You're not far off? Many many months ago I started a thread asking who the Sox had to excite the fanbase from a hitting standpoint other than Robert (and Burger at the time)...? There's SORT OF an answer now. You've got Colson Montgomery after the AFL, Braden Montgomery's debut season in the Sox system, Kyle Teel (Boston catcher), Quero and hopefully Brayan Ramos. And that Meidroth kid (2B) from the Crochet trade put up some impressive AAA numbers, but seems (at least for now) to have limited power.

The general point is that even the Fedde 2 year/$15 million contract is a fantasy right now. JR definitely won't give it to Junis as a trade/flip candidate when that would do zero to sell any tickets.

That all sounds great...but I would still rather have Gio Lopez Dunning Cease and Kopech as a starting point than that entire list. No matter how you slice it, you're still relying on Smith Schultz and Taylor to carry 75-80% of the load if you want a truly outstanding starting staff from a pure stuff standpoint. At least 1 of those 3 will not make it and the other one will likely get injured. That's just how topline pitching goes these days.

Mutual options are very rarely exercised. If a player enjoys a strong season, the club will often exercise its half of the option in the hope of retaining the player on a one-year deal. That doesn't mean it never happens. If Lorenzen was happy enough in KC and got to hit and start every five days...anything is possible. KC is a great place to raise a kid in the suburbs.

Well...what's the old adage?? Make a player first prove he doesn't have what it takes at SS before you move him off the position to 2B or CF. Force the player to remove himself from shortstop consideration by proving that he's not up to the task...otherwise, his peak value as a minor leaguer will always be higher just with that idea he COULD potentially be an MLB SS long-term. Heck, we once considered Michael Morse a legit SS candidate and Montgomery has to be more smooth/fluid/dynamic than that, right? Montgomery sticking at SS solves all kinds of problems. Unfortunately we can't hire Ron Washington to coach Colson up.

That was my idea all along. That Kim was going to be there as a veteran presence to stabilize the infield...and maybe some of the fundamentals of how to play the game as taught in Japan and Korea would rub off? That there would be upside in his contract if he performed anywhere close to his 4-6 fWAR capabilities...assuming he was going for a 1-2 year deal with his shoulder in the state it was and status uncertain coming into 2025 for a contender to rely upon. Heck, we can throw out Amaya or Baldwin or anyone for 2-3 months and it wouldn't matter in the least. I would target a 2026 trade deadline move with him, probably...obviously depending upon the contract signed, no trade clauses, options, etc. It was strictly based on the idea that Montgomery ideally ends up at 3B (and worst case, 1B) and can concentrate 100% on his offensive game, instead of worrying about his defensive flaws that would be exposed on a daily basis at the major league level for all scouts and Keith Law's to dissect. Hoffman's a fine idea as well, depending on the price. God knows we need arms across the rotation and pen.

Just because the Sox core tv product has been eroded to now hoping to give it away for free doesn't mean there's not a huge market share there for the right owner who invests efficiently and insightfully into his product. Unfortunately it's currently worth almost less than zero in the hands of JR...unless they can somehow sell enough advertising and sponsorships in future Sox seasons (and stadiums) to offset production costs. But we keep heading for Nashville King on this extended trajectory of doom crossed with Major League the movie with a lot more star power than the current White Sox.

Also depends on how big one's belief is in Marte...but seems they don't want to mess with de la Cruz at SS and of course they finally moved on from India for Singer. McLain is the key...great two years ago and mostly injured last season.

That it was a dumb signing and nearly everyone in that thread had the same concerns...Hahn simply ran out of FA's to sign and panicked on the years in order to secure him when nobody else was offering more than three...not even the Yankees. Exactly how he ended up with Dallas Keuchel when a better but more expensive pitcher in Wheeler was needed...

Except we lack any scouting or relationships in the Pacific Rim. I have spent more time in Japan during these last 2-3 years than anyone professionally associated with the White Sox. We have the same brand image with these players that we do in the Dominican. One step would be bringing Iguchi back as more than a token.

Why are you going back to his prime years with the Red Sox to evaluate him when he clearly wasn't that player any longer? 2.3 is the total fWAR for those those three prior years...or 0.7-0.8 per season. We bought him off a 2.1 fWAR anomaly...roughly a 1 fWAR to $7.5 million valuation, pretty standard except buying off a high. Not surprisingly, worth -0.6 since then in two Sox seasons as his defense has collapsed and he never had a strong arm to begin with. Which is why the White Sox are going to wait another 2-3 years to unload him unless they send prospects with or eat 60-75% of that salary.

Look at the signing thread. He was never a good move for this franchise...just like the Royals were wise to move on from him when they did. They bought at a high point and now are still looking to sell at a discount with few takers. And your main argument that he's sort of an average player is completely writing off FG evaluations??? Sounds like you and Jeremy Haber would get along great.

The problem is that almost all of his value's on the offensive side...and we know how that story goes minus steroids as players hit their 30's. A player like him or Teoscar or even Arozarena are best generated internally...then jettusoned when they get too expensive. Unless you're a team that can afford a $200+ million payroll and have the media rights deal to back it...otherwise you need to be selling out your stadium on a lightly basis like the Padres.
