  1. Dadgummit. Now the Tigers have all the momentum back for a 9th inning rally again. Crap. Lilly was never a particularly SMART baserunner in the Jose Valentin/AJ mold. Lots of silly, careless errors out there mentally. Still continuing as a trend, it seems.
  2. Looks like the same Tigers team that couldn't beat the Indians at all the first three series or so of the season.
  3. LOL at Coke running in like Usain Bolt/Yohan Blake.
  4. YAY. Lillibridge. Strange season when he's making plays to help us down the stretch...at a position he might be a legit candidate to play on the Sox if we can't bring YOUK back. I guess not unlike Jayson Nix. So you'll see Sipp against Fielder, then Smith for final 2 outs, one would guess.
  5. Crowd seems really dead or maybe they're just anxious/freaking out because the same type of thing happened last time they were in first?
  6. Rogers was just given away by the Rockies, 8+ ERA this year, for cash considerations...but has been great with Indians, SO FAR.
  7. I would guess you mean Mario Impemba or Rod Allen, probably Mario. He actually did the minor league games for my hometown Quad City River Bandits to earn his stripes...worked his way up. This is going to be the key inning for CLE, heart of the line-up will be up against Pestano. Great pitching from Indians so far. Esmiel Rogers for CLE? I'm guessing Perez is out?
  8. DET announcers complaining about Sanchez' performance with them this year....leaving way too many balls up in the zone, control/command, etc.
  9. Fathom will also be calling his agent...and asking for a cameo appearance with Minka Kelly and/or Derek Jeter. GREG: Just win, baby!!! Ozzie Guillen, DeWeezy and anyone from the 2005 team rock! Bring back Mark Buehrle and Bill Self! Applebee's is better than Chili's and TGIF's combined. Parking prices suck! White Sox can't beat the Royals!
  10. It's too early to start writing epilogues on the season, but we should all be proud of how they've fought so hard and been so resilient all season long in the face of adversity. Yes, some will say no moral victories, we're choking, KW should be fired, the whole roster should be blown up in the offseason, etc., but it's still amazing they've come so far with all the injuries and the terribly young and inconsistent bullpen. Crain and Thornton were the two most important veteran pieces down there and they've both been pretty big disappointments this season. Other than Gordon Beckham, Morel and those bitter about Viciedo not making the All-Star team and being Top 10 in the MVP race, it's been a fun year to follow, and the White Sox haven't given up in the face of similar situations, like the previous sweep. Peavy, Dunn and Rios all rebounded from near-death experiences in terms of their career arcs, and Jose Quintana has been one of the more pleasant stories of the entire season. Picking up YOUK, Myers and Liriano at least gave us a fighting chance these last 30 games. We still have the easiest schedule in the American League, but we're going to have to beat the Royals and yes, the Tigers AT HOME, to win this thing. Whenever you think all hope is lost, just remember the last 2-3 weeks of the 2008 season, when we were in a similar situation vis a vis a similarly dominant historical foe, the Twins. All hope is not YET lost.
  11. Liriano's ERA with the Sox is 4.54. Nothing great, but he's still improved on his season averages with the Twins since joining us. Better than regressing, like Greinke did for awhile. Of course, many would now argue the Angels' chances for the post-season are about the same as the Sox.
  12. I would make a comment, but then this thread would end up in Filibuster.
  13. In all fairness, winning percentage doesn't mean much at all in the minors. It's all about development and ability/tools. Bristol had a terrible record but two of our Top 10 prospects in Hawkins and Barnum. Especially at the AA and AAA level, you can have a winning team but almost zero prospects. That's not the case with the White Sox, but the best minor league winning percentage overall (all teams) could still end up being a Bottom 5 or Bottom 10 team in terms of projectable and impact minor league talent.
  14. Just send this thread to archive ASAP.
  15. 9/10 losses on the road, 6 or 7 in a row by DET over the Sox, 3-18 at Comerica....pretty obvious to Las Vegas, without Verlander going against a fading Sale.
  16. When all is said and done, were the Sox to not make the playoffs, it would still be the better team won and Sale/Quintana wore down...many nagging injuries, etc. Detroit has just dominated us. There's no way around it. We can't pat ourselves on the back and say we have more talent. And we can't come up with a hit with RISP when we were leading the majors in that category coming into this series. It has been a playoff-like series in terms of intensity, and we gave away Friday's game and then proceeded to go and get dominated by two dominant pitchers in Scherzer and Verlander. (Who we'll see again SOON). Nothing you can really say about it. It is what it is. Not even really mad or upset, what did we realistically expect after losing the first two games??
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) Yet there is still no point in calling for some of the crap some people on here will. There is still 29 games to go. I still laugh at some people on here( I know who you are) that were calling for a 5-10 year rebuild. There's nobody left to trade. They would be pretty foolish to keep Floyd around for $9.5 million next year. Thornton and Crain will get you what exactly? The only asset we have to trade is probably Alexei Ramirez...and that's a dubious move at best unless it nets us Jurickson Profar in return, which will never happen. I suppose they could deal Rios or Dunn, but how would they sell any season tickets for next year...trading Dunn or Rios, letting Floyd go, trading Thornton/Crain, letting YOUK, AJ and Peavy all walk. Good luck on that one, Brooks. Which is why it's not within the realm of possibility of transpiring. Somehow, marketing 2013 as the "Return of John Danks" isn't going to inspire much confidence in the fanbase.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) The rest of this game figures to be one big party in Detroit. How quickly things change. Everybody in Motown hated that team after the KC series. Now they'll be WS contenders in the eyes of their people. And why shouldn't they be? Jackson, Fielder, Cabrera, Verlander and Scherzer alone can carry that team... When they get contributions from their complementary players, they're just so tough to beat. Nearly impossible for the Sox to take out in Detroit.
  19. 9 losses in their last 10 road games. 7 in a row for Detroit over the SOX. 3-18 in last 21 in DET. It's not like the Twins' back in the day. The Tigers are just better than us...but they underachieve enough against other teams that they kept us in first place for most of the season before turning it on again at the end of the season.
  20. One breaking pitch too many there. Delmon Young is the hero of two out of the 3 games. Back to square one. 29 games to go.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 08:49 PM) How many homers do the Sox have against Detroit in Detroit this year? I'm assuming hardly any. DeAza has at least 2.
  22. At least the Sox showed up tonight and weren't embarassed completely, but this game's still going to be a b**** to win.
  23. Konerko finally got a fastball over the plate to drive.
  24. Attaboy, T-FLOW. Nice approach on that curve, and then good patience to lay off the breaking pitch.
