  1. Valverde has thrown all of 4 pitches in 5 minutes. Who's slower, him or Betancourt? Jesus of Nazareth. Great, when we need Rios to strike out, he fouls off the ball and prevents Lillibridge from getting to 2nd on the easy steal.
  2. MLB.com has had Jackson at 95-97 all day long. I've heard a few readings of 98, but DET jacked up their gun when Zumaya pitched there....and now with Verlander.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) While it was a great play, it wasn't that great. Most MLB SS should be able to make that play. So E-Jax has his best start, do we trade while he comes off his best start? Nope, KW is all-in, no choice but to roll the dice. His quote will be "this is exactly why we acquired Edwin Jackson, for key 2nd half games against our divisional rivals, blah, blah, blah..." We still don't know how Peavy's going to rebound in the 2nd half. If Peavy went out and threw 3 shutouts featuring 93-96 MPH fastballs....three games in a row...then you can argue that at that point you leverage Jackson for whatever you can get. His ERA is now exactly at 4.00 and will fall below it if he can get through the 9th.
  4. Why was Morel so far out of position there? At least he was smart enough to pull the glove back and let the ball get to Ramirez instead of deflecting it away and leaving two runners on.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) The second half is giving me a new attitude as a fan (til we lose a game). This could be the new, efficient White Sox. 2-0 with Edwin looking good. BTW, if you want to PM me with the answer I'd take it under consideration. Qwerty said I am the sole reason Soxtalk sucks now. If u agree let me know why or tell me you would prefer I leave forever. Greg, relax. Just fewer posts with the same theme/topic probably, or keeping it one thread?....compose one longer post with all your thoughts, and leave it at that, maybe? Of course, if you write a long post, you run the danger of writing one that's too long like I usually do, lol. It's a fine line.
  6. The teams are combining to go 1 for 12 with RISP. Good pitching performances on both sides, but some bad luck with Sox runners at 3rd keeping the Tigers right in this game.
  7. Well, Gordon's fought to get his average all the way back to .249. Wish Dunn could just get to .199, wonder what abysmally-low average he'll end up with? Jackson with an amazing (for him) 79 pitches through 7 innings. Does Guillen pull him against V-Mart if Ordonez/Cabrera reach?? Don't like to face him from the left-hand side if you can turn him around.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) I don't have the game on TV here. Is Jackson working faster? His pitch count is definitely way down. Great performance by Jackson today when the offense is 1 for 7 with RISP behind him.
  9. Well, if Jackson wins this game, he's definitely earned it. Hard to pitch under pressure like this the entire game. Should be at least 4-0, maybe 5-0.
  10. Shouldn't the coach shout "GO!" at the moment of the catch? According to Farmer, Beckham didn't leave early. Wrong call. They watched the replay a bunch of times. Umpire was also out of position, had the wrong angle there. You have to be in line with 3B looking to the OF. You can't look back, can't just guess or speculate.
  11. Dammit, Beckham left too early. Crap. Son a b----. That sucks.
  12. Looks like Morel has lost his job for now. They should just bring up DeAza and add to the outfield mix...let Morel play everyday in Charlotte.
  13. By my count, we're 1 for 6 with RISP. But that one with Alexei/Pierre last inning hurt. I guess it's "even" because you almost expected Guillen to drive in those 2 runs last half inning. Jackson has stranded quite a few runners as well. Another sellout, 40,000+. I really hope they don't get Jose Reyes and move Peralta back to 3B. It might cause KW to make a desperation countermove. The only question is whether they have the minor league pieces to get it done. Jacob Turner?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) No low fastballs to Guillen here. Or no fastballs at all...even though that first slider was a ball and a hanger, it got his timing off the FB.
  15. Konerko did a great job with the bad hop. Great to see Jackson finally earning his paycheck against a dangerous line-up in our division.
  16. Ramirez has to get rid of that ball faster. Needs to catch and throw in one smooth motion...
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) Or Mark Kotsay. Or Luis Terrero. Or Brian Anderson. Or a gorilla. Luis Terrero actually hit fairly decently for us that one year. Showed a bit of pop, his average wasn't anywhere close to below 200, I remember that much. Now Julio Ramirez might be a better comparison. Or Brian Simmons.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) 1 for 15 for the 2nd half boys so far? Yet somehow Dunn has 15 more RBI's than Rios. That 2 RBI single off Verlander last night was the key to the game....and his last homer should have keyed a Sox comeback victory but we frittered it away. Rios hasn't done ANYTHING to help us win a game in weeks.
  19. Dunn should be in the 150's now. Good God, that's hard to do. Even for Rob Deer or Dave Kingman.
  20. It's pretty amazing when you think if we hadn't played the Indians this season yet, we'd be 5-15 against the AL Central. Still, we're right there in the thick of things, despite everything's that gone wrong.
  21. Wow, Alexei has really struggled with those runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs. Pierre froze...thought the pitcher was going to snag it and then it was too late to go. Peralta was going to 1B the whole time. Dammit. That third run would have looked mighty nice on the scoreboard. Oh well, let's get 'em, Edwin.
  22. You're not going to get Michael Young for Alex Rios. Not unless you include a significant sweetener to that deal going to the Rangers. Pierre getting quite lucky. Would have been out by a mile with the bad jump but Avila couldn't handle it. 15 SB's.
  23. Because we'd be wasting $43 million dollars, and JR/KW will never admit defeat on that big a contract. They definitely should try ANYTHING different. Lillibridge against lefties, DeAza/Milledge/Danks, just DO something. As long as that something's not overpaying for Beltran with Viciedo. In retrospect, you can say that Ozzie deserves some credit for sticking by Pierre. But this thing with Rios is just illogical. And hitting Dunn 3rd/4th against LHP.
  24. 2-3 years ago, it looked like Peralta's major league career was nearly over. Horrible defense and not enough power, too many K's with the Indians. Good thing there are 2 outs. Why is Peralta not at third? Peralta just jogged to 2B. Jackson's taking a page from the Verlander book. Getting beat on change-ups and sliders but really popping the fastball now, got up to 97. If he gets that ERA back under 4.00, his value goes up quite a bit psychologically...especially if you look at his other peripherals.
