  1. I like the Freeman deal a lot. I know he's older, but I'm completely fine with that. You can't have everyone on the team be young, and it's good to have solid veterans that can show the young guys how things are done. Plus, Freeman is just a good player. He'll be a nice piece for the next couple years. Bringing back Unrein is a solid move too. Good for depth.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) Seemed legit enough to me. A 2nd rounder plus whatever big money we'd give him, wouldn't necessarily be unrealistic. That said, I presume Jets are going to give him the bucks. I agree. I just didn't think the Bears would pull off a Blockbuster deal for a stud 26 year old DL - an area that's a major need while getting rid of a locker room cancer. That part seemed to good to be true. But yeah, in theory, a really good TE and a 2nd rounder (plus saving cap space that will be needed for Sheldon Richardson) wouldn't be pretty fair. Jets DL depth is insane already, so they don't necessarily need Wilkerson.
  3. I was ecstatic. I knew it was too good to be true. I started getting multiple texts about it, which was the only reason I though it might be true. Then I did my own search and couldn't find a thing about it.
  4. Anybody hearing this Mohammed Wilkerson chatter? Is this really happening?? Scratch that. Think I'm getting punked. Don't see it being reported anywhere.
  5. Vols Vandy might have screwed themselves out of the tourney. Can't believe we beat them without our best player.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) How can you say this without knowing the guaranteed money? My thoughts exactly. In the NFL, it's all about the guaranteed money. Massie getting 3 years, $18M is not bad considering I bet about $10M at most is guaranteed. Though I really do think he'll live up to that contract. With the increase in the cap (and the projected increased over the next few years), $6M for a starting RT isn't bad at all. To note: Travathan only got $12M guaranteed. And I'm sure Porter's guaranteed portion is in the single digits.
  7. I've long been a proponent of finding a RT so we can move Long back to RG. Glad the Bears saw it that way too. Massie is a solid vet. I see him as a Fred Miller-type of signing (albeit much younger than Fred - just similar type of expectations). It's nice that we have Trevathan and Massie during the prime years of their careers.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) This will kill all the meathead Bears fans. You don't have to be a meathead fan to dislike the idea of Forte being on the Packers.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) @RapSheet 2m2 minutes ago Rodney McLeod agrees with the #Eagles for 5 years, $37M, source said. @AdamSchefter 7m7 minutes ago Former Chargers TE Ladarius Green is expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, per source. As always with the NFL, important to see the guaranteed money there. But that's a big contract for a guy like McLeod.
  10. I'm partial to Gipson at the Safety spot. He's young, has plenty of past success, and if he had been a FA last year, he would have commanded much more money. Very likely to get a better ROI with him. The downside is he has missed 8 games combined over the past 2 years (5 in 2015, 3 in 2016). So you wonder about injuries. Still, I'm taking that chance.
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 06:22 PM) I feel like it's semi universal for every city, just more pricey in different areas. I was in California for the Hawks-Ducks WCF last season. I knew I wanted to go, and planned on like I was going each game, but didn't have tickets. For the 3+ OT game, I actually bought tickets on my phone in the parking lot of the stadium from StubHub. I was behind the goal the Hawks shot twice at upstairs in Anaheim for like 65 bucks, and that was for the Western Conference Finals. I couldn't believe it. That's awesome. What a great game to be at... I was in LA for the playoff series against the Kings 2 years ago. I should have tried what you did. I ended up watching most of the game from a bar at LAX. At that moment, I really regretted not staying an extra day and trying to go to the game. Pretty sure Kane scored with like 3 minutes left to send the series to Game 7.
  12. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) If you know that night you want to go to the game, just wait it out on StubHub. That's what I've done in the past and works fairly well. As many know, when you sell tickets on StubHub, you can set price drops at certain times that are automated, so if your tickets are still out there 4 hours before the game, they will start to drop in price based on your settings. So wait it out, usually you can find a single ticket(seat) for 60-70 bucks. Doesn't really answer your SRO question, but you should be able to get a seat. That's perfect. I'd rather have a real seat anyway. I figured that Hawks tickets seem to be hard to come by, so there wouldn't be that usual price drop right before game time. In Atlanta (which is not a great sports town), for example, you can always find something decently priced before game time. I scalp tickets a lot. But I didn't know if it would be the same. I'll definitely be in town, so I'll just plan on finding a ticket the day of. And if for some reason prices skyrocket, then that's okay too. I'll make it happen another time.
