  1. Does Bobby Bonilla count?... also need to have the Junior attached. Best Robert/Bob/Roberto in MLB history Roberto Clemente. Or Bob Feller.
  2. 19 of last 22 Sox homers solo versions second in AL with 23 homers...versus Ohtani's leading the league 444 feet last White Sox All-Star in CF was Chet Lemon
  3. Cleveland already up 4-0 over the Royals...Rangers all over the Tigers 6-0
  4. Twins and White Sox with dueling versions of accountability/responsibility... "I take full responsibility for the way things are going offensively in the first half," shortstop Carlos Correa said before Wednesday's 3-0 loss in Atlanta. "I'll keep putting in the work every day and when it clicks, it's going to be better not just for me but for the entire team." Before Wednesday's loss, manager Rocco Baldelli didn't want to delve into details about the offense's issues. He didn't mince words after they were shut out for the sixth time this year. "The first half is by us," said Baldelli, who closed the clubhouse to reporters, making players unavailable to comment. "We played middling type of baseball through the first half. I'm not saying we don't care. They work their butts every day. The vast majority of our guys come in, they're focused and they are true professionals at what they do. But we're not playing together as a team right now. I take that on too." The Twins hit .232 with a .710 OPS in the first half of the season, ranking in the bottom third of the league in both categories. They averaged 4.23 runs per game, but they had 30 games when they scored two or fewer runs. They led the majors with 824 strikeouts and remain on pace to shatter the all-time record for team strikeouts. https://sports.yahoo.com/correa-takes-blame-twins-offensive-184300355.html
  5. Steve Cohen, Mets' owner Similar philosophy to JR... but completely different mindsets in terms of arriving at those conclusions. "I’m a patient guy, OK?" the 67-year-old hedge fund billionaire said. “Now, everybody wants a headline. Everybody says: Fire this person, fire that person. But I don't see that as a way to operate. "If you want to attract good people to this organization, the worst thing you can do is be impulsive, OK, and win the headline for the day. ... You're not attracting the best talent. You're not going to want to work for somebody who has a short fuse. Listen, I know fans, they want something to happen. I get it. But sometimes, you can’t do it because you have long-term objectives." Cohen said the team is still pursuing a team president and a president of baseball operations. This year's trade deadline is Aug. 1 and an unsuccessful season could increase interest in a youth movement for a team that had the oldest average age on opening day. Cohen said he'd be willing to cover salaries in trades if it improved the prospect haul coming back. “If it turns out we don't improve and I'm looking at '24 with a similar team, one year older, for a veteran team, probably not a great place to be,” Cohen said. “We have to make honest, truthful judgments.” https://www.yahoo.com/news/mets-owner-steve-cohen-threatens-203431683.html
  6. Former Sox infielder and trade/FA target Eduardo Escobar joining the Angels' lineup for tonight's game.
  7. Quotes you will never hear from Pedro Grifol after Sox losses for $200, please. “Well, what I took away was the truth of the matter is we were flat and we made no adjustments really in the game almost whatsoever, and if you’re going to call a spade a spade and say how it is, that’s not good baseball,” Baldelli said. Twins' closed their clubhouse today. Accompanied by the inevitable team meeting.
  8. Beating the Braves and Orioles not so easy. Schedule opening the door to CLE to grab hold of first place.
  9. Release him. He will go back to the Reds to finish his career.
  10. Could be 5 but could also be 6.5 with a Sox loss and Cleveland win as they would take over first place, similar to last season where the Twins led most of the first half.
  11. Melky Cabrera was simply Benintendi a decade earlier. The difference is he kept the deal limited to three years. Going too long with Lynn (extension) Keuchel Grandal and now Benintendi has been the death of Hahn. Obviously, the health of Hendriks, too. Always go one year too short rather than one year too long. Hahn did get lucky in one aspect...AJ Pollock and Jose Abreu have been among the worst players in baseball this year.
  12. Except the occasional Princeton or Penn or Harvard plays with so much confidence from winning all season long and their unique style of play (Pete Carill) makes them match up nightmares for Power 6 teams. That works a lot better in one on one sudden death games when crowds instantly shift to the Cinderellas.
