http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...49383--mlb.html Biggio might want to hire Tony Montana to take out Gurnick and this other guy.

I'm down to my final 10 out of the Top 50 movies of all-time (http://www.afi.com/100years/movies10.aspx) Are any of the below listed movies really worth seeing? Still have to watch Singin' in the Rain, City Lights, The General, Annie Hall, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Dr. Strangelove, King Kong (1933 version, saw the two more recent ones), It Happened One Night and Intolerance.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) No. DVD is 480 at best. The Academy does not release HD versions bc they know leaks will happen. It's still best to watch these first in the theater unless you're a degenerate with no life or stuck in China for seemingly 10 years. Now, now, now, I've also lived/worked in South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Colombia during that time period...

If Biggio and Morris (simply because it's his last year) make it ahead of Thomas, it's a complete joke.

Dallas Buyer's Club and Lone Survivor are really strong movies. Matthew McConaughey's gone from something of a joke to another Ben Affleck/Christian Bale in the course of just a couple of years (The Lincoln Lawyer, Magic Mike, Killer Joe, Mud and Dallas Buyer's Club). It's going to be a shame if he's not nominated for an Oscar. Just not sure enough people (outside of critics) have seen DBC or Lone Survivor. Crosses fingers they get the recognition they deserve.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) White Sox fans do not deserve a "feel good curtain call" for PK. Like most fan bases in baseball, Sox fans only attend games when the team is winning. Trotting PK back out there for everyone to chant "Paulie" for one last go around, does not help this team win games in 2014 nor does it build towards future winning seasons. If Hahn can find a way to keep PK on the roster just to DH vs LHP in a platoon with Dunn, and it does not take away from Viciedo's plate appearances, or the Gilaspie/Davidson platoon at 3B that I want to see, then I'm ok with it... but I just don't see how that can happen as the roster is currently positioned. That's not going to happen.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 04:19 AM) Looking forward to Lone Ranger and Jack Ryan. The one that already came out? You're going to be greatly disappointed.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) I know this won't be a popular choice but I think AJP would make a great manager after he retires, whenever that is. I'm all for moving on from Ventura though. Great 3B and teammate, not so great manager. Greg will be thrilled. So there's that. Not as much as Ozzie coming back, though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) Eaton sounds like AJ II. I don't care about the players' personalities. I'm sure there are tons of rich assholes in the game of baseball. Who cares? If anybody doesn't like AJ or Eaton, who cares?? They are all in it for two reasons. 1.) the money. 2.) to a very very lesser degree the WS ring. Not the hot babes?

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) I'd be surprised if they add a catcher outside the organization with any significant potential upside. I don't rule out a trade for a catcher, just don't know that they land anyone who makes the fan base feel better about the position. De Aza is probably going to get moved before spring training, but i don't know what sort of value he has - maybe he lands them a catcher of some ability, but outside of that, I think most of their moves have been made - adding some arms for spring training competition, landing some young talent to help immediately in CF, 1B and 3B. I'd love to find another young offensive player who is similar to Davidson (top 100), but doubt that happens this winter. Who would you trade to get that player? Alexei Ramirez? Rienzo? Nate Jones. DeAza alone probably isn't going to net that type of player.

Wasn't he also on one of the Star Trek tv series as well?

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) I'd probably pass on seeing the female version but I couldn't be certain until I saw a trailer for it and who's actually in it. Give me Angelina Jolie and I'm in! I think she has too much pride in herself and her career to take a movie role (and paycheck) like that...although she would be a better fit than someone like Julia Roberts or Meg Ryan, who have never done action movies like Tomb Raider. Surprised they didn't have Uma Thurman or Lucy Liu listed as possibilities. Helen Mirren or Judi Dench would be good, as well, as the operations commander.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) The AL and NL splits don't show up all that different. The AL DH's have 20 points higher of OBP but similar slugging numbers, so the AL DH's have a .725 OPS, the NL is at .705. That makes Dunn or Viciedo look a bit better...the days where you expected an 800+ OPS from 4-5 positions in the line-up are long gone.

