2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
WestEddy won't like this...9 year extension to Jackson Merrill The extension, which will guarantee Merrill $135 million, according to a source, will begin next season and run through the 2034 campaign. The deal also includes a club option for 2035. Merrill and the Padres will discuss the deal in a 9:30 a.m. PT press conference that can be streamed live on MLB.com. https://www.mlb.com/news/jackson-merrill-padres-extension Back to seven $100+ million deals Tatis Machado Bogaerts Merrill Cronenworth Darvish Musgrove (out for year with TJ) "But but but, I was told the Padres exec's didn't know how to run a team by the know-it-all's at gaslampball.com? But for real, yes this will likely be one of the best contracts in the history of MLB assuming he progresses like we think he will. $20 million a year (if he reaches max potential) for a player in his absolute prime bringing in likely $40 - $50 million + worth of value a year. Top brass masterclass."

White Sox tarp/rain and hail delay debacle makes national news...
30. Chicago White Sox (2-2) White Sox starting pitchers have yet to allow an earned run this season, with Sean Burke, Davis Martin and Jonathan Cannon shining over the weekend and Martín Pérez carrying a no-hitter into the seventh on Monday vs. Minnesota. The White Sox still managed to lose the series to the lowly Angels because their offense was so lackluster, but they put up nine runs Monday against the Twins. Overall, it’s looking like a similar recipe for struggles to what we saw a year ago — better-than-expected pitching with an ill-equipped lineup — though this roster projects to be regular levels of bad, rather than the historic ineptitude demonstrated in 2024. White Sox still 30th on the yahoo.com sports MLB Power Rankings List 1. LAD (7-0) 2. Phillies 3. Yankees 4. Padres (6-0) 5. Astros 6. Braves (0-6) 7. Rangers 8. D-Backs 9. Mets 10. Red Sox (1-4)

2024 Celebrity Death Thread
Top Gun, The Doors, Batman...Tombstone/Doc Holliday. Val Kilmer, the California-born, Juilliard-trained actor who starred in films including “Top Gun,” “The Doors,” “Tombstone” and “Batman Forever” and earned a reputation as a Hollywood bad boy, has died, the New York Times reported. He was 65. The cause of death was pneumonia, the paper said, citing his daughter Mercedes Kilmer. Kilmer was one of Hollywood’s most prominent leading men in the 1990s before numerous spats with directors and co-stars and a series of flops dented his career. Over the years, Kilmer gained a reputation as temperamental, intense, perfectionistic and sometimes egotistical. nypost.com

4/1 Sox vs. Twins 6:40PM CT
The weird thing here is that Schiffren loves to be close or at least feel close to the players...deliberately going after something that many (especially pitchers) and Bannister and Katz obviously value is a weird way to "make friends" around the ballpark. What a weird hill to die on. And Getz must be shaking his head...trying to get this organization into the 21st Century and he wants to go back to the days of Moneyball/Grady Fuson. As they say, any publicity is good publicity, and Friedman reposted comments from the White Sox broadcast, concluding, “Appreciate it. LOL.”

Benetti has to be (secretly) loving the Schiffren Debacle.

4/1 Sox vs. Twins 6:40PM CT
First Schiffren got into it with Pham. Now the pitching coordinator, lol. Just fire him and install Connor McKnight, he will be a rah rah homer type and toe the company line dutifully, but he won't ever embarrass the team on a nationwide basis every other week. And he'll get along much better than Steve Stone.

4/1 Sox vs. Twins 6:40PM CT
In reality, that creates quite a dilemma. You get rid of Amaya...there's no solid defense up the middle, but you MIGHT pick it up on the offensive side with Baldwin and/or Maton. A bunch of terrible options. Jankowski will likely go down soon to AAA to get regular at-bats for Tauchman. And the bullpen still pretty much sucks.
