  1. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 25, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Great foot skills by Dunn there. he is a big dumb animal folks. But very entrepreneurial.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 25, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Rienzo is a 1 pitch pitcher...............Yankees picked right up from yesterday. There is no momentum in baseball. Or so they say. Great catch by Eaton. And not injured on the play, so there's that. Rienzo should pretty much be unnerved with all the pitches thrown so far, missed pick-off, and the play at 1st base that was close to nullifying the 4th run.
  3. Second time in recent weeks a Gordon Beckham "error/non-error" led to a huge early inning for the opposition.
  4. Cotts is still pitching this year, haha.
  5. White Sox 0-3 their last three May 25th games against the Yankees and haven't scored against them on this date since 1945... Well, that's not a good omen. Or this: Masahiro Tanaka broke out laughing, even before his interpreter could parse his response from Japanese into English. The Yankees pitcher had been asked if he would fix a problem from his last start (against the Cubs), working up in the strike zone too much (and the Cubs taking an aggressive approach).
”Just watch me in the game,” Tanaka said. The White Sox honored Derek Jeter in a pregame ceremony that included a video tribute. Paul Konerko, also retiring after the season, presented Jeter with gifts on behalf of the White Sox: a unique bats and bases bench made by former big leaguer Ron Kittle (some of the bats include Dave Winfield, Moose Skowron, DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Rizzuto, etc.) a plaque and a $15,000 donation to Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation.
  6. Let's not forget how well Sergio Santos has done since leaving the Sox. Not that we got a great trade return there, but at least we avoided paying him the early money we committed to him.
  7. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 25, 2014 -> 07:46 AM) Scott Downs makes $3.7 Mil and Lindstrom makes 4 Mil. I would still take Reed at 550,000 . At the time of the trade, did you have reason to believe (and still today) that Conor Gillaspie would hit well enough against lefties, as well as hit for enough power in general and defend at an improved enough level to hold down 3B for the next 3-5 years?
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ May 25, 2014 -> 07:12 AM) That's an old way of looking at these events that isn't supported by psychologists. Seems to be a media created motive because mental health experts really don't have an answer. http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2014/...e_response.html Yet another angle, that he was taken advantage of by Pick-Up-Artist "indoctrination/marketing" and lashed out because it didn't work out for him successfully. BTW, I thought THE GAME was really old news? Even Ders on WORKAHOLICS gets ridiculed for using "negs" in one of the episodes this season. http://jezebel.com/5906648/the-angry-under...-pickup-artists The Angry Underground World of Failed PUA's The goal of the Anti-Pickup-Artist Movement, as stated on its highly official title page, is to reveal "the scams, deception, and misleading marketing techniques used by dating gurus and the seduction community to deceive men and profit from them." Here, you'll find the sad, scary, skeezy world of men who have turned their backs on said seduction community after spending thousands of dollars on "educational materials," seminars, and boot camps to no avail. Click on "Get Instant Access" and you'll find yourself amongst, as one PuaHate poster puts it, "thousands of ex pua students that payed the $ , learned and practiced the materials, and got no results based on said materials." Results, apparently, would entail mass quantities of sexy women lining up to bone him and his ilk, regardless of the fact that they spend all of their time ranting and raving on a misogynistic website.
  9. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4531698.story Tale of two seasons, Micah Johnson and Davidson write-up from TRIB. Davidson seems like he's coming around, maybe the bruised thumb affected him more than he's letting on. Keeping the bigger picture in perspective, seemingly.

  11. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ May 24, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) I agree that the lack of Ks from our top pitching prospects has been somewhat alarming but I do find it peculiar that all of our top draft choices that are being groomed to be starters have hit the same wall in their development. This similarity and the evidence provided by this first-hand account of Chris Beck's start in BIR lead me to believe that these pitchers are forced to focus on a certain aspect of their pitching arsenal to help develop their overall game. Also I could imagine that pitchers like Danish have been told to limit velocity and focus on location as well to save their arms while building arm strength which could explain Danish's lower velocity totals. We all know he is capable of hitting the mid-90s so there are has to be some other explanation for the decrease in velocity. How does that explain what's going on with Erik Johnson?
  12. Cleto just picked up his first save for the Knights tonight.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) According to the gun at the park today he broke 90 a lot. Then Betances must have been at 97-99.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) four posts. this stuff's old hat. no one cares. move along. sigh. So you're saying we shouldn't care because society has become completely anesthetized by the ubiquitous nature of these types of events? If anything, that only causes the perpetrators to be more creative and vicious in their attempts to break out of the random noise and grab the headlines, like the suburban Denver movie theatre killer.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ May 24, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) I'm really not sure how the league views Dunn at this point nor how they would view after a good season this year Well, we saw the return for Alex Rios. Not pretty.

  17. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...rs-loss-yankees White Sox bullpen K/IP the lowest in the AL, even though their overall ERA for the past month or so has been the best. Too much contact...these kinds of things will happen. We don't have a Betances in our system.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) Starting Garcia in LF instead of Sierra just made no sense during the game, and of course, it hurt the Sox today. Between that, not guarding the line when Solarte was up, and using ADA and Garcia instead of Flowers/Gillaspie in the 10th....it just makes you wonder how in the world these decisions are/aren't being made. Both those big hits in the 9th (besides McCann's gork shot) were to the opposite field down the lines, right? As we noted yesterday, Robertson has only given up 2 hits in 20+ at-bats to lefties (one was Dunn's GW the night before) and Conor has been struggling in the last 2-3 games. That said, your #3 hitter for most of the season, even against someone who gets lefties out (statistically) like a LOOGY...leaving him on the bench for Leury Garcia is questionable. And there was one ball in the 9th that was initially held to a single where the Yankees' radio announcers were really crediting Garcia with getting over there quickly and holding the runner, not sure which one off the top of my head since it was 5:30 a.m. and I was only half-awake.
  19. If Nieto doesn't get caught between first and second in the 2nd inning, we'd have had 1st/3rd, no outs and one would suspect, at least a 4-0 lead. Then Belisario isn't entering that game in the 9th. FWIW, that was definitely the most painful loss of the season, and also in front of the largest crowd (after Opening Day) of the year. Ventura might have to go to Webb, sooner rather than later, but I don't think he's earned it quite yet. Nevertheless, he has more dynamic stuff than Petricka.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 24, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) Who is Pentecost? Haven't heard much on him. Max. Catcher. Kennesaw (GA) State.
  21. Did anything good happen tonight?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) How is he still on the 40-man? Same reason we still have Mitchell, Danks, Axelrod and 1/2 the Charlotte roster there. I'm guessing they don't want to needlessly expose a better prospect to being lost at some point until they actually have to be placed on the roster.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) Gillaspie looks gassed up there. No bat speed at all. The Sox desperately miss Abreu's power in this lineup. Which is the original reason behind the platoon idea in the first place...
