Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
James McCann 2020 "The talent is off the charts,” catcher James McCann said, the day after Vaughn hit his first spring homer. “You see that in his work on a daily basis. You see that just in the way he swings the bat in the cage. You don’t need to see the ball jump off his bat. But he is one of the first guys in the cage every morning. He is one of the first guys in the clubhouse every morning. He gets his work in and he keeps his mouth quiet. That’s what is impressive to me, the way he goes about his business.” McCann reinforced that point in a short conversation with Vaughn on Saturday morning. “‘I just want to let you know it is not going unnoticed the way you go about your business,’” McCann said he told Vaughn. “‘Keep doing what you are doing. I know myself as well as other players notice the way you do things. There are people that make decisions above our pay grade that notice the way you go about your business. “Keep doing you.” mlb.com

5/5 - Sox @ Royals, 6:40 CDT start time
Well, Ragans immediately put all doubts out of mind. Yes, the White Sox are not a good big league team. But they are a big league team and have legitimate professional athletes. They managed to foul off a bunch of pitches—like, a bunch bunch of pitches—but that’s all they were able to do. Put it this way: Ragans faced 20 batters. He struck 11 of them out, which is good for for a 55% strikeout rate. Dominant. There wasn’t even a lot of trouble that Ragans ran into. He faced runners in scoring position twice. The first time was the very first frame of the game, where White Sox shortstop and Final Fantasy villain Chase Meidroth singled and stole second base. In the fourth inning, Andrew Vaughn doubled and then advanced to third on a groundout. In both cases, Ragans closed the threat by striking out the next batter. royalsreview.com https://www.royalsreview.com/2025/5/5/24424525/cole-ragans-and-the-pitching-staff-dominates-as-royals-win-3-0-shutout-over-white-sox Chase Sephiroth FF Villain

*The White Sox went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Luis Robert Jr. took a Ragans changeup at the knees to strand a Meidroth leadoff single in the first, and Andrew Vaughn's one-out double in the fifth--the team's only extra-base hit--went by the boards *A day after recording his fifth multi-hit game of his young career, Quero had his first multi-strikeout performance, striking out his first three times up in an 0-for-4 performance. The one time he made contact was a soft flare lofted just high enough to first that Miguel Vargas was deluded into thinking it would get over Vinnie Pasquantino's head, and was doubled off. *García led off the Royals' sixth with a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball, stole third and...ran into a TOOTBLAN when he gravely misjudged how far Matt Thaiss' throw caromed away from Vargas. See? Other teams do it too. García got his revenge by stealing second and scoring in the eighth, one of four Royals stolen bases on the night. *The Sox haven't won in Kauffman Stadium since Sept. 12, 2023. Dylan Cease was the winning pitcher. James Fegan, soxmachine.com

Resilient White Sox/AL Central Attendance, somehow up 1.8% YoY for first 21 home dates
Through 21 home games 2024 291,072=16,171 per game + 52819=343,891 (16,376 per game) 2025 289,872=16,104 per game +60061=349,933 (16,633 per game) 1.8% attendance increase through 21 home games That's a little bit skewed because the next 2024 attendance mark is 26,152 for a SAT game we lost to Triston McKenzie...there's also a DH that avoided one day's low/er attendance (KC Royals WED April 17th, barely 10,000 in attendance)

White Sox to get Montgomery back to Charlotte (late) next week, still eyeing majors (Janish)
You're making a pretty BIG assumption that he can hit over .200, though... You're also assuming Montgomery will be a solid/above average defender at 3B (with a bad back, see Joe Crede post 2008). That would put this theoretical Colson Montgomery among the Top 9 current 3B in MLB. I just multipled by 4X...technically the season is between 1/5th and 1/4th over. 1. Bregman, 7.2 2. Austin Riley, 5.6 3. Maikel Garcia, 5.2 (positive offense and defense, just slightly) 4. Chapman, 4.8 5. Paredes, 4.4, Josh Smith (way too big of an offensive profile for Montgomery) 7. Arenado, 3.6 8. Machado, 3.6 (-0.5 defensively, +5.5 offensively) 8.5 Colson Montgomery .220/300/400 (likelihood of a 700 mlb OPS or above average 3B defense converting from SS with a bad back???) 9. KeBryan Hayes, 2.4 (-3.8 off, 5.0 defensively, Gold Glove profile, tepid offense) 10. Miguel Vargas, 1.2 (-2.6, 1.2 defensively) 10. Jose Ramirez 1.2 (1.4, -3.4 defensively) https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=3b&qual=100 Javier Baez is headed for a 4.0 fWAR, but he's mostly playing OUTFIELD/CF right now...

5/5 Game
If he goes 0 for the ACL and they still send him back on to Charlotte...well, it's just going to put even more pressure/scrutiny on Colson. Obviously BIRM would seem even more like a demotion, but it is what it is at this point.

This is the owner we have.....
When Kwan becomes a FA, doubt that Getz is even still around to sign someone who reminds him of himself. By then, someone inside the organization will have recognized that POWER is actually important...AND speed as well. But teams don't tend to pay up for speed.

Ramos hasn't been doing all that much to impress, either. Regardless, you have to try to switch out Palacios and/or Amaya for Gray, Julks or Elko just to try something new or different. Either one of those guys can be DFA'ed off the roster without either being claimed in order to put Julks back on again.

Bogaerts had a (previously) consistent 800-825 OPS record, but the biggest hesitation there should have been that he was no longer really an everyday SS in terms of fielding metrics, and you can't give out contracts like the Padres did for a 2B who now looks a lot closer to a 700-750 OPS hitter than in his prime with the Red Sox.. They ended up blocking the much cheaper/younger Jackson Merrill as a result, tying up tons of future money in years where he will be another version of Albert Pujols or Miguel Cabrera at his current rate of injuries. Fault lies with Preller getting desperate to add another premium FA when it became apparent Judge was never going to leave for SF or SD. Unforced error.
