  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) Sale is fired up. Pumping 98 a few times now. Too bad LaRoche wasnt.
  2. More terrible baseball from Eaton. Sale limited Cabrera to 0/9 with 7 ks last year.
  3. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) So again its robins fault that the offense has 6 players hitting below 200. His fault that the 2014 AL ROY and 4th place finish in MVP is hitting .206. His fault that the 2 of the sox better starting pitchers are getting hit around. So having a incompetent review team is robins fault. I'm pretty sure he doesn't hire the review guys. Thats the work off either the tv group like comcast of the upper command from the white sox that puts the review guys in place. The long line of gaffes we've been viewing isnt just the 3 plus years that robin has been here but before him. Im about 100% sure Comcast nor Bob Grim have anything to do with an internal video replay review team or group. Thats baseball ops.
  4. Yes, I blame it all on Buddy Bell! "The buck stops here." Truman meant it. Obama did too, but it was already too late. So it remains to be seen if the same thing holds true for magically fixing everything that ails the Sox before things get too far out of hand in 2015. We didnt see Robin taking any responsibility for fixing major internal problem that cost a game yesterday...great managers would never blame the replay guys for a failure of their own gut/instinct/intuition. Its called deflecting blame or not holding yourself responsible.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) 1) Thanks a lot, I spent some time on this 2)I'm not entirely sure that Wiseman or Long will drop that much but anything is possible, they were ranked in the same area of where our Sox were picking in a recent draft board I used to mock, I love Wiseman as a prospect, he has room for power and already is a solid contact hitter with plus speed a cannon arm and a terrific glove, they're both round 2-5 prospects in my opinion and around 3-4 on most draft boards. 3) I'd love Swanson too, great all around player and probably the top college position player, he'd immediately improve our already on the rise farm system, the only downside is the log jam our system has of almost MLB-ready middle infielders, he'd only add to that (Johnson, Sanchez, Saladino, Anderson, etc.) 4) I ignorantly don't know where they'll be drafted, but after some research Scott Kingery is my favorite of that trio, it looks like Newman is a potential top 5-10 pick after a great season and Kingery has comparisons to Kinsler and Pedroia for his swing, size, wrists, defense, and bat speed, Kingery looks like a supplemental pick so or Sox won't have a shot with him, if Swanson, Bregman, Buehler, Fulmer, and f***houser re still on the board at #8, I'd rank them as Buehler>Swanson>Fulmer>Funkhouser>Bregman for our Sox I love the new look Sox system since '13 after dominating on all phases: Draft (Anderson, Danish, Lowry, Mitchell, May in '13; Rodon, Adams, Austin, Jarvis, Fry, Trexler, Peter in '14), International (Adolfo, Alfaro, Nunez, Mercedes, Mota); and trades (Montas, Davidson, Sanburn, Rondon, Ynoa), I look forward to what '15 brings with the 8th overall pick, north of 5.3 million to spend on the draft, a trade-able John Danks, north of 3.4 millon to spend internationally, and already likely power hitting 16 years old Dominican RF Franklin Reyes, this system is underrated in my opinion, lot better than when KW traded for guys like Castro and Nestor Molina and Hynick, what wastes, Hahn just gets value after value (my only flaw under Hahn has been signing Jeff Keppinger to so much, Davidson for Reed was a good thought and still might pan out) Good post....Belisario might have been okay as well if not forced into closer's role. Paulino wasnt a loss of much. You can probably put overpaying Bonifacio at a position with high relative depth..but another OF injury puts him more into play fwiw. And otoh, youd probably prefer to see what Trayce can do if the Sox are out of it in mid-May. Does anyone know what injury Ynoa suffered his last outing?
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) great job.... a big question, do you think Wiseman and Long would drop that much. getting Swanson would make this draft extremely nice, if the sox can pick him. what are your thoughts on the 3 positional players from Arz, Newman, Scott Kingery, Dalbec ??? Kingery is related to Mike who played mostly for Sea?
  7. How does Swanson compare with Nick Gordon, Correa and Trea Turner? Seems to be a 15-18ish homer guy at the next level. How good is his D at ss? And what about Happ?
  8. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) How in the world do you put Fox and Aparicio over Collins and Appling? Both of those guys are on the shortlists for their positions ALL TIME. You know it's going to wind up Thomas/Konerko/Buehrle/Baines or something like that. EDIT: it's also infuriating that all they're providing on the page is BA, HR, RBI Simply because they're not as iconic in terms of representing the heart of what it means to be a fan of this franchise. Crede, Rowand and Ordonez....even Ventura and McDowell will get more votes as well. Bill Melton...Dick Allen.
  9. Frank Thomas, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Nellie Fox, Aparicio. Billy Pierce and Minnie Minoso might be the best ambassadors the club has ever had, and nicest guys, but can't be the Top 4 IMO. I wouldn't put Harold Baines there over any of the Top 4, either. Ed Walsh, Hoyt Wilhelm, Ted Lyons, Red Faber, Ray Schalk, Eddie Collins and Luke Appling have arguments as well. Carlton Fisk...but didn't play quite enough to be considered more White Sox than Boston.
