  1. Doesn't usually go well with starters, either. https://friarsonbase.com/2018/11/30/san-diego-padres-acquire-garrett-richards/
  2. Chris Get sounds like a much more formidable exec.
  3. Mentioned Clevinger, Lynn (coveted by other GMs who think he would be fine outside the Sox clubhouse) and Anderson’s decreased values as well.
  4. Which players after Gio, Grandal, Middleton, Andrus, Lynn?
  5. You are free to close the Padres thread if Preller does that. And Grandal already was part of the Padres organization, fyi.
  6. July 4: Will Bieber be dealt before Deadline? Rival clubs are showing continued interest in some of Cleveland’s starting pitchers, but it’s still uncertain if the club will move any of them before the Trade Deadline, reports MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi. Although the Guardians are two games under .500, they’ve played better lately, going 9-5 over their past 14 games, and sit only one game out of first place in the AL Central. That said, a trade can’t be completely ruled out, even if the team continues to win. Cleveland has shown a willingness in the past to deal controllable starting pitchers while still remaining in the playoff hunt -- the club did it with Trevor Bauer in 2019 and Mike Clevinger in 2020. Shane Bieber, who has one year of arbitration eligibility remaining before free agency, is the most likely Guardians starter to be dealt. The 2020 AL Cy Young winner has recorded a 3.48 ERA with an 85-to-28 K/BB ratio over 106 innings in 2023. With Aaron Civale, Cal Quantrill and Triston McKenzie all spending time on the IL this season and Zach Plesac struggling over five starts before being sent to the Minors, the Guardians have had to dip into their rotation depth more than expected, and they’ve gotten solid production from rookies Tanner Bibee (3.46 ERA, 9.3 K/9), Logan Allen (3.47 ERA, 9.1 K/9) and Gavin Williams (3.79 ERA, 0.95 WHIP). The early success of Bibee, Allen and Williams, who were all ranked among MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects entering this season, could embolden the Guardians to deal the 28-year-old Bieber this summer instead of waiting until the offseason or next year’s Deadline, when he’ll have less trade value. History says the Guardians are unlikely to re-sign Bieber if he reaches free agency. Chuck Finley's $27 million contract covering the 2000-02 seasons is still the largest free-agent deal they've reached with a pitcher in franchise history. MLB.com
  7. Robert started the day with the 3rd highest fWAR in the game. I would hope they/fans would rather watch a star than see Hahn fail to execute yet another "slam dunk" trade that should be stocked in favor of the Sox.
  8. Seems to be pretty set in stone that Rodon Gio and eventually Cease and Kopech will all depart the Sox without extension offers...at least realistic enough ones to be considered seriously by their agents.
  9. Well, he and Jose Berrios were pretty much the two worst qualified starters in the entire majors last year. Obviously much closer to a weak 2 or strong 3 this year.
  10. Haven't heard of a Neftali since Perez. It was really hard to even get three seats together...purchased with Visa card through assistance of hotel concierge workers who actually left the hotel to assist me (only 3800 yen so must be pretty high up). Unfortunately, no tipping allowed in JPN, but can give small thoughtful gifts like a shoehorn or umbrella for superior customer service. Just saw the infamous Hachiko (Akita) dog statue here in Shibuya...yesterday, mostly shopping near Ginza and attempting to learn the quote complex train and subway system Tokyo is famous for, ever since the 1960s/70s.

  12. Have tickets for BayStars/Yomiuri Giants on Sat night at the Tokyo Dome. Will be interesting experience to watch a game with 55,000 in attendance...although not much of a domed stadium fan.

  14. Scheduling. Looks like nine other teams out of action. Doesn't really make sense with the opportunity to have an excellent Monday crowd for once.
  15. But it doesn't matter quite so much to Boston because of how small LF is there...see Manny Ramirez, for example. Sill think the White Sox completely miss on the marketing side. Harper vs. Machado...for example. Never gave it a serious shot with the latter and paid an even higher price to the rebuild's momentum crumbling. Benintendi Grandal Lynn Keuchel all had/have negligible value in terms of putting butts in seats. All things being equal or caveat emptor...since it's essentially a business of entertainment...but the White Sox have just never had a cohesive or coherent vision in terms of team building.
  16. Minus the two really strong individual seasons from Eaton and Avisail...
  17. Christine O'Reilly-Riordan begins her 35th season with the White Sox and her third as Vice President of Community Relations/Executive Director of Chicago White Sox Charities after being promoted to the position in February 2015.
  18. As they went through two miscarriages when he was attempting to come back from multiple injuries, including TJ. Also talks a bit about mental health problems in Covington, IN, wife Ashley's hometown. Didn't realize he spent so much time there. https://www.yahoo.com/news/mental-physical-battles-molded-carlos-093000681.html
  19. OF Masataka Yoshida, Red Sox Feels a little silly to list multiple Red Sox since they sit fifth in the AL East, but Yoshida has done nothing but get on base since the moment he arrived at Fenway Park from Japan. His .377 OBP ranks fifth in the AL, pairing it with a .305 average and a respectable 17 doubles. yahoo.com/sports 8 All Star snubs
  20. Which was one of the most exciting seasons for Sox fans in nearly a decade...the 1990 team in the final season of Old Comiskey. That Himes firing had absolutely zero to do with performance and all to do with personality clashes.
  21. Wade 11 for his last 28...Remillard of their team. Bringing in Bummer now?

  23. Beckham...nice jinx on praising Robert's at-bat. Complete momentum shift in this one.
