QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) as a Fan, I'd say burls and the marshmellow man, as a GM, TCQ all the way. closers are a dime a dozen (my opinion), and burls is not an ace. My thoughts exactly.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) He's mixing in more curveballs, but he's primarily going with the two seam sinking fastball at 90-91 MPH. He doesn't really seem like he's dominating, but he's certainly pitching effectively against Pena, who is the one batter you don't want to beat you in their line-up...and it would have been nice had Matt Thornton had the time to study the way they're attacking Zobrist, but he's not as dangerous as a LH hitter. Swisher K's (hat trick) with the bases loaded against Pavano in the bottom of the 6th. Floyd's gotten a few Ks on his change today. It seems like he's going mainly fastballs but making them think about the curve, then right when they forget about it, he gets them swinging at a change for strike 3.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) Hopefully Garza doesn't have his top stuff today... what were the Twins thinking when they traded him? They were thinking that Delmon Young was one of the best young players in the game and was ready to breakout to elite status.

Well if...maybe..could be....I don't know!

Someone should ask Mark Buehrle what he thinks about the issue.....

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) I think this is the worst group of players every assembled and Ozzie probably has nightmares of these guys C- Ron Karkovice 1B- Nick Swisher 2B- Andy Gonzalez SS- Jose Valentin 3B- Juan Uribe RF- Joe Borchard CF Dewayne Wise LF- Darin Erstad DH- Carl Everett OF - Luis Terraro SP- Javier Vazquaez Starts everyday RP- Mike Macdougal RP- Boone Logan RP- Horacio Ramirez RP- Ehren Wasserman CP- Billy Kroch I don't think I've ever disliked a White Sox player as much as I disliked Andy Gonzalez. Ron Karkavice takes second on my all time list.

Given all current MLB players, who would you put together on a team in baseball in terms of guys who are the worst at getting along with their teammates/fans/media/human beings in general. This may be mine, C: AJ Pierzynski 1B: 2B: 3B: SS: LF: Manny Ramirez CF: Elijah Dukes RF: Milton Bradley SP: CL: Would this team beat a team made up of the very best clubhouse guys?

Buehrle apparently just threw 100 MPH.....

How is Derek Rodriguez pitching for us? I thought he was rule V drafted by Tampa.

My wife and I are looking to capitalize on the bad market and buy our first house this summer. We found one that could have some good potential, but the possible deal breaker is that the house uses well water and a septic tank. I understand that the septic tank can be an issue because I'd have to pay for it to remove waste a few times a year and if there's something wrong with it, that'd be my major cost. My question to Soxtalk is... does anyone have experience with well water? Did it stain your clothes and taste bad? I've heard some people say that it is awful no matter what and others say that if you have a good water softner that you won't know the difference between well and city water. Anyone with experience with well water homes give me your thoughts. In case it matters, this house is in unincorporated Wheaton.

Rosenthal: Melky Cabrera is on the block; Sox would be good fit
Marky Mark replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Almost, deal fell through. Anyone know how Melky's D is? How's his arm? -
Interesting that this thread just popped up because my wife told me yesterday that she had a dream she kissed one of my friends, then today she said she had another dream in which she was kissing my brother. Looks like its time to Mark to take care of some business.....

I miss Bureau the most. Despite his wonderful information he'd supply, he'd go into fits of uncontrollable rage with little regard for his own person job security.

QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) Where is Josh Kroeger amongst these options? Actually I forgot about him when I was doing the CF options. For some reason he's not on the Sox spring training stats list on the official MLB Sox page. Mods you can add him into the CF poll if you'd like.

I think I want to see what Alexei looks like in CF before voting for him there. I don't really remember.

Crede is currently 0 for 14 in spring training. Yikes.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) 300 IP at the AAA level in '07 and '08 where he put up an ERA in the mid 4's and a consistently mediocre WHIP. Actually now that I think about it, he's never really done anything noteworthy except at the pitcher's paradise in Birmingham. I was encouraged by those '06 numbers but they look like an anomaly now. It's not that I'm a hater, it's that there really isn't much to go off of besides the fact that he was a first-round pick. The sample size I was refering to was how much time you've had to watch him live in person or via tv to see his pitches speed/break/location. I didn't mean his career stats.

For all the Broadway haters out that that dislike the guy specifically for his '08 MLB campaign consider this, If you take out his one truly bad outing on Aug 27 (which was a relief outing in which the Sox were already losing and would have still lost even if Broadway gave up no runs) Lance would have had a 3.60 ERA at the MLB level. So in other words, the damage against his ERA was done in a game which it didn't matter anways (never an excuse to not try, but just consider that it didn't matter for the sake of the team). For all those who dislike him because you have observed his pitching style and his "stuff" (or lack of), what kind of sample size do you have? Sure he might not look like a control pitcher in some of his first outings against major leaguers, but that happens often to young rookies who want to overthrow or overcontrol the ball. I really don't think Broadway and Richard are that far apart. With that said, I don't see either one as having much of any decent major league future. I think both will spend a little time in the bigs as 5th starters or long men relievers

S/T: 3/04 GM 2 CWS vs. CHC in Vegas baby!
Marky Mark replied to knightni's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Anybody notice that Poreda's first pitch was a 97 MPH heater and then his velocity declined more and more after that. He was 93-94 most of the time, but threw a couple at 91 too. I wonder if he loses his velocity quickly or if he just tried to calm himself. -

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Travis Snider for OC straight up would be nice. We could trade Dye for young pitching, move Quentin to RF, and put Snider in LF. I can't see the Jays be willing to give up Snider though. Brett Cecil + a lower level prospect (s) or David Cooper and some lower level prospects. What do you guys think would be a fair enough return for OC? Cooper cannot be traded yet. If the Jays are truly trying to lower payroll they may try to part with an injured Vernon Wells and his massive contract. There is however a NTC that would need to be passed up by Wells. There's no way the Sox would take all of his contract though.

Where are you guys getting Gameday from? I don't see it available on mlb.com