  13. Even the pleasant surprise of the 2012 team…with almost as many rookies as the 2022-23 Guardians, the fans never really believed in that team down the stretch and they led for a good stretch of the season over the Tigers. Or 2008 after Quentin went down…it’s almost impossible to imagine a team with no rotation depth, a fading bullpen, poor defense, almost zero fundamentals, injury prone, etc., doing anything at all in the postseason. The Twins have actually managed to prove they can’t even win a single series, just like the White Sox. It has been closer and closer to a decade now since the 2014-16 Royals and then Indians/Guardians amazing runs in the World Series/postseason. Realistically, how could any long-suffering Sox fan believe in Hahn still/now with a century plus of countervailing historical evidence? The Twins at least excel in pitching and have Duran at the back end. The Guardians have youth/energy and Francona on their side. The White Sox it’s basically Luis Robert alone to carry the entire team at this point.
  14. Baltimore is a great example…for decades and decades they tried to spend their way into contention through free agency. Chris Davis was the poster boy in that regard. They learned how to do scouting, analytics, evaluation and development and are beating all those AL powerhouses but the Rays at their own game while running a hugely profitable payroll simultaneously. The Rockies, Mariners until recently, White Sox and Royals are/were the only pretty hopeless franchises. Even the lowly Marlins almost always develop talent internally. And the Tigers have a narrow path forward but still much better positioned than the Sox except for the Baez contract…which is basically two Benintendi’s.
  15. The whole produced by Clevinger and Cease/Kopech starts going 4-5+ innings is going to implode the entire bullpen at some point…especially down Hendriks and Crochet again and looking to trade at least 2-3 of the best arms down there in Kelly Middleton Graveman Lopez and perhaps even Santos.
  16. Hahn said they won’t go all in for the postseason if there’s no realistic path forward to win. Does Atlanta now being 16-2 versus the AL and NL Central provide a better example of the Herculean task ahead? Let’s keep in mind they’re trailing three teams here…not just one or even two.
  17. Some other big differences. 1) Lost niche of staying healthy when Herm Schneider departed. 2) Cuban Connection almost completely dried up 3) DR and Venezuela and Asia/Pacific Rim dry markets for the Sox going on two decades now…you can sustain yourself as a small market team like the Guardians, Rays, Pirates and Reds unearthing superstars there
  18. With what pitching staff? You're overlooking how likely it is that Lynn and Clevinger will also be out the door with Lucas.
  19. Goes with the Berto radio rant...just a bit more melancholic lol.
  20. 4. The best pitching staff in baseball belongs to … the Twins? The first-place Twins -- who, to be fair, are only at .500 -- have had all sorts of lineup disappointments, not least of which is Carlos Correa, who has had a season not nearly commensurate with how much we were talking about him all winter. But the Twins have more than hung in thanks to their pitching staff, which leads the Majors in FanGraphs WAR. Pablo López has been all Minnesota had wanted after acquiring him for Luis Arraez (more on him below), and Joe Ryan and Sonny Gray have been outstanding, too. A fantastic pitching staff making up for an underwhelming lineup en route to an AL Central lead? We thought that was Cleveland’s thing. www.mlb.com Looks like the Guardians are going to pass the Twins for first as early as today despite being perhaps the most overlooked competitive team. If not them, it's defibitely Miami or AZ.
  21. Lost development time, Covid year, marital/relationship issues, TJ recovery, etc.
  22. I just believe strictly from a marketing standpoint Burger's story has more value to the White Sox and their fans if they're legitimately going to tear this down. He might end up more Matt Davidson or Conor Gillaspie or Chris Snopek. Started a thread a month ago and it's still not clear what position player a typical fan would even want to watch hit after Robert. Maybe they do end up holding Anderson, Jimenez and Moncada into next season...and not quite sure "Anderson's lame duck rodeo" works if he doesn't show much improvement through the end of this season. Without any prospects to market like they had from 2018-20...especially on the pitching side, not sure how they can survive another rebuild with almost nobody to look forward to the next couple of seasons on pitching side. Drafting more "immediate impact" NCAA players (Vaughn Collins Madrigal Burger Burdi) likewise seems to be the path of typical Sox rebuilds...but look how well that worked out.
  23. See Oakland A's and Cincy owners... although that kind of reverse backfired on the Reds' ownership as they suddenly have one of the most entertaining teams in the sport. Marlins and Rays still undecided...
