That was a s***ty effort by the redbirds. Won by 4. Was a real fun game to be at though. Over 50 percent in attendance was ISU fans. Its almost like they were avoiding O in the second half after he had 17 in the first half. They have a long way to go before conference play. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) Dude, you need to stop. Flexing your muscles after whipping North Florida? How is just saying that ISU won and its not a surprise against a bad North Florida team "Flexing my muscles"? QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) I just checked top 25, didnt see Illinois State. That doesn't matter to me, just stated a win, you also gave a much bigger recap of a beatdown of central arkansas so I dont see how me saying we beat north florida means I think were a top 25 team. We have a lot of work to do to get considered for that. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 02:37 AM) I was there for Beckham first ML hit vs. the A's. Do I win? Not at USCF, but I was in attendance for his first ML home run against the Reds in Cincy. -
The dudes going to be 43 in april. He's only three years younger than Ozzie. This amuses me greatly.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) Very nice, but I see two issues. First, I think you got your final interpretation backwards. a non-significant calculated P-value will cause you to fail to reject the null (no difference), but you indicated you should "fail to reject the claim that there is a difference", so I think you just got it crossed in the end. I'm also questioning your interpretation of one- versus two-tailed tests. Certainly, yes, this is a two-tailed comparison since there is no a priori reason to assume one gender is smarter than the other. But, that means you will have to split your rejection area between the two tails of the bell curve. Logically that suggests you should halve the look-up (table) value rather than doubling it because you can't place your entire rejection area on just one side of the distribution. Am I misinterpreting something on that? yes, you should halve the .01 to .005.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 01:21 AM) May 22, 2006. Frank Thomas' first game back at USCF as a member of the A's. Soxtalk/WSI had a patio party, Jon Garland welcomed Thomas back by allowing him to cream 2 HRs, Ozuna wins it for the Sox with a walk-off bunt single. But, what does everyone remember that was there? That damn squirrel. I went to that game with NIUsox. That Squirrel was hilarious. Also last year at a sox/cubs game I saw an usher hear something over his radio and he said to the other one that there was a cub fan in the upper deck spitting on everyone. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Doug Collins is right though. Noone can make a damn three (or at times two pointers for that matter) for Rose to try and penetrate to the basket. He's got no lanes since they are all clogged. Rose does though he to just pass the ball more since he's struggling on his jumper. It's a valid point, but he still needs to stop with the quick jumpers. I'm afraid this is going to get ugly. -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Literally I just learned how to do this like the last few days in my stats class. I don't know what they mean H(sub 0) but I'm assuming its H(sub o) and H(sub a) Ho: X1=X2 Ha: X1=/=X2 Sample 1: (Male) N1= 43 X1= 21 S1=5 Sample 2: (Female) N1= 56 X1=20.8 S2=1.8 Alpha = .01 Using P-Value Finding the test Statistic Z = (X1-X2)/SQRT(S1^2/N1+S2^2/N2) Z=(21-20.8)/SQRT(5^2/43+1.8^2/56) Z=(.2)/SQRT(.58139+.05785) Z=(.2)/SQRT(.63925) z=0.25 P(Z>0.25) Looking at the table we fine the area to the right of Z = 0.25 to = .4013 Pvalue = .4013 Since its a two-tailed test double it Pvalue = .8026 Since Alpha .01(signifigance level) is less then the P-Value of .8026 you fail to reject the claim that there is a difference of scores between males and females. I just learned this so I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right so maybe someone can check over my work. I did it while I was in class since I was bored and I got the same stuff so hopefully were not both wrong.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) Thanks - this is the questions word by word The mean ACT score for 43 male high school students is 21 and the standard deviation is 5. The mean ACT score for 56 female high school students is 20.8 and the standard deviation is 4.7. At the 1% level, can you reject the claim that male and female high school students have equal ACT scores? They are asking for.... H(sub 0): H(sub 0): P: Value Decision: (Reject or Fail to Reject). There is (significant or insignificant) evidence to reject the claim Maybe, that is why I can't figure it out - is it even possible? I'm in class now until 9 pm but if it hasn't been answered I will give it a go. Just did this stuff in my stats class a couple of weeks ago.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) They don't have any huge holes that need to be plugged, but they could certainly get better. The lineup was very inconsistent, and it's a bit unsettling if they come back with the same lineup as last year (obviously, no Dye or Thome, but with a full season of Beckham and now Teahan). I do think they will make another move for a left handed bat, but we'll probably have to be patient because Williams is right in that there will probably be a few guys available at a bargain. I suspect they will add a bullpen arm as well, but, again, they aren't going to get into a bidding war for a reliever that could just as easily be bad as good. I think, barring any trades (which I think will blow this out of the water)....Jenks is the closer, Thornton as the 8th inning guy....Linebrink is here because of his contract, and that leaves probably 4 spots. Randy Williams may make it as a left handed specialist, Daniel Hudson should make it, and Carlos Torres has a chance to make it. That leaves 1 to 2 spots open. Not a great bullpen by any standard, and it may not be very good, but I'm sure Williams expects a lot of quality starts next season, which should leave for a fresher bullpen having to throw less innings. In the end, I still believe they are going to move Jenks for younger talent (or the possibility of a guy he's been targetting on a major league team that isn't making much money), I suspect they will resign Podsednik and then wait awhile to see who their options are for another hitter. you forgot carrasco, he will be on the team and deservedly so. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) I love the Bears (not the 2009 team, which I hate but the concept of the franchise in general) but I would have to agree that Bears fans are pretty dumb. Well over half of Bears fans are Cubs fans so it makes sense.

If you're an NFL GM, what round would you pick Lebron?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) There's much more to WR than just being athletic. True, but I think his abilities transfer over pretty well. I don't think he could walk right onto the field and be a star but had he decided to go with football I think he would be a Pro Bowl WR or TE. -

I'm saying first or second. I love how all the football guys are saying he couldn't take the beating of the NFL. Give me a break. Saying that a 6'8 260 pound guy like Lebron couldn't take it but Devin Hester can is a joke. He may be the most athletic man on the planet so I think he'd do alright if he had gone to football. He was an All state wide receiver in high school as a sophomore before he focused on basketball. -
