https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-white-sox/zack-collins-new-swing-white-sox/ This is why Hostetler saying he would have taken him at 1-1 was so ridiculous…a bat first catcher with a severely flawed hit tool that held up in college with an aluminum bat but not in the majors.

“Once again, that goes back to the relationship. Covering the backyard. It’s important to us. It’s important to our fan base,” Shirley said. “This is big-time power, a big-time athlete. We feel like we are only tapping the surface of what he may become. “He goes where he goes. … We wanted to try to attack him, but we were patient, and luckily, we were able to strike a deal. It’s a huge part of the process of what the pool allocation [is], how you spend, when you choose to attack.” There were admitted Draft savings for the White Sox along the way on Day 2, featuring Rounds 3 to 10, after LSU right-handed pitcher Grant Taylorjoined Gonzalez as the team’s Day 1 selections in the second round. Chicago has a $9,072,800 Draft bonus pool, with $248,300 allotted for Wolkow in the seventh. “We cut some deals,” Shirley said. “But we didn’t sacrifice talent as we cut some deals. You have to be prepared: What is the cost? How bad does the player want to sign? “Players ask for money, as they should. … Sometimes a player just wants to sign and forego a college career. George Wolkow is ready to start his pro career, and the White Sox walked into that opportunity and are truly excited about the upside he brings to this organization.” mlb.com

What I should have written was all the repercussions of the steroids era being felt...with the HoF voting. ARod Sosa McGwire Bonds, etc.

“I’m going to enjoy this break,” Giolito told MLB.com following his final game. Adding, he’ll “Get away from the game a little bit, and then whatever happens, happens. I made it clear I want to be here.” Rumors of a possible trade have been reported, with the pitcher saying, he will “Focus on having a consistent daily routine. I can look at what writers are saying, I can look at what fans are saying away from the field. But when it comes time to go to work, I go to work and block out everything else. When it’s time to pitch, I expect myself to perform at a very high level.” https://theblast.com/510671/mlb-lucas-giolito-wife-files-for-divorce-during-all-star-week-home-run-derby/

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/mlb-star-lucas-giolito-wife-230232229.html She might have wanted to wait for that offseason $150-160 millionish FA deal? Hard to imagine he wouldn't want to get back to the West Coast and closer to his family again. White Sox players like Rodon Clevinger Kopech TA7 and now Giolito with some pretty high profile twists and turns...

Change in pitchers didn't help but no way to reach that number.

Our last pick with such awkward swing mechanics was the infamous T bar in Burger's swing.
-
Of course...Todd Helton is still a possibility, but it's a crazy stat. Rafael Palmeiro before the steroids was a surefire selection.

You're referring to Cubs' guy slated for second base...or someone else?

15. Chicago White Sox — Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Mississippi Grade: A Another player like Shaw and Teel where, regardless of spot, his selection would receive an A. Gonzalez had been talked about as a potential top-five pick before sliding all the way to No. 15. He has a well-rounded profile, with a bat that will hit for average and power and the ability to stay at shortstop. He might not have any tools that jump off the page, but he also has no major flaws, making him a very safe prospect here. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/mlb-draft-grades-2023-live-picks-results/a6nkkz2hshjegc3hg23rkefb

Carl Pohlad in Minnesota was quite similar to JR into his early 90s, but his 70 year son seems to be much more willing to open up the purse strings for guys like Correa and Buxton. Remains to be seen with Ilitch's kid in DET.

That's why the Twins' pitching coach left for LSU last year...it was basically a promotion, and it certainly was from a financial standpoint. Has done nothing since but enhance that previous reputation. Who wants to be in the AL Central?
-
Sure it does. We won't even have a premium athlete at SS. Teams like the Reds with McClain (de la Cruz) and Padres (Bogaerts and Kim vs. Tatis in RF) are so stacked they can play dominant athletes on the corners. Whereas the White Sox roster is filled with DHs and players with below average speed across the board with the singular exception of Luis Robert (and maybe Colas if he can hit well enough to hold down a position.)

Tigers and Twins putting Sox in their rearview windows...

He belongs in a Louis L'Amour Western novel...or gun shop. Has to be from TCU.
-
Leave it for the White Sox to pick the guy whose game is more suited for the steroids era than the one based on speed and athleticism, even at corner positions now.
-
Elly de la Cruz...ONeil Cruz, and Tatis Jr., say good luck with that. It's like ChatGPT4 versus Sox Pong.
