  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) If this was Natstalk.com you would have been crying for days the Nats should have either traded or never drafted Strasburg when he went down. No, not really. Tommy John surgery has been perfected to the point where it consistently brings back pitchers these days at better than 100% (Liriano is one of the few exceptions). The only problem is that we've already wasted 3+ years of Sale before he could ever become a starter. And at least I'm not crying about Greg Walker no longer being the hitting coach. Adam Dunn's thankful for that, I'm sure.
  2. Breaks the string of poor results in Detroit. We're now 3-11 in our last 14 at Comerica. Tigers were 77-0 last year when leading after 7 innings, this year they've ALREADY lost 5 games. Doubt they continue that pace and lose 27 for the entire season, but that's a difference most of us expected with Valverde being 49/49 last year in saves converted. And Floyd, ever since we acquired him, has been best against the Tigers of all AL teams.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:57 PM) I remember when Stults shut us down with the Dodgers in 05. I guess anything's possible on a given day in baseball, and the Tigers/Indians are more LH dominated than most, but I'm certainly not going to go out and bet on a win in that game, either.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) Sale and Reed could be the anchors for the best bullpen in baseball for years. Just remember that when Axelrod and Stults are pitching the next two days, lol. And one forgets that Nathan Jones had an important scoreless inning of work there.
  5. That wasn't dramatic enough!!! Now for once this season, do something right White Sox. Name Reed the closer and send Santiago to the minors. He simply has to work on getting those fastballs down in the zone, and work on his location/command and offspeed stuff. And while they're at it, put Lillibridge at 3B. Or Kuhn. Or anyone but Morel/Escobar.
  6. The question is WHAT is happening, lol? Reed finally wins the closer job by retiring Jackson. Hope so. That means we can move Santiago to starter in Charlotte and trade Thornton.
  7. All of those fastballs are above the belt, exactly where you don't want to throw them unless you're trying to give up a home run, lol. Lucky he didn't get it elevated. Ventura going to bring in Reed against Jackson. Last time Reed was brought into this situation, he gave up a hit (runner on 2nd and 2 outs). This is putting even MORE pressure on Reed. Either Reed's your closer or he's not. Not fair to not let him earn it by starting the inning.
  8. LHB'ers 6/14 this year against Santiago. Addison Reed warming up, lol. So that's 8 innings, 4 HR's, 12 hits, 4 walks....the only thing he's done well is pile up K's.
  9. Manto Power Tigers were 77-0 in games they led after 7 innings last year. Already have lost 4 this year, today would be 5. Tigers have also won 11 of their last 13 games against the Sox at Comerica. Santiago AND Thornton warming for Avila.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Put Beckham back at the 3B spot and call up the minor league secondbaseman or pur Lilllbridge there or put Lilli at 3B Better to use Lillibridge or Kuhn there than move Beckham.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) You would play Conor Jackson at 3rd? Lol, ok. Honestly, I'd probably pick Kuhn, although he's completely cooled off the last month. Jackson or McPherson have absolutely nothing to do with the future, so no point in watching them fail and then releasing them. And Tyler's upside is a BIT higher than Escobar's, although not by much.
  12. Jones wasn't even fully warmed up and ready to go into the game. What the heck is going on with this team?
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) Who else was he suppose to bench Morel for? Is Robin going to bat? Send BOTH of those guys to Charlotte if Morel is THAT bad. Might as well play Dallas McPherson or Conor Jackson. Seems that Morel's shaky confidence has already been destroyed, regardless. And we can no longer call Fukudome the best bargain of the off-season.
