesus Flowers, not a single curveball. That's beyond idiotic considering how many of them you've watched DeAza miss during his White Sox career. Greg single-handedly jinxed Flowers back into the game outcome in a negative fashion. Of course Robertson could have waved him off and thrown the knuckle curve at least once.
  22. Now batting...Cody Ross.
  23. Never easy. The tying run comes to the plate.
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) The #Dodgers have let teams know that Yasiel Puig is available in the right deal, but teams showing much more interest in their prospects. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/625860527265157120 He's actually one of the few position players who fits in the here and now...and is on the right side of age 30, perhaps most importantly. Of course, the argument will be that "we don't want to mess with our team chemistry right now" and they'll end up making no decision and wavering, which is essentially the same thing as making a decision. If Josh Paul taking Mark Johnson's place on the 2000 playoff roster could have such a dramatic effect, one could only wonder what Puig would do. Hopefully more 52-9 or 2014 than 2015.
