QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Haven't seen him on any current roster or on upcoming Bristol/Great Falls rosters. Is he injured? Apologies for my ignorance. You shouldn't have to apologize unless every other thread on here is asking the exact same thing. Soxtalk is a place to be freely educated, not ridiculed for wondering where a low minor leaguer is.

White Sox opening video (shown at home games)

QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) seriously this was good for a while but they should get something new I kinda agree. I used to get all pumped up for their game when that video/music started playing, but now its just starting to become background noise. -
This just in, Sammy Sosa is claiming that he was only using the steroids for batting practice to entertain his fans, but not for the real games.
-
I think this could be a turning point for people to stop caring about steroids.

How do you feel about the Chicago Cubs?
Marky Mark replied to Marky Mark's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Sometimes I wonder if I hate the fans more than the team. There are players that I actually like (Derrek Lee, Ramirez) but its the clueless fans that I have a problem with. I hate their fans a lot more, but its easy to dislike Soriano and Zambrano -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) You will still feel this same way if it's tied at the end of the year between say Minnesota and Chicago..and it goes to a 163rd game? Good point. I'm not sure what emotion would be stronger for me, My joy of the Sox winning a world series Or my agony of the Cubs winning a world series. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Also i dont see how option 2 can outnumber option 3 Our opponents in the ALC will win games no matter what. What better team to get those wins against than the Cubs? I don't feel like I'm cheering against the Sox if I want the Twins to beat the Cubs. It does affect the Sox, but not enough that I want to see those Cub fans' smiling faces. I also enjoy watching AL teams smash NL teams. -
For the most part he's rowing the same boat as McGwire, who did not get in on first ballot. So I will say...nope. But I do believe he will get in the hall eventually.
-
I love Steve Stone. He pretty much just took the entire show of Chicago Tribune Live to talk about how awful the Cubs are and how terrible of a GM Hendry is.
-
What's his fastball topping out at these days? 78 MPH?

I do admit, there have been times when I've questioned if I am a bigger Cub hater or Sox lover, but I gotta stay real and say Sox first then Cub hatred second.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Just say no to Zito! Kenny Williams deserves a lot of credit for not being tied down to horrible contracts like Zito. Many teams around the league have these crap contracts filling up their rosters [just see the Cubs]. I just read today that Dontrelle Willis still has like $22 million due to him thru 2011. Thank goodness KW has had the foresight to not get bogged down in some bad contracts [like Rowand, Fukudome,] when a lot of people were calling for him to open the checkbook. If I recall correctly, the Sox offered more money to Fukudome than the Cubs, but he elected to go there because they didn't want him to play center field whereas we did and he was to be the first Japanese player over there, but not here. So that one goes in the luck column, but yes your point is still very true. I think in the past a lot of Sox fans were angry that he wasn't ponying up big money for pitchers, but in reality his rule about pitching contracts is very good and true.
-
My guess would be that if we will be trading for any pitcher this season who is not a prospect, it would be a very well defined starter that could take either ace or #2 status in a rotation. I don't see the Sox taking on a project this year since we already have a mix of Richard/Colon/Contreras who we're really not sure if they're gonna work or not. Why add another unsure, yet potentially good starter.

Cubs fans and Sox fans... not so different?
Marky Mark replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:04 AM) Cubs fans' favorite talking point is how Sox fans are all violent white trash and they love to bring up the Ligue incident. They love to ignore that they do things like this JUST as often, it doesn't get publicized. Did you know that Billy Ligue got a government job after getting out of jail? Ridiculous. I guess his son cleaned up his act a lot, but Billy deals coke and heroin and is still a dickhead. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) I can't believe no one posted this yet - maybe I missed it. The Trib did a survey and ran this article, showing that statistically, Cubs and Sox fans are much more similar than different demographically. Thoughts? No quiz on baseball knowledge was given. Exactly. One of the primary reasons I became a Sox fan was because there was a very noticable difference between how much the Sox fans knew their team and the game of baseball vs. how much the Cubs fans knew their team and the game of baseball. I do admit, after winning the world series the Sox fanbase became a lot dumber in the baseball world though. But the difference is still there. -
QUOTE (Pale Hose Jon @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) I am not a teacher, but many of my friends are. It is actually a bad idea to get you masters before you have a teaching job. If it comes down to it, and it is you and a teacher without a masters for your first job, they will take the teacher without the masters every time. Schools dont want to pay extra for the teacher with the masters, when both teachers have the same experience in the classroom. Your best bet would be to get a job, and then have the school pay for your classes. (disregard this if you already are a teacher) Sometimes, but not always true. My older brother is in the same situation, in that he has his bachelors and is debating about whether or not to go back to get his master in education or get his undergrad certificate. My father is an elementary school principal and has actually recommended getting the masters. He admits that schools will avoid taking on someone with a masters to avoid paying more, but they also consider that a valuable tool too sometimes.

Has anyone on here played in both ESPN and Yahoo leagues? I'm the commissioner of a 5th year Yahoo Plus rotisserie league, but this year it has been brought into question if we should continue using Yahoo. Is there much difference between the two? Are their any other major fantasy league sites that you'd recommend over yahoo?

Peavy could be sidelined as long as 12 weeks
Marky Mark replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) The only thing that indicates is that he's more comfortable pitching at home, like most of the league. Home/Road ERA's fluctuate a ton from player to player. I hate that argument. Peavy's stuff and ability to pitch translates to any stadium against any competition, period. I don't think anyone's saying or has ever said that he wouldn't be a good pitcher here, I think it's just a major dispute of whether or not he's an ace here. Yes, players often perform better at home, but Peavy has a bigger advantage at his home than most pitchers. Petco is a huge difference maker. 1) Remove him from Petco, he gets worse because every single other park is harder to pitch in 2) Remove him from the NL, he gets worse because the hitters are better and now he faces 9 of them not 8. -
Do people with peanut allergies really have it that bad that they can't be in the same park as them?

JPN366, Do you work with the Barons' team/stadium, or do you just have season tickets?