  14. You've got to be kidding me!!!! If Brent Morel is really our 3B of the future, you don't PH Eduardo Escobar for him. You might as well send him to Charlotte tomorrow, because Eduardo Escobar's minor league OPS wasn't even in the same zip code as Andy Gonzalez. If it's Dan Johnson, fine. I can live with that, just to keep our team somewhat competitive this year. Escobar has even LESS of a chance than Morel, sad to say. Heck, Esteban Beltre was an offensive force compared to him.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) Yet you're crying that Peavy will be gone after this season. Pick a side and stay there. The way you flip flop, you should change your screen name to Mitt Romney. Nope, only that we didn't see this version of Jake Peavy when we really needed him, in 2010 and 2011. I did have a side for months and months and months. I was willing to wait and be optimistic about Williams. No more. Just like with politicians, changing circumstances cause one to change one's perspective. Continuing the same approach, whether it's the war in Afghanistan or solving the nation's economics problems, will end up in a President losing re-election. Just like voters care more about the economy, unemployment, their futures and gas prices, White Sox fans no longer care about what KW did in 2005. They don't care that George Bush is largely responsible for the economic conditions Obama inherited. That's life.
  16. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:59 PM) Rios average continuing to take a nose-dive down below .280. 5 for his last 36. He's been a carbon-copy of last season the last 9 games. We only got about 25% of the team's estimated value, or 15% of a billion dollars, tied up with Peavy, Danks, Rios and Dunn.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) I don't care what his "return" would have been 48 hours ago. The Sox should keep good young cheap players if they want to be good. I suppose you think the Bulls should have traded Michael Jordan and was pissed off they didn't before he broke his foot. You probably also think the Sox should have traded Frank Thomas after he won back to back MVPs when he value was never higher. Chances are the Sox aren't going to win the WS again in any of the players' they have in the organization careers, but they might, so it shouldn't stop them from trying. Comparing Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen and Chris Sale is beyond ridiculous. When he was drafted, the majority of scouting reports had him as a reliever. Other than Dennis Eckersley, Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffmann and a few others, nobody is going to put up a poster in their room of a major league closer. You hold onto young starting pitching and young position impact players, especially at C/SS/2B/CF. Anyone who knows talent can see you build a team around a Bryce Harper/Strasburg and that Chris Sale is a complementary piece to a playoff team to put them over the top. But you don't trade 3-5 young Top 10 prospects for a Chris Sale. You'd be lucky to get just one at this point. Chances are the Sox aren't going to win the WS again in any of the players' they have in the organization careers, but they might, so it shouldn't stop them from trying. I wouldn't care so much if I wasn't a White Sox fan. I wouldn't ever want the organization to stop trying, just not with THIS particular GM.
  18. 8 of our 9 strikeouts today have come while swinging. There's that. We're not watching so many called 3rd strikes go by as usual.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) One bad inning where he got dinked. Don't buy into the doom and gloom, this is a competitive Sox team that will be in contention this season. You're joking, right? Why?
  20. Konerko is the man. But solo homers... And Gavin Floyd is increasing his value for an upcoming trade. Nothing else. Although I really would love to see who Ventura would go with to close a game out today. Somehow I have a feeling it wouldn't be Reed.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) I can think of a ton of teams that would love to have Sale. And they'll give up what exactly in return? Nothing like what the return would have been 48 hours ago. It's not unlike waiting too long to trade Jenks and Crede. Now the point of getting something of value that's not at least 2-3 years away in the low minors is gone for good.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) Not really. The Sox traded for him when he was healthy using the same players as bait. That's when he said no. And then KW's stubborn-ness/he has to get his man eventually act kicked in. We did still have a chance to compete at that point (maybe 20-25%), but it would have made a much more dramatic difference to pick up Peavy 1 1/2 months earlier in the season, not to mention the disaster to the clubhouse morale of flopping Rios for Jermaine Dye and keeping JD on the roster.
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 5, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) This. I think if we trade for a good young bat we can compete though. s***, maybe 2-3 or 4 bats. This lineup as is will not effectively grind down any pitchers all year. It will grind down the fans' patience, though. We've already seen this tired act for 3+ years now, the main difference is we could additonally watch Carlos Quentin jack another 30 randomly-timed homers out.
  24. And the mental mistakes continue. Another reminder why we need Baines as a 1B coach, lol. Scherzer is notorious for not having a very good pick-up move. Beckham the other night, DeAza getting picked off...the wheels are completely coming off at this point. Just wait for Axelrod against Cabrera/Fielder/Avila and Stults against a highly-underrated Indians' line-up. There will be many "it's always darkest before the dawn" comments coming.