  10. If they take Cameron because of his White Sox roots, I'm going to.... Happ would be fine, same with Fulmer. Matuella, Kirby and Cameron are way down, and nobody knows yet with Aiken's uncertain medicals...anywhere from 7-10, to the 20's to the 40's in the early second round (and a lot less money, unfortunately, for him and his family). Chris Betts, Tyler Stephenson and Taylor Ward are the 3 top catchers on the board at the moment. Lucas Herbert in the 3rd-5th round.
  11. Moustakas and Hosmer might be punks sometimes, but Lawrie trumps them both. And at least Erik was one of the main guys to pay for a huge open bar tab for KC fans at the Power and Light District after a huge playoff win last year...
  12. http://www.southsidesox.com/2015/4/18/8448...after-challenge SSS's Jim Margalus takes Ventura to task on this one...impossible to argue with his take, I guess with one notable exception. Even CHRIS FREAKING RONGEY blamed O'Nora, Ramirez, RV and the video replay guys as all being part of the chain of unfortunate events. Pointed out that Ventura has ONLY had open disagreements with Alex Rios and Chris Sale (3 times) in the media.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 06:03 AM) Yeah, I am pretty sure a real manager has this team 9-0. While many say not challenging yesterday despite what the video guys tell you cost the Sox the game, the 1 run on 4 hits seems to have been ignored. I am sure that is his fault too. Not the point/deflecting.
  14. In reality, Ventura was "safe" because he insulated management from criticism and bought them some time. It actually worked for 4 1/2 or 5 months in 2012, but I'm convinced (like Balta is about Brian Anderson vs. Mackowiak in 2006) that Dick Allen, the former player, or the poster, could have essentially accomplished the same thing by virtue of not being Ozzie and giving the franchise a reboot and a breath of fresh air. The problem is that he's simply not a good enough manager when the White Sox face superior or equal talent that he can close the gap enough...it seems the opposite has become true, he's one of the main (perceived) reasons that a seemingly talented team has been lacking direction/fire/motivation for going on 3 seasons now if you include the crash of 2012 and the beginning of 2015/last two weeks of spring training malaise.
  15. 4 out of 5 career hits for Paulo Orlando are triples...pretty amazing. They're calling it the Royals' Track Team/4 X 100 meter relay (Dyson/Orlando/Gore (when he's up on the roster) Cain/Rios/A.Escobar) can run with the best. KC already has 9 stolen bases in 10 games. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...&mode=video More evidence why B.Lawrie is a d--k and you don't want him on your team, really.
  16. Yep, and the umpires still reserve the right to review a play in extra innings even if a team has used their challenge already.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) He did make the f***ing tag. By "Make the f***ing tag" you seemingly refer to "touching the person approaching the base with the ball". Alexei Ramirez did that. The important point of course is that Robin Ventura's mistakes are everyone's fault except Robin Ventura's™. Because the third inning is exactly the same $&@?ing inning in DAs book of baseball axioms...that the results of an unsuccessful challenge in the third would have the same impact on an eventual win or loss outcome. If he held his hand too long with the tag, got spiked and was out for 4-6 weeks like Rios, they would say Alexei made a dumb play and blame him for the Carlos Sanchez/Micah Johnson/Gordon Beckham show during that time. And if we are going to applaud Garcia for not diving, we should applaud Alexei for being one of the most durable shortstops in the game for avoiding unnecessary extended contact there. And 98% of the time mlb umpires will automatically call the runner out there when the throw clearly beats him...like the phantom tag of second by middle infielders on double play balls.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) No team plays back with the winning run on third and less than 2 out. You're telling me with 1st and 3rd or bases loaded (two consecutive intentional walks) and you're playing for a DP they're not going to be 2-3 steps further back at least? Why? You don't absolutely have to cut down the winning run at home plate...why do 90-95% of managers put those runners on as well (unless his pitcher is having control issues)?
  19. Why did Ventura not know you couldnt ask for a review after the pr was inserted? Ausmus>>>Ventura
  20. No hitter for Kluber through five. Jinxes dont exist for non-Sox, lol.
  21. Lets blame Balta instead...thats just as logical as blaming the video guys or all those Sox hitters who have never ever in a million years been able to execute sac bunts and correspondingly never learned (especially) if they were products of our minor league "system" for developing hitters.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) Trayce Thompson homer. Helluva start to the season. But can he manage? Maybe we need a change from KW's Raiders/"Chicago Tough" mentality to basketball instead, lol.
  23. Ventura is actually aware of the fact Jose Iglesias is 3rd in hitting and 9th in ops for all of MLB, right? At least now he might be...hopefully.
  24. QUOTE (DashFan @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) I don't like Robin's excuse that the rest of the staff and guys upstairs didn't think he made the tag. Who exactly does the buck stop with? Who is managing this team? Most importantly, why is he asking?? He has nothing to lose. Use your damn challenge! I think we have lost at least two games now because of mismanagement. You make these mistakes in your first year, not your third. I hope they don't waste this season waiting for Robin to figure things out.
  25. KW said Robin Ventura had the IQ and EQ qualities of a general/military leader (upon his hiring). Leaders lead, and trust their own judgment...after all, he's the one with the loss on his record, not the Sox video review coordinator. So do what KW claims you were born to do.
