  1. It was more of an "intellectual exercise" to show what a difficult position KW finds himself in. When you look at the list of players that other teams would actually want...well, it's not so easy to imagine trading any of them. Sure, we can dump Jackson, but that's a recipe for Lucas Harrell without a reliable Peavy. As much as many would desire it, Pierre's not going anywhere...I can't imagine what would have to happen with him this year for Viciedo or Lillibridge to take over his starting role. Then we're all conditioned to the idea that Danks isn't going to stick around....that same game KW played in 06-07 with Garland/Javy/Contreras/Garcia to force those pitchers to (hopefully) sign slightly below market contracts or find themselves dealt away.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) Bottom 7, Teahen leadoff walk, Pierre comes up, bunt on. First bunt attempt, stabbed at, popped up foul. Second bunt attempt, stabbed at, popped up higher foul, 6 inches from being caught. 2 strike pitch, popped up, fails to advance runner. 3 pitches, 2 bunt attempts, 3 popups. He set up the second walk because the pitcher relaxed...leading to the go-ahead error. Well, that's one way to think of it. Apparently Ozzie and Cora wouldn't even look at him when he came back to the dugout. Farmer on the radio was saying they should have just forced him to try to bunt again with 2 strikes.
  3. Was Crisp safe? Guess it doesn't matter. Hopefully this will help Santos for the future. Ozzie said he was "anxious" and was blaming that on his lack of experience...trying to make nearly every pitch (particularly his slider/curve) perfect...and literally trying to throw every fastball as hard as he possibly can. As we all know, every hitter can rip a 94-96 MPH fastball if they're waiting for it and ahead in the count, especially since Sergio's doesn't have a huge amount of movement. Sergio and Jackson are very similar pitchers in the sense that if they have their offspeed stuff going and can get ahead in counts, they're absolutely dominant. Just haven't seen that much recently with either of those guys compared to the first 6 or so weeks. Please Juan Pierre, if you're going to be in the line-up, at least don't ever try to bunt again unless it's for a hit.

As most people are saying about Super 8, the first half is a solid A or A- movie. The second half is a bit of a disappointment, but just the first half makes it worth watching. Have seen X-Men: First Class twice and it really stands up as an excellent film. You can argue about the questionable marketing strategies behind both, but both films should stand up pretty well at the box office over the summer due to stronger word of mouth....along with Bridesmaids.
  5. QUOTE (since56 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 08:24 AM) The post is "if you had to". I guess if you put Sale with Rios or Pierre and asked for nothing in return some one might take over the salary. I did not say the Sox should do that but you have to bundle some good or potentially good cheap player with a high useless salary to get a taker. Sale OR Jackson would be enough to unload Pierre, but Ozzie, of course, would never approve that one. The next question is whether they believe that Lillibridge 1) could stand up to everyday play and 2) whether he would be a sufficient leadoff hitter. I think it would take Danks being part of a deal to get someone to also accept Rios....unless he starts showing some XB power again. For example, the Yankees are now probably going to be in need of a starter if Colon can't recover from what will probably be chronic/season-long hamstring issues now. When is Phil Hughes coming back?
  6. Watch Rios' left shoulder as well. He has it tucked in more, it's at a closed angle compared to the past. That and the hand positioning are the two noticeable changes in his mechanics over the past 7-10 days.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) People don't forget the home runs he gave up to Cabrera and Suzuki to lose games for the team. He's been damn good otherwise, but people don't forget moments like those. Kind of like Linebrink in 2008. Seems like he must have given up 3-4-5 homers that year in tie ballgames late.
  8. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) standing O for Lilli by fans near third base after he finishes post-game interview Who'da thunk it? Danks and whoever had their victory saved in NY should chip in to buy him a new car. Take that, Torii Hunter.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Crain battled back nicely! And take it back, you guys who wanted Thornton. Crain actually did a nice job. With what has happened on the field against Oakland with Thornton and Pierre this season, maybe Ozzie was wise to keep both of them off the field and try something different. This is one Ozzie "gut instinct" call on the closer for tonight that actually worked out. Now, for once, let's get to 2 games under .500 PLEASE.
  10. Well....I guess the Lillibridge catch sort of cancels out the loss from last night. Baseball, an amazing game. Good job by Crain to come back from down in the count and man up instead of putting runners on 1st and 2nd with only 1 out.
  11. Ozzie overextended Santos, lol. Then he used an overextended Crain.
  12. Ozzie are you insane???? Should have started the inning with Thornton there. Danks must be hiding in the showers and putting in the earplugs.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) Actually play Lilly 3 days in left and three in center. Dayan four in left. No, Rios is just now starting to look like he has things figured out.
  14. Have to cross our fingers here with Thornton coming into any game against the A's. Ozzie, don't you dare put Pierre into LF and move Lillibridge to RF because I guarantee at least one ball will be hit at him. Crain against Matsui??? What? HMMMMMM.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Lol, pull the reigns back there a little. I'd offer him 2 years/$8M maybe. Why are we offering him anything? He's still under our control for at least 3 more years, right? (Laughs at the idea a couple of years ago we'd be mentioning Lillibridge and actually desiring to control his future rights). KW, that JAVY deal was STEALTH GENIUS. Lillibridge was the centerpiece, we just didn't know it at the time.
  16. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) Wow what a play, I'm falling to sleep half drunk and woke me up!!! The elf rules!!! Is J4L there quaffing down some low-grade Puerto Rican rum with you? I just tuned it to see IAMSHACK and J4L with their usual entertaining post-game antics. Where's FATHOM? I feel him lurking somewhere...waiting to pop up again in the bottom of the 9th.
  17. "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air, I never thought I could fly so high, who could it be, believe it or not it's" LILLIBRIDGE The Greatest White Sox HERO
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) What do ya know? A bunt. On the road, down one late. The correct call even tho some Sox fans explode when we do it. 1) The A's have one of the worst offenses in MLB and have to scratch to score runs 2) Half of the White Sox hitter asked to execute bunts simply aren't capable of doing it well OKAY, I PROMISE TO PICK ON LILLIBRIDGE MORE OFTEN, haha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Juan Pierre's out there, John Danks is staring right back at 1-9 Gregsie.
  19. Dadgummmmit, Greg. See, look what happens when we leave Danks in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. 11 runners left on base.....9 walks, 1 HBP, 6 hits. Not so good.
  21. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Well, NO GIVING THE F***ING RUN RIGHT BACK!! I saw your post and thought for sure Suzuki homered since the radio feed over the Internet here in the Philippines has a delay sometimes.
  22. You get the feeling that Ozzie will push Danks as far as he can into the 8th inning before he goes to a reliever. Around 100 pitches now.
  23. I guess that's pretty much the definition of a gift run. Ugh. The downside to Quentin and Paulie, those DP balls. Luckily we got bailed out by by the pitcher.
  24. Nice play by Quentin out there. Too bad Rios didn't make the play or we could have cut the runner down at 3rd or kept him from tagging. Why didn't Alex take that one? We need to take out Gonzalez this inning....because we've done ZILCH against the A's bullpen this year in tight games in late innings.
  25. Wow, there's a big surprise...score a run, we give the lead right back. There must be like a 80-85% correlation of not scoring with the bases loaded and giving up a run to the opposition in the subsequent at-bat.