  13. I'll be in Chicago in April, and was hoping to catch my first Hawks game when they play the Blues. I'll likely be alone. Anybody have an opinion on the Standing Room Only tickets? I assume it's not worth it if you're alone and can't save a spot to stand. But just wanted to get some opinions. I don't have a problem paying $130 or whatever for a single upper deck ticket. But if I can pay $50 for SRO, and it's a good situation, I might as well save some money.
  14. Except in this case, Clay Travis is proving to be pretty spot-on. Actually read his article. The Manning accuser is losing any credibility. She was reported to the FBI for threatening phone calls last year. Check out her Facebook posts that are floating around. Ramblings of a crazy person.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) Read the foxsports article I linked. Some additional facts about the whole thing are provided, like the change in her original complaint and the eventual lawsuit allegations. It would be nice if people gathered actual facts and made their own decision rather than relying on King's hack piece. But that's probably too much effort to ask of folks. The FoxSports article does a pretty good job of showing how her story changed. Mike Florio also has a pretty good article discussing how completely incorrect Shaun King was: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/...peyton-manning/ Also, check out pages 7 and 8 in the below link. This is from a completely different court case that was brought about by Peyton's accuser. Naughright seems to have a penchant for suing people. https://www.docketalarm.com/cases/New_York_...eiss_et_al/114/
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) Didn't someone tweet out the Sox signed him like 5 weeks ago, only to delete it? Yeah, that was back in the last week of December. This one has been in the works for awhile it seems. A few posts down: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...7597&st=100
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Phil Emery joining the Falcons front office. I found Shea McClellin's destination in free agency. All joking aside, that's where Phil belongs. He's a good dude and a decent scout. He has a place in an NFL front office. Shouldn't be in charge though. Expect to see a bunch of dudes in Atlanta who have great measurables but can't play football. Also, 1st round draft picks that are expected to "contribute on special teams" this year, or whatever his comment was about McClellin. You draft a 1st rounder to be a starter and impact player from Day 1 (obvious exception at QB if you have a current starter, a la Packers with Favre/Rodgers). Not a guy who can play on Special Teams. What a clown.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Have you been? Regardless that's what I've heard. My brother's co-worker saw a game there and he had nothing but great things to say. September 17 against Alabama would be awesome.I'd like to fly Southwest; I have enough points where my flight would be comp'd. While they stopped flying to Jackson, Memphis is about an hour from Oxford I'd definitely suggest flying to Memphis. The drive to Oxford is really easy. And if you can use Southwest miles, even better. Oxford is a great small town. You can do more than just the football game, if you want. Rowan Oak (William Faulkner's home) is pretty cool if you are into literature or anything like that. The Square in downtown Oxford has a bunch of great shops and places to eat. And of course, The Grove on gameday is amazing. If it's not this year, definitely make it to an Ole Miss game at some point. While their games have always a lot of fun, it's even better now that the team is pretty good. I've been to more games at Ole Miss than I can remember, but this recent stretch of years has taken the whole atmosphere on game days to another level. I went to the UT-Ole Miss game last year, and while we got spanked, it was still a hell of a weekend. One new thing that has only happened in the last year or two: many bars in Oxford started charging covers to enter. One place I went last year (The Library) wanted $40 to enter, but usually it's in the $10-20 range (which is still a lot for a bar in Oxford, MS). Just be prepared for that if Ole Miss wins. Everyone wants to go out, and because it's such a small town, there aren't a ton of bars. Naturally, every place has a line and then those places charge covers because they know people will pay it.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Without getting too much into details, it was verified. Here was one of his best posts here. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...st&p=448366 Great stuff. I'm impressed you were able to remember that thread considering it was over 11 years ago. Fun to see some posters that I had forgotten about, as well as my comment about seeing the Barons when the come to Jackson. I definitely ended up doing that, though I didn't see McCarthy pitch.
  20. Good stuff. Thanks for posting. I've always rooted for McCarthy since we traded him. Just a likable guy.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:01 AM) Howard has been hiding for three years only to be unveiled now. I was always been amazed at how poorly Bama utilized Howard. He's a beast and yet they never got him involved much. Of course they finally do in the title game.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) So when given the list Munoz or Paniagua, you go with Munoz. Munoz to me is just a speck, same as Felix Diaz and a million of other guys who get a callup and give it a shot. Jose pitched 1/3rd of an inning in 1 game with the organization and is talked about in the same breadth (regularly) with Navarro. Personally, I think of Munoz first. That may not be the case with Sox nation as a whole. But I will never forget that Expos game. I was so excited to see what he could do.
