  1. Why don't the White Sox go after Keston Hiura with Turang Adames Hoskins ensconced in MIL? Nothing to lose.
  2. What the heck are the Angels/Moreno going to sell their fans on for 2024 after the Ohtani debacle???
  3. The loss of Burnes puts a big dent in the Brewers’ 2024 pitching – and, thus, their overall hopes. Freddy Peralta will now slot in as the expected opening day starter. Wade Miley and Colin Rea are right behind Peralta in the rotation while Joe Ross, Robert Gasser, Aaron Ashby and potentially Hall will fight for the backend spots.
  4. We need Henry Clay, The Great Mediator...to work out this "comprise/compromise."
  5. We already got our own version of Hall from the Marlins for Burger, thanks KW!
  6. Yankees are only $100 million apart, $240 million vs. $140 million. That was the end of that discussion with Boras.
  7. Hall is arguably the headliner, but you could certainly look at it as two "co-headliners" along with the draft pick.
  8. Upset they let their GM and then manager get away, I guess. Or the Chourio deal.
  9. freely available at baseballamerica.com from front page Hall has long flashed some of the most exciting pure stuff you could ask for from a lefthanded pitcher. He has three separate pitches that grade as plus or better, headlined by a top-of-the-scale fastball that sits in the mid 90s with excellent riding life and bat-missing traits at the top of the zone. His slider is also a plus offering in the mid-to-high 80s that is a weapon in same-side matchups, and a changeup that has developed into another plus offering and is tough against righties. Control has always been the Achilles’ heel for Hall and led to significant reliever risk, but he did show improvement in this area in 2023 and posted just a 6.2% walk rate in a 19-inning big-league stint out of the bullpen. He ranked as the Orioles No. 6 overall prospect and is No. 93 on the Top 100. Joey Ortiz, SS Age: 25 Ortiz had an all-glove, light-bat profile coming out of college in 2019 when he was a fourth-round draft pick out of New Mexico State. Like many Baltimore hitters, he has improved his hitting ability within the system and is coming off a strong 2023 season where he slashed .321/.378/.507 with nine home runs and 30 doubles with Triple-A Norfolk. His bat-to-ball skills are more advanced than his power, and his game still revolves around his excellent defensive work at shortstop—he is among the best defenders in the minors and has double-plus fielding upside at a premium position—but his bat has improved enough to give him everyday regular big league upside. Ortiz ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the Orioles system. 2024 supplemental first round pick (No. 34) Teams are allowed to trade supplemental draft picks and the Brewers will get the 34th overall pick in the 2024 draft in this trade as well. The Braves recently made a similar move when they acquired the 35th overall pick in the 2022 draft in a trade that sent Drew Waters to the Royals and they used that pick to acquire current No. 3 prospect JR Ritchie. The 2024 draft is shaping up as a down year compared to the 2023 class. You can see players who rank in the 30-40 range on our recently updated draft board here. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/corbin-burnes-trade-breaking-down-every-orioles-brewers-player-involved/
  10. Relying on MS Bing here on China work computer instead of GOOGLE, lol.
  11. Burnes should be around $14.1 million for 2024. They must have been waiting for the new investment group to sign off on that one. Secondly, Cubs Cardinals Reds Pirates even more incentive to compete with Milwaukee seemingly out of contention unless Chourio is going to win RoY. https://theathletic.com/5245961/2024/02/01/mlb-trade-grades-corbin-burnes-deal/
  12. Hall, a lefthander, has a powerful four-pitch mix that is led by an elite fastball. He was used primarily as a reliever for the Orioles last year and scouts believe he could be an elite late-inning bullpen arm, but the fact that he possesses four above-average pitches leave the door still very open to chances he could start if he refines his command. Hall was ranked by Baseball America among the top 100 prospects in baseball each year from 2019-2023. Ortiz is a glove-first shortstop who made his MLB debut for Baltimore last year. Baseball America ranked him as the No. 95 prospect in the league prior to last season. Ortiz, 25, has hit .286 with a .806 OPS across four minor-league seasons. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2024/02/01/brewers-trade-corbin-burnes-to-orioles-for-prospects-dl-hall-joey-ortiz/72444318007/
  13. IF IF IF Hall can actually hold up as a starter...
  14. Kudos to Sports Guy and Rolle Tide for being right on Ortiz/Hall. Corbin Burnes obviously a FA at the end of the year with a much higher salary than Cease. Brewers fans have to be pissed after signing veteran Hawkins.
  15. Well, he’s from MD originally but that won’t go over well.

  18. Let’s not forget Colas was more highly touted a year ago than Montes. Obviously Yordan Alvarez fits anywhere…but few are ever going to hit that well as the comps fail to hold up and weaknesses eventually get exposed.
  19. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/northwestern-coach-had-time-ejection-141650838.html Never seen a free throw disparity that pronounced…
  20. Currently unemployed Tim Anderson agrees with this.
  21. Holmes is acting a little like Jason Whitlock…pure contrarian just to provoke. All the complaints and not much on the numerous possibilities.
  22. Lazaro Montes, OF, Mariners As Mariners beat writer Daniel Kramer noted last month, the 19-year-old Montes is aware of the Yordan Alvarez comparisons and embraces them. Both are hulking left-handed sluggers with solid approaches and powerful profiles that rely almost solely on their bats. A $2.5 million signing in January 2022, Montes pushed himself further onto the radar by reaching Single-A in his first stateside season and led all Minor Leaguers aged 18 or younger (min. 300 PA) with his .440 OBP, .560 slugging percentage, 1.001 OPS, .257 ISO and 17.9 percent walk rate. Montes is limited to the corner outfield spots and will need to keep driving the ball with authority, but everything is pointed in the right direction in that regard. Anti-Getz profile.
