  1. Same overall feeling about SUPER 8. Well, there's always The Tree of Life or Midnight in Paris. I wonder when we'll reach the saturation point with all these superhero movies with Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America, The Avengers, etc., all coming out so close together? Harry Potter and Transformers 3 better not disappoint or this entire year will be considered one of the biggest disasters in the last 15-20 years.
  2. Finally saw "Win Win" last night, excellent film, and great work by Giamatti and his adopted wrestler son. It always makes me think of his father and Pete Rose whenever I see him on screen! I've totally run out of movies to see these days...I actually watched "I am Number Four" (interesting premise but horrible special effects, amazing considering Bay was the producer) and "Beastly." I even sat through "Something Borrowed" because I'm a Ginnifer Goodwin fan (Kate Hudson might be in my all-time bottom 5 though). After going through all the NCIS season 8 episodes, I'm at a total loss.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) I'm rather pleased with myself that I could figure that one out on the fly. JPCASMFDAW. It's not another "Juan Pierre Caught Stealing Merits Fielders' Delight" acronym? They're all over the Net these days.
  4. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20483133_20483446,00.html Super 8 getting a rave review from one of the most influential critics out there....can't wait to see it tmrw. Hopefully Juan Pierre will be magically abducted by aliens and two birds can be killed with the same entertainment dollar.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) I would look online to see if Dave Wilder is his agent. I think you're onto something. Follow the money trail. Maybe it's KWJR or the Guillen clan who is now representing him? Can't wait for KWJR to join the White Sox F.O. as an intern two years from now. Must drive Hahn crazy.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) Could I send Scotty's wife to myself to distract me from these woes? I ran out of choices at Number 10. #11 Be stapled in the cheeks at least 100 times by the red "Office Space" stapler every time Pierre is caught stealing, hits a soft liner caught by the LFer or weakly grounds out. Maybe inflicting that pain on KW or OG would get them to change their minds. #12 Surreptitiously plant a nest of 100,000 rare North African scorpions in LF before the game #13 Have Fred Durst, LeAnne Rimes or Josh Groban sing the National Anthem every White Sox home game until Pierre is gone
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) He sucks. I don't care how nice or how much of an ass someone is...as long as they help the Sox win. Pierre's had an absolutely brutal season this year. I would rather have our current heart of the line-up be Wil Cordero, D'Angelo Jimenez, Julio Ramirez, Albert Belle and Magneto.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) I've really grown to dislike Pierre. At this rate, I'd rather Have Piers Morgan play LF. I'd rather have Joe (either former Reds/Giants/Stros star or the former manager) Morgan, Nyjer Morgan, Mike Morgan or Erin Moran from Happy Days. Heck, just for hotness factor, Josie Maran too.
  9. Let's start a spirited debate about our various options of protest...
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) Ha, I'm just bad at geography I guess. I was talking about the players available during the usual contract period with the DR, Venezuela, etc. Apparently, Jerry Krause got lost somewhere between Mexico and Venezuela. Rescue him, somebody!!!! At the very least, a BOLO or APB.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Ya, that includes Cuba. I assumed that was included in "Latin America"? If you take away Viciedo's initial contract, who exactly are you referring to? Rienzo? Clevelan Santeliz? Infante? I hope it's not still a reference to Juan Silverio. How much did we sign Escobar for?
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) There's no way that's accurate unless you're considering Cuba (which you know I wasn't referring to). I think he must mean bribes to buscones AND/OR highest budget on Brazilian players!!! Everyone knows Brazil is the future. I'm still looking for some more Indian and Chinese players to be signed soon.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) We draft terribly, we develop terribly, and spend nothing on Latin American players (even though most of them LOVE Ozzie). It's scary looking a few years into the future, but hopefully the new General Manager will have a better plan for running an organization. Or we just get them past our entire minor league staff by claiming them from other teams and pairing them with Cooper right away...see Jenks and Santos. It's ridiculous that they're benching Dunn and Rios when they won't do the same thing with a player who won't even be back in 2012 and makes less money.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) It was extremely uninspiring. I have no idea what our scouting department is doing. It was like someone dared them that they could draft 30 players without taking a high schooler. So now not only do we avoid Boras clients, but we don't draft high school players? I'm starting to think it's carryover from drafting Ventura, Thomas, McDowell and Alex Fernandez. Seriously, it's almost like they're afraid to have to develop any young players themselves (Ryan Sweeney is one of the few exceptions that come to mind) so they just want to take the lower-risk, lower-reward players that are already 20-23 years old. I guess Trayce Thompson counts for something. 1) No high school players (because then you'd have to compete with universities to sign them) 2) Obscure/raw/athletic/potential African-American outfielders (not named Jordan Danks) 3) No signings from anywhere in Latin America, which is basically 30-35% of the world talent lode now 4) No Boras clients 5) Only crony/nepotism picks of players related to the White Sox F.O. or coaching staff (this might be the 2nd biggest scandal after the Wilder fiasco)
  15. This season just sucks. We're not really contending, and there's no way to really even begin to rebuild our team even if you trade Danks or Jackson. I suppose that KW could do something really crazy and trade Quentin, but that's just not happening.
  16. Best candidate to "Tonya Harding" so we can DL them and collect insurance money for rest of 2011.... 1) Juan Pierre 2) Adam Dunn 3) Alex Rios 4) Jake Peavy (ooops, already on DL) 5) Mark Teahen
  17. Get Santos out of there. Don't leave him in like you did against the Dodgers. To hell with Pierre....just bench him and play Lillibridge everyday. No way in hell he doesn't make that play. I think Juan has cost us at least 3-4 games this season defensively.
  18. Of course, the leadoff double. Play should have been made by Pierre when it was his ball coming in from LF and running forward.
  19. This is going to be the tough inning for Santos. Can't give up any cookies to Smoak or Olivo.
  20. Farmer rehabbing Jenks' reputation by telling everyone that Bobby sent flowers and a get-well card to Moose Skowron.
  21. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Next year's leadoff hitter here.....c'mon Elf....get 'er done That's bad because it means that 1) Rios is permantly benched in CF and his contract is wasted or 2) KW doesn't find a better replacement for Pierre that can lead off. We'll just have to wait and see. I will be surprised if Brent gets enough regular playing time to prove he can be an everyday player unless they just bench Dunn permantly, which you know Ozzie and KW simply won't do. The problem ALSO is that Viciedo simply has to be in the line-up, and unless we trade Quentin or move Viciedo AGAIN to 3B, there's just no way Lilly is the leadoff hitter next year.
  22. Quentin's OPS is all the way up to 973, closing in on 1.000 if he can get his batting average back up in the .280-.300 range. Did Rios actually get a hit? Go...Go...Go!!! Steal. Or a Lilly-Bomb. Might not want to test Olivo...and Rios just hasn't been good at stealing bags this year.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) Juan with a useless couple of games, but of course he doesn't need rest. But he's the first one to arrive at the park every game and works harder than any player in the majors!!!! I think that's 0/11 or 1/11 this series. TCQMVP...close to back.
  24. The other thing is that we've done well against Aardsma (think he's on the DL) and League in the last 2-3 seasons. Which probably means we'll go down 1-2-3 in the 9th. That 7th was encouraging, though. If Beckham completes that double play (not sure if it was possible), it's a tie game or the Sox are leading.
  25. Beckham now 16 for his last 51. Really close to having another double in this game. Let's hope this lasts for 6-8 weeks and not just 7-10 days.