http://screenrant.com/female-expendables-movie/ Cast for female Expendables? How much interest is there for a movie like this? Lone Survivor... I cried... Like 4 times. I'm a sucker for war movies. It didn't get to me like Saving Private Ryan, for example, but it was a lot more emotional than Zero Dark Thirty. Black Hawk Down is about the closest comparison for it (the post 1990's wars) that I can think of off the top of my head. Act of Valor, last year's SEALS movie, wasn't nearly as good...not even close. Just started watching Redford's ALL IS LOST.
-
Maybe I missed something, but I watched Lone Survivor and American Hustle back-to-back and I'm 100% sure that Lone Survivor was a better picture. I'm just not getting all the love for American Hustle. I don't think I've ever disliked Bradley Cooper or Jennifer Lawrence as much as I did in this picture (yes, I know, they made themselves unlikable, not easy for them to do...great performance, etc.) Amy Adams was solid, and Christian Bale was also quite good, but there's just no way it's a Top 5 picture of the year.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) In all honesty there should be a cap as to how much foreign players can sign for. I admit there have been guys that prosper in the MLB but plenty end up busts too. If the Japanese, DR, Cuban, Venezuelan leagues and etc are considered to be the some equivelant of the MiLB then why are foreign players able to be signed for multi year/ multi million dollar contracts without ever playing in the MLB ? Minor leaguers have to 1) prove their worth in the MiLB to get the callup and 2) take league minimum pay for their first three seasons before they hit arbitration when they are finally able to earn millions AFTER they have proven themselves in the MLB at league minimum. Talk about s***ting on your home grown talent. I'm surprised the players association hasn't had something to say on this, well, I haven't come across anything anyway. Because those American-born high school players have a 1/100000 chance of being ready for the big leagues at 18. We can throw out a few examples like Griffey, Jr., or Bryce Harper, but the NBA frequently has 5-10 eighteen and nineteen year olds come into the league every year and play right away. And they still have the opportunity to get signed to huge bonuses in the draft.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) It seems like it is very difficult to find historical stats on Japanese baseball period, other than the fact that hitters like Casey McGehee can look like Miguel Cabrera over there. Our own Shingo didn't exactly look like Mariano or Trevor Hoffman or Lee Smith or Dennis Eckersly did he? Your argument is what? That the league is AAA or something? Where's your stats statman. Go find some reference and I'll look at it. Your comparison to the WBC is completely irrelevant to the overall quality of the league. There are limits to the amount of foreign born players on a team (just like the Chinese Basketball Association will only allow 2 or 3 foreigners per roster). There always will be. So the scenario you described will never happen. You have to look at it from the other side of things. There are a lot of Japanese baseball players who are comfortable enough over there who don't want to play in the US. Maybe they don't like the food or culture or they can't speak English, or don't want to relocate their families. Maybe they've watched from afar what happened with Hideki Irabu and how the pressure tore his playing career, family and eventually even life apart, ending up in a tragic suicide far from home. Another factor is the Japanese players do 10X the amount of training and drills and practicing. They think American athletes are coddled/spoiled and only care about their own statistics. They have comfortable lifestyles in Japan, where many of the players are considered heroes...in the same way a role player like Joe McEwing or Jose Oquendo became a cult-like figure in St. Louis, for example. The lack of fundamentals (see 2013 White Sox) is the antithesis of the Japanese and Korean approach to baseball. In my opinion, every team in MLB would be better off if they had one or two role models like Tadahito Iguchi to show the smaller guys like Beckham or Alexei they don't have to hit 15-20 homers to be effective players.

