  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) And he will never have any experience if you pinch hit for him in the 6th inning for a guy hitting under .260 and well under that with RISP Except Leury Garcia's irrevelant to the 2015-16-17-18 White Sox. Beckham getting a hit there does more for his trade value...arguably, and we have already have Saladino/Semien, etc., that will take over Leury's role next season.
  2. Can we start a 2015 DRAFT PICK thread now please? God, that was awful. Of course, Petricka will walk someone when the bases are loaded...well, because it's the White Sox 2014 bullpen.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) I don't understand your point? Beckham gives a better chance but he still sucks with RISP Umm...Leury Garcia just doesn't have ANY experience in that situation. He has two RBI's all season.
  4. WHY WAS THAT THROW NOT TO 2B? JESUS. Too many mental mistakes out there this season. Seems like last year all over again. "If there are mistakes like that which keep happening over and over again, you've got to send a message." DJ on Ventura This is the at-bat of the game, undoubtedly.
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) A righty was pitching? Morin is a righty.
  6. These last two weeks suck. White Sox collapse. Montas and Tim Anderson injured now and will probably miss the remainder of the season. Ventura managerial decision. World Cup team out when they had a great chance in the 92nd minute at point blank range.
  7. Jackson and Farmer are really expressing doubts about why you would possibly leave Carroll in the game down by one when the bullpen and entire team will have an offday Thursday. Gordon Beckham has a huge disparity facing LH vs RH (665 vs 900+ against LHP) but Leury Garcia's down in the 400's. If you don't bat Gordon there in favor of Leury Garcia, I don't know exactly what to say.
  8. Ventura. Leury Garcia has TWO RBI'S THE ENTIRE SEASON. YOU HAVE HIM HITTING 2ND and YOU JUST LEFT GORDON BECKHAM ON THE BENCH. Please explain your thinking.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) You can hear Rich Hills dfa papers being printed out. How could they scout this guy and let him pitch in the majors? I've seen a lot of crap this year but Rich Hill is the worst I've seen definitely. It's a toss-up with Leesman.
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) Adam's walking a lot lately Intentional unintentional...or vice-versa.
  11. Obviously they wanted to face Leury. If you bring in Beckham as a PH, then Scioscia goes to the bullpen again. Manager's battle of wits here.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:44 PM) Sox catchers strike out a ton Well, considering his appropriate placement is Birmingham, at best, that he's performing adequately defensively at least is better than....nothing.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) C'mon Jack Z, give Hahn what he wants. Sierra/Michael Taylor/Jordan Danks/Marcus Semien playing everyday? Ackley in LF? Viciedo back up to a 710 OPS. Two outs. Ex-Cub Rich Hill coming in to face Eaton?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) 6-5 game, Viciedo starting to hammer those hangers Were all three of his recent homers on offspeed pitches or just 2/3? The two in Toronto, at least the one against McGowan was 85 or 86 MPH. The other was against Dickey or Buehrle? Dickey, I think.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) It's scary how similar Axelrod and Carroll's WHIP and average against are when comparing 2013 Axelrod and 2014 Carroll. It's very disappointing to see the same junk in the 5th spot again this season. Hahn has got to put the team in position next year to have better depth. And that's the tricky part. We need one more quality starter, but you'd have to doubt we would be willing to invest $60-80 million into Masterson, for example. Signing a veteran fifth starter for around $8-12 million per season doesn't make sense either, unless you have solidified the rest of the rotation. At this point, one is starting to get the feeling that Danks and Rodon are going to be touted as the answers. And, of course this is where the disappearance of Erik Johnson is killing us. Even all the LH hitting targets are going to be overvalued (Seth Smith, LaRoche, Melky Cabrera, Lind, Victor Martinez, etc.) Colby Rasmus, same thing, except on the negative risk side...are they still willing to throw $60-80 million at him, and how do you justify it based on his entire career's worth of results?
  16. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) Then sign Capuano for the minimum, he can LOOGY, long relieve and be a 5th starter depending on what you want to do Well, that actually MIGHT be morely likely to happen than either a Surkamp or another Leesman start.
  17. Another telling stat with Carroll. OPS against as a starter=961 (and climbing) OPS against as a reliever=661
  18. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) The Scott Carroll Starter Experiment might be great for #TheRoadToAProtectedDraftPickMeaningWeCanSignShieldsOrSomeone but I hope it's ditched soon for the Eric Surkamp Starter Experiment With Ventura wanting to preserve the LHP for 7th-8th inning match-ups, I wouldn't be at all shocked if they tried Heath instead.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) I know all those acronyms mean something and guys throw them out there like crazy, but it's all Greek to me. All I want is someone to be productive and the Sox to win One thing we can absolutely count on...the trade return will not be 23% above what we are hoping for with Dunn. Unless miracles do exist, outside of Olympic ice hockey.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) No, I won't look at it that way because we're going to spend the $3-$5 million anyway. We're not going under budget on international signings according to anyone. The question is whether I'd prefer to lump it all in this guy or to go and sign as many 16 year olds with bats as I can find. That comparison doesn't work. If we signed this guy, it would make absolutely no difference regarding whether we need to make a major signing for whatever position in the next 3-4 years, because he's a 19 year old and he won't be a major contributor to the big league club for 3-4 years at the very least if everything goes beautifully. That's where we will have to agree to disagree, and neither of us know the answer as it's all just speculation. If it's 2 years instead of 4-5, and he's projected to be a true impact player by Abreu, then I'd put all my eggs in that one basket. If you can instead put him on the Hawkins/Anderson track, and you're just adding pipeline depth/lottery tickets, then pass.
  21. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws&c_id=cws Tough kid. Refreshing, after watching soccer plays fall down the last 3 weeks at the slightest touch, and half the time "inventing" contact through the Strasburg School of Acting.
  22. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws&c_id=cws Tough kid.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) But no one would ever have said that Alexei was a candidate to be one of the best players in the big leagues. You're not making a strong case here that he's a guy who would be a top 5 pick. The Cubs paid Concepcion better than the first pick in the draft, or the Phillies with Miguel Angel Gonzalez. Or look at the money the Dodgers gave two middle infielders that are parked in the minors. It's hard to compare the under 23 international spending area with the June draft, anyway...and then again with the amount they would be willing to spend on an Abreu or Tanaka. That said, Abreu's very familiar with this kid, so surely Hahn has already had that conversation about his ability, work ethic, how he would fit in chemistry-wise, etc. You can also look at it like this...would you rather give Ben Zobrist, for example, $75 million or this kid $3-5 million? The thing is....we know the Cuban players intimately now through our relationships with Torres, with El Duque and Contreras, through our 4 current Cuban players...I trust that network 10X more anything we have going in the Dominican right now, at least until we start to see some real/tangible results.
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:47 PM) Dunn pretty unproductive And yet he's still second on the team in OPS at 804. Conor's at 788 despite his first homer.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) That movie pissed me off at the time because Denise Richards seemed like the only girl to not go nude in it. Thank God for Wild Things. Whatever happened to Neve Campbell, haha? What was her name (the other main actress in SS)? Dina Meyer or something. I remember she used to appear on Beverly Hills 90210. Starship Troopers has kind of become a cult classic over the years. Patrick Muldoon completely disappeared from the face of the earth after that one...and I can't remember the name of the guy who plays the hard-ass sergeant, but he's perfect in the role.
