its both...the sox gun is a few off but botch 's speed is down alot more than that..i add about 4mph to our gun at the cell...against the twins his best fastball registered 90 mph...im guessing it really was about 94..about 5 mph off what should be his best fastball

heather did that same crap to loaiza in balt...he had the shut out going and she goes.."lets get the shut out"...very next pitch..bam..right over the left field wall we got a school these youngsters HSC...you donmt talk about crap like that
-
whats funny is loaiza is still available in two of my fantasy leagues..i cant bring myself to pick him up because i know as soon as i do and start him he will go like 1 innig 10 runs..lol...my luck is that bad...im taking one for the team

Me too, baggio. But hey, at least he didn't win a Heisman. I also like the two WR we took in the 5th round. Could be a couple sleepers there. Now we just need to get Casey Urlacher in here as a free agent to play some safety. most draft expert like those two recievers...my only problem is the are both possession receivers...nothing wrong with possession receivers but right now we got probably the best in the business in marty booker...we got nobody that can get open deep...in the past i guess that didnt matter because our QB's couldnt throw the ball 20 yards without a big banana in it...but now wth kordell and grossman it would be nice to have a real deep threat..stretch the defenses a little

its pretty much an unwritten rule that when a manager gets tossed he calls the game from the tunnel to the clubhouse..or maybe in todays hi tech world he calls it from the clubhouse via a cell phone... i'd really be surprised if anyone but manuel was really managing today

You're theory would also create a situation worse off than having a "bad" closer. Bullpen guys work much better with defined roles. They are better when they don't have to guess when they are going to get to pitch. "defined roles"...thats been the pat answer for years by managers who didnt have the guts to try something like this because then if they made the wrong choice or the right choice and it didnt work out they would have to answer why...this way if they go with the "defined" roles and if the closer blows a 3 run lead and the game the manager can just say , hey , he is our closer.... we pay him 10 million to finish games and he failed...takes the onus off the manager...you could have jerry reinsdorf manage then... relievers need to be ready to pitch everyday anways...if your using 3 guys to close they can tell as the game progresses if they will be needed...we played minny.. they are lefty stacked..marte had to know coming into this series he would pitch in a crucial spot if needed...billy koch should have known he was probably getting the weekend off or he might get an inning in a blow out to stay sharp..there are teams that dont hit the curve ball very well...when we play them flash ought to know its his turn to step up...we play detroit..billy koch has a great record against them...he should know he's probably closing that series... i actually think would take some of the pressure off of all three and spread it around....plus it gives jerry the flexibility to put each of these three in positions where they are most likely to be successful... why should koch have to close against the twins when they kill him and marte has had great success against them???..it really makes no sense
-
to prove my point..match koch up against the top closers name.............k/9....bb/9....BAA.....WHIP......save pct.......era koch............. 7.9 ... 3.8......244..... 1.33 ..... 84%............ 3.67 percival........ 11 ... 3.9......182..... 1.09 ..... 86% ........... 2.97 wagner........ 12.6.. 3.6......190..... 1.07 ..... 84% ........... 2.66 rivera........... 8.1... 2.6......212..... 1.07 ..... 87% ........... 2.60 sasaki.......... 10.1.. 3.0......201..... 1.08 ..... 85% ........... 3.26 foulke.......... 8.5.... 2.2.....220...... 1.06...... 84% ........... 3.33 nen.............. 9.9... 3.3......227..... 1.21...... 85% ........... 2.98 hoffman....... 10.2.. 2.7.....205..... 1.06...... 89% ........... 2.79 koch just doesnt stack up

i have to disagree...koch isnt good..he's never been good...he's been average most of his career...one good season..two average seasons and a bad season...average.. compare his career stats to the other closers in baseball...k/per 9 innings , WHIP , era , even save pct , he is no where near the top...he's an average closer having a bad year..thank god for marte and flash cause we are gonna need them

if we are gonna pick on miles then im picking on jimenez...if you remember i made a post earlier the week that the real season for the sox starts friday...that all we did against tghe bottom feeders was make sure we didint lose the pennant in april...but the tough teams were coming up starting friday and it would be a good idea to erase all the stats of every player and start keeping them from firday..because it would show when the heat was on who was up to the challenge in his first real test what did jimenez do???..wear the collar for the 3 games..o'fer the entire series... now im not pulling against jimenez and i hope he starts getting on base against the big boys out west coming to town...but this calling cooperstown to see if the jimenez bust is ready is going way overboard..history with jimenez says he will cool off and drop back into the 240 -260 range and when he does he will be miserable...you just cant ignore this guys past...we are all hoping he has grown up and is past that kind of behavior but just turning a blind eye to it wont make it go away if infact it resufaces again... lets see how he reacts this week..will he bounce back with a couple of multi hit games???...good test for him

What would have made it 4 out of 4? i think he hates the dodgers??
-
im not willing to give up on garland yet...im not a big fan of garland's but i couldnt take another klips wells situation..but for this year if he cant pitch with some consistency he either goes to the bullpen or charlotte...we cant live with his growing pains and expect to win the division too...his last start was great but it was against the worst hitting team in the AL (i dont consider the tigers as major league team )....he will have to show me something against the tougher teams out west before id pencil him in all year long ...he needs about 4 or 5 more consecutive good starts and get that era down under 4 before ill rest easy with him on the mound...
-
my choice has always been nick leyva...he did a pretty good job in philly and with the sox has held just about every position possible in our minor league system....

Have you looked at the Red Sox lately and seen how "closer by committee" works? That is basically what you are getting at. there is a reason why the red sox CBC is failing and why the close CBC has failed in the past..its because teams that have tried have had bullpens that s***...look at the red sox pen...there isnt a pitcher in that pen thats better than gary glover..and he mops up for us... using a CBC with 3 guys closing that have proved in the past they are all very capable closers will be much more successful then using a CBC because you have no one who is talented enough to closer in your pen we have a very unique situation..we have 3 pitchers with 3 different types of games that have all closeed in the past and have been very successful..today was a great example of a CBC bullpen...billy koch is supposed to be the number 1 closer but the twins just kill him..meanwhile marte has great success against the twinkies...it makes sense to let marte close out against them...there are teams where the match ups wioll favor flash...so why not let him close those games???

Just wear a "tie" a tie and nothing else ???
-
The term "closer" is WAY overrated. as is trading for "the" closer to put you over the top...closer is the biggest waste of money in baseball imo...id much rather work the metch ups to decide who closes a game... another thing i hate about closers is a manger will stick wioth a closer regaurdless....you can take a 3 run lead into the 9th and your closer gives up 2 runs and walks the beses loaded with no one out and the manager still leaves him in until the game out of reach...with no set closer..if a guy starts out bad you replace him immediately before all hope is lost
-
its not that they cant read MRIs...its that MRIs arnt the tell all that they are made out to be...it took three MRI's to catch sirotka's rotator cuff..then in surgery they found a torn labrum too that wnet undiagnosed..his MRIs were looked at by a bunch of different doctors with all kinds of specialties...no one could see anything out of the ordinary... i HAD 4 MRIs on my neck before i had surgery..and none of them showed the real amount of damage...they're just not that accurate

marte sure did the job today...6 up , 6 down..he still isnt as sharp as last year...but he is getting closer