I don't really get it. This isn't a torrent site, nor is it a site that discusses illegal torrents. There are PLENTY of outlets for that. What you're doing is posting that stuff thinking people will believe it's cool that you discovered µTorrent. Does he really think it's cool or that it somehow gives him more credibility as a poster? I highly doubt that. He's just sharing information, just like guys might at the relationship or "cologne/perfume/scent" threads. I'm not sure where your disagreement is...on the "illegal" side of downloading or that he's "hyping" the idea of it, or what, exactly. That's definitely a philosophical argument that's worth having, if we want to have it. I just know that any option I have (besides waiting for June when I go back to the US) is going to put money into the hands of Chinese websites (they charge money to show movies that have been copied at youku, tudou, funshion, soku.com, etc.) or those selling the pirated DVD versions on the streets.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) You're missing the point, though. His posting that they're "available" makes no difference in your world. Did you even read anything above? Sure it does. I read it here and then know to look for it before they take it down or it disappears.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) He's not the perfect 4th outfielder, particularly given his issues with "keeping focused" that we saw last year. We have a pretty darn ideal one in Jordan Danks. De Aza is a solid 3rd/corner OF on a team that needs one and has other guys who carry most of the load. Like the Cardinals, although that ship has sailed with Bourjos now likely in CF. Of course, Holliday and probably Craig would be on the corners, so there's the additional issue of forcing him into CF, where he doesn't belong. He should be in left. The Pirates would have made sense last year, but not now.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) caulfield, is this going to be your winter Puig? No. Actually I was a bit shocked when yahoo.com (at least when I pulled it up here in China) had it as the 3rd or 4th story down...the one that I originally posted. If it's true, it's definitely going to force not only Packers' fans but also sports fans in general who think the best players (maybe the best NFL football player today) must all fit the stereotypical hetero/macho/tough (think Joseph Gordon Levitt in Don John) to finally countenance the idea of a QB/team leader being gay. Progress.

I'm not sure about it being "cool" or whatever, but it's helpful to those of us living outside of the US, because there's basically an embargo against American movies to protect the Chinese box office through the entire month of December and on into January. For example, I don't think the Hobbit even has a release date here yet, or maybe it's not going to come out until sometime in February, when Spring Festival/Chinese New Year's is going on and most families are staying home at that time. I'll never forget the time they had Batman and Spiderman come out the same weekend last year...it made zero sense. Except for China. Or they played Django Unchained for 2 or 3 days and then pulled it entirely. They block out Facebook, Twitter and youtube (partly about controlling information, partly about protecting Chinese sites competing with them)...and yet curiously allow Hunger Games (which got crushed by Gravity, actually). China only allows 34 movies per year (20 in 2D, an additional 14 in 3D format now) from the US, and it used to be only 20 as recently as a couple of years ago. All of them are big budget action movies or counter-programming like Titanic 3D. There are some anomalies. Cloud Atlas, Escape Plan and Pacific Rim all did much better here than in their American theatrical runs. At any rate, there's no way I would be able to see movies like American Hustle, Saving Mr. Banks, Out of the Furnace, The Hobbit, Nebraska, The Way Way Back, Fruitvale, 12 Years a Slave, etc., without the internet. Even trying to find illegal or bootleg copies on the street, some of those movies are impossible to find, and the money's not going to the studios in those cases anyway. Even when I do watch American movies here, only about 20-25% of the profits are going back Stateside.

OK, so is Aaron Rodgers gay? Right now the proof is pretty flimsy. Rodgers and Lanflisi are close friends but there is no proof that they had a romantic relationship. There is also no proof that Rodgers was one of the players who was planning on coming out last summer. Aaron Rodgers isn’t married at the moment but he has reportedly been dating Destiny Newton. Engagement rumors circulated about the two last year but Rodgers never confirmed the news. So here’s what we know about Aaron Rodgers. He’s 30-years-old. He plays for the Green Bay Packers. He will make his return to the field today against the Chicago Bears. He has a friend named Kevin Lanflisi. Some people think that Kevin is Aaron Rodger’s ex-boyfriend. Some people think that he’s just a friend. Basically, this rumor is still just a rumor. [image Via The Fame Driven] socialdailynews.com
