  1. Just struck out Gunnar Henderson (rehab) leading off the game. Not bad. Then you've got Mayo and Basallo...pretty stout lineup.
  2. Interesting to give the last player on the roster the most at-bats...it's either Maton or Jankowski. But I guess Venable trusts him a lot, so here we are...
  3. Was only missing Lee for Canario...unfortunately, he'd already been acquired by Pitt.
  4. That's what he would have to do...pitching 180-210 innings per season at his 2024 ratios to reach those elite production numbers. I think it's probably more realistic to argue 4 years of elite/Cy Young production and three years on the shelf with injuries to justify the deal...or a WS title. 5.5-7.0 fWAR for those four seasons.
  5. No, merely that three 7-8 fWAR seasons and the rest of the contract Crochet out for medical reasons would still technically be worth the return on investment. Obviously that's a Cy Young bar to reach though. Kind of similar to what the Red Sox faced with the Chris Sale contract. Don't think he had 21-24 fWAR for them, though. Something like 20.5.
  6. I guess it's weird to know about other teams in baseball that are currently more interesting than the Sox... Specifically, GM strategies to buy veterans on the cheap in February and March instead of jumping the market early...no guarantee that strategy will work every year, but at least it's a strategy of allocating limited resources. Just like utilizing tornado bats or finding a plethora of flexible relievers that can double as starters or openers.

  9. He signed for only $1.5 million (with a 2026 option) and came out of the KBO just like Fedde...we will see over time whether Martin Perez or Kyle Hart was the better move, as the Padres at the time of the signing didn't even have Perez money available. Same with Sheets, Gurriel, Heyward, Connor Joe and Maldonado/Elias Diaz, Jose Iglesias...all signed for White Sox money or less.
  10. https://www.mlb.com/padres/news/kyle-hart-earns-first-mlb-win-in-his-padres-debut SAN DIEGO -- No, this technically wasn’t Kyle Hart’s big league debut. The 32-year-old left-hander had previously made four appearances for the Red Sox in 2020. But, well, that was 2020. The sport looked different then, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. So while Hart had pitched in the big leagues, he never before had pitched in front of fans. He’d never before pitched in a true big league environment. Until Monday night.
  11. Don't think FNG is quite as well known (yet) with the locals in Chicago as Guggenheim in LA or The Carlyle Group in Baltimore.
  12. Why is the title Andrew? I guess it would have been better if it was Larry's son....
  13. SheetsDH 3 2 3 4 1 0 .500 1.390
  14. IF ONLY the White Sox could actually spend that $173.8 million on improving their team and/or infrastructure...but we're stuck waiting on Ishbia. And maybe that money has to be invested into a new stadium project instead.
  15. Plus Boston already has the relatively big Devers extension on the books, as well as Story and Bregman...and they still have to deal with Campbell, Anthony, Mayer, Casas (lower priority), Rafaela, Duran, Abreu, etc. A lot of young players coming up in waves, comprising their new core. I'm betting they place their biggest bets on Campbell and Anthony...not sure how much they will slow play it with the other five position players. Think they will wait and see if they get repeats from Duran and Abreu.
  16. It has been pretty remarkable how Kopech, Burger, Giolito, Crochet and Rodon all came out the other side of major injuries (or multiple injuries) and all pretty much have landed on their feet so far in terms of stabilizing their careers. Lucas seemingly was very fortunate to get that two year Boston offer... Reynaldo's on the shelf yet again for the Braves.
  17. And there's the $170-300 million question for all of baseball, JR, John Henry, etc. Reinsdorf has been betting ever since the John Danks contract that no pitcher's worth more than a 3 year guaranteed contract.
  18. So was Frank Thomas...but he had a knack for contact and could foul off pitch after pitch until he got one he wanted to drive. Or he'd flare single after single into RF if that was all the opposing pitcher would give him.
  19. And he was pretty clearly the best pitcher in baseball at the time of that contract, granted, once again...the injury concerns already creeping in. Skubal at $200 million as the reigning Cy Young and an equally hard-throwing lefty unicorn is pretty close.
  20. Well, except for the fact that Glasnow had 530 previous big league innings...and 7-8 years of an established track record, with 120 and 88 innings being his previous career highs before 134 last season.
  21. It's a fair deal based on the possibility he blows out his elbow again with the elevated velocity he throws at...
  22. Too rich for JR's blood... Kristian Campbell is likely the next contract domino to fall...Roman Anthony would be right there with him. Red Sox paying a lot of money to ex-White Sox, if you include Lucas Giolito. Do Getz, Katz, Bannister get a commission??
  23. They haven't announced Owen White as the fifth starter at Charlotte, but that's the logical move. So far, it has been Chris Rodriguez, Nastrini, Iriarte and Dunn will start tmrw.
  24. Well, obviously they value him more than giving Elko the at-bats or putting Ramos/Sosa/Vargas at 1B, if that's the standard, but it's not much of one. Producing an OPS higher than 750 or 775, however, would be a GOOD START. We can't even manage that at any position, YET. Teel or Quero are likely to be the first...or Meidroth, if you're a big believer in his OBP game.
