  1. Because Jose Paniagua almost blowing a game in mop-up time in 2003 (big lead against the Twins in Aug/Sept) changed the complexion of that game, the series momentum and seemingly the entire season....
  2. QUOTE (G&T @ May 3, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) There's an ultimatum every year. There was an ultimatum to Juan Pierre that lasted less than a week. An ultimatum every season about execution/fundamentals/advancing runners/bunting/scoring runners from 3rd with less than 2 outs, etc. That renewed "Ozzie/Cora boot camp" in mid-season probably stays with the team as long as any Ozzie ultimatum.
  3. The Tigers, to their credit, did have a big comeback win at home against MIN when the Twins were leading 6-1 I think...they don't ever lie down. Great defensive play by Beckham there. Butler being slower than the Molina Brothers after eating multiple 2 pound burgers doesn't hurt much, either.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 3, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Ozzie gotta be crazy, stupid or the most stubborn SOB ever, I swear. I mean ,if you insist of the lefty righty thing, thats rigid in itself but then to put Kotsay 5th against a pitcher he's never hit when you got AJ ,who despite not being an RBI machine, hit .418 against the Royals last year is idiotic. No negativism in games where we're leading please. (Just kidding...) In Ozzie and KW we trust.
  5. I'll get excited about Peavy when he does this against a real team, but the return in velocity is a huge encouragement going forward. Third place, third place. Sole possession. Only 4 1/2 GB of the Tigers for 2nd.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 3, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) Is there a good player whose initials are NT? http://www.baseballamerica.com/statistics/...T&srch=alph None in majors, there are about five in the minors. Maybe Nate Tenbrick in the Mariners' organization, who's a 3B to replace Teahen positionally and with TNT nickname.
  7. Speaking of food, I wish I could get a Chipotle here in China...or a gyro not made from cat or dog meat, lol. We only have DQ, Hagen Dazs, Baskin Robbins, KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut and Papa John's.
  8. Alexei with two balls he crushed, Beckham with 2 walks, Pierre a threat on the bases....Rios and Andruw Jones with clutch hits... But we do need TCQ, TMK and TMT (Teahen) to join the party. Or we need to trade for TNT to replace TMT to become even more explosive, a lethal combination of speed and power not seen since the days of Oklahoma and Nebraska wishbone/I-formations.
  9. Cutting and slashing like Norberto "Paco" Martin up there.....
  10. Double steal, double steal!!!! Paulie can do "shock and awe" and cause a wild throw from Kendall/Victor Martinez down into LF to score both runners.
  11. Atta boy Rios. Starting to believe in you more and more. RBI's 10 and 11 for Alex. Way to pick up TMK, who's scuffling more than industrial grade sandpaper being dragged through the Gobi Desert.
  12. THIS JUST IN.... WHITE SOX LEADING ALL OF MLB in stolen bases, 2 over Padres and 6 over the Rays. Never thought I would see this in my lifetime as a Sox fan, not since the new ballpark debuted.
  13. Announcers picking up on the fact that Beckham would almost never swing and miss a ball last year...or very very rarely. We'll go with the Mark Teahen/BB/OBP theory...taking two walks is a positive, seeing pitches better, certainly better for his confidence than striking out. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/b...nded/order/true White Sox, for the first time in my lifetime, are leading the AL in SB's in May (and two ahead of the Padres for the MLB lead). Or maybe that season, the final one in the old ballpark, we were close, that team ran a ton, too.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 3, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) Why the hell did you foul that off Juan? It was a ball and there's a very slight chance that Kendall throws out Alexei with the way he's been throwing. My god his pitch recognition is terrible. How do you hit a hanging curveball into the ground? Simple, you slap at the top half of the ball...and push it the other way w/ an inside out swing.
  15. Which bullpen is terrible? You mean the Royals? Or the Sox pen?
  16. We're now the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...sort of.
  17. The switch just seems to turn on for Ramirez the first or second week of May every year. Maybe we should just leave him in Cuba or the DR until the last week of April...next season.
  18. Royals' announcers attributing our current problems to: Low BA and low OPS Poor defense Poor BA w/ RISP Spotty bullpen They forgot spotty starting pitching. It is kind of amusing we're second in homers and first in stolen bases on May 3rd. The Vegas odds against that eventuality would have been pretty darned high.
  19. You can cancel the post-game show. Sorry, Hawk.
  20. Peavy's starting to lose a bit of velocity now....89-93 MPH this inning on his FB.
  21. Hopefully we can lead the majors in stolen bases and caught stealings. Not so smart to send AJ when Teahen isn't a HIGH contact hitter at all. Nor is he a power hitter. He's more like a bigger Willie Bloomquist without the speed or defensive skills, but more doubles and a handful of homers.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) I'd throw the Lucy-bone to Josh Kroeger. Let him have a victory lap in the majors before he retires. Sure, why the hell not? But I'd rather see if Shelby or Gartrell could catch fire. Shelby's got some nice tools, has 7 doubles already this season for the Barons.
  23. And we'd still have John Ely...KW, I hate you so much!!!!
  24. Can't we just bring up someone who's not an A-level prospect (thinking Gartrell or Shelby) and just give them Kotsay's at-bats to see what happens...? I'm sorry for offending KW to think there might be a DH out there who do better than a 518 OPS. Tears are streaming from my eyes, that I now recognize TMK can't do the job, as hard as he wants to please us.
  25. Well, Kotsay perhaps is leading the AL in either GIDP's (per at-bat) or the highest percentage of GO's to 2B by a LH hitter. That's something to build upon, I guess.
