Upcoming Week - Chance to get within 2-3 GB of the Twins
caulfield12 replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Elly de la Cruz=$65,000 at age 16/17 Tatis was well under $1 million. You have to keep taking your lottery ticket shots at those youngest guys who are not 100% developed physically and that will peak later in their teenage years. -
Hence, no SoxFest. They care far more about negative PR/perception than what the fanbase actually wants. Even Ricketts has been like a Profiles in Courage Award winner compared to the Sox triumvirate of power.
-
Soto is under control through next season, so 2 1/2 years and potentially 3 postseasons for 5 organizational Top 10 guys with four of them at one point being legit Top 3-35 MiLB and Abrams Gore and now James Wood Top 3-10. Clevinger for CLE is what feels like the going rate for Cease right now... that was a pretty significant overpay in hindsight due to injuries.
-
And to be accurate, it's not GQ as an entity or editorial comment on sports, it's one feature writer who doesn't seem to be remotely close to Fegan in Sox knowledge...that someone is dredging up cultural and racial issues because they sell. If that wasn't the case, there wouldn't have been one thousand articles dissecting Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark.
-
I don't even have a side here. It's definitely not to the benefit of the Chicago White Sox on or off the field if Tim Anderson really believes that he's that misunderstood. He clearly had no problems two years ago when he was on top of the world and was clearly one of the two team leaders and getting video game covers and Dairy Queen "Middle America" or mainstream acceptance, basically the equivalent of Wonder Bread or Hostess labeling him their spokeperson..along with Jose Abreu, at least along the position players. Between Giolito, Kelly, Graveman, Middleton and TA... we might have the equivalent of ONE Eaton/Q/Sale trade in terms of talent unless they were to deal Cease too. Since it's recent Hahn, though, expecting more Frazier/Kahnle/Robertson to NYY instead.
-
He's 25th out of 39 in fWAR...and we know his defense doesn't grade out very well, so he's basically slightly above the average offensively and below average defensively.
-
Two of those players have to be Burger and Colas being at least 2-3 fWAR along with Montgomery or they're dead before they even get started...
-
Kim Ng didn't spend enough time in the organization to look back wistfully and consider returning to such a mess. JR would never overpay her to take her away from the Marlins. He could have done the same with Francona after his Red Sox days and we let him go to another Central team where he's been. a complete thorn in the side ever since. Why we have tried to emulate the Royals with Buddy Bell then Getz Grifol is totally beyond me. We don't have a single player other than Luis Robert who fits the style of play of the 2013-16 Royals. Well maybe Remillard as a poor man's Merrifield.
-
They should just dump Sheets and play literally ANYONE but him... As far as Vaughn... trying to claw back a year of control when he's first or second on the team in RBI's seems like it is being petty. It's not like he can learn how to hit in Charlotte...where the stadium plays like a LL park in the summer months. Birmingham is arguably the best park to challenge a hitter's ability to make adjustments. The Sox need some recognizable names around for next season... Robert Vaughn and Burger would be the three biggest (maybe Benintendi) but no matter what things will be as bleak or worse than the mid 80s and late 90s for fans. And both those previous teams had much much better farm systems to look forward to as well. Imagine if Colson Montgomery doesn't become at least a 2-3 fWAR regular at SS or 3B and Hendriks just becomes a dead contract like Moncada Lynn Grandal, etc. That's the real lowest possible point. Or Robert Cease getting hurt.
-
That's a pretty pathetic standard when instead of World Series aspirations coming into 2022 the bar is now reduced to comparisons with KC Oak Detroit Colorado and WSH and simultaneously trying to sell the notion that Benintendi isn't THAT bad a contract. Great company with those cellar dwellers by the way. Pretty much the same exact place in the standings as the attendance race, 24th-26th.. Unfortunately, the White Sox don't even get what they pay for at 12th...ofc, someone will inevitably defend JR for running that Top 40th percentile payroll, but that's hardly a compliment because the money has been so terribly misallocated.

The Padres don't have an ace this year...maybe Wacha or Snell if they can get going. Musgrove... maybe. Too many maybes. Bogaerts and Machado aren't performing up to their projections... and their high leverage relievers are failing or hurt. Trade Hader Soto and Snell and suddenly things look different for 2024. Except they're built to win now and already have close to 30 sellouts...but also a frustrated fanbase with 3 NL West teams stacked ahead of them. Whatever you say about SD... at least they have won three playoff series in the 2020's, and knocked off the Cards Mets and Dodgers along the way. All that said...James Wood becoming a superstar in Washington is the end of Preller.
-
Therein lies the dilemma. Other than Giolito, who has significant value (beyond Robert/Cease)? They can try to hold every single reliever other than Middleton and hope for a Hendriks rebound... but you're still short on the starting rotation by 2-3 guys if you include Lynn and Clevinger. There's just no way they get through 2024 with only one starting pitcher injury again.

I think I've fallen in love with the Cincinnati Reds
caulfield12 replied to Dan Pasqua's topic in The Diamond Club
He's better than Tatis if he can stick on the left side of the infield and simply avoid getting hurt with how aggressively he runs the bases. Guys like Acuna and Ohtani are different arguments... but let's see how he adjusts when he and the Reds fave their first prolonged slump together. -
He's fine as the 6th or 7th best player on a big market team that can easily afford that contract. While it's not exactly crippling... you keep adding all these guy making $10-18 million per season that aren't even 2-3 fWAR contributors and it's a total disaster with no farm system capable of producing the same value at league minimum like CLE.
-
Well yeah...implicitly it was the author's suggestion or interpretation of Tim's place. The problem is that article was written in such a vacuum...it was as if he was still one of the best players in baseball and the last twelve months didn't even exist. Or that Tim will only give in depth interviews to national publications about cultural and racial issues but nothing to do with how he's playing that sport that made him famous. The fact he's trying to act like Tatis stole his act with bat flips... when Fernando's the one most honest and true to himself as a player, still having fun by embracing the role of a villain or anti hero. The worst thing is a player not even being entertaining to watch anymore.
-
What are they even trying to get out of Lopez at this point? Kelly and Graveman and Middleton should be the ones they're showcasing for trades. Need to give Santos more opportunities to see what he can be for 2024. Granted, Lopez was so good last year until they decided to use that high leverage success and turn it in closing... that works about 1/4th or 1/3rd of the time at best.
-
You're forgetting... two of the biggest superstars in the world and Rendon.
-
Putting Sheets out in RF was idiotic too. Remillard a bigger threat.
-
To lead to a sell off?
-
Derek Jeter Grandal most assuredly is not.
-
Grandal flipping that ball back towards home plate is ten times worse than Robert not moving when ball went over his head lol.
-
Katz is like the Korean "white van/truck of death" that invariably shows up in a K drama when a character is about to be killed off.
-
Well...could we please just send Lopez and Bummer to the Rays so they can be fixed, too?
-
This feels familiar...
