I'm sure Soriano could learn CF or RF fairly quickly. It would take some work, but it could happen. Carlos Lee learned to play LF, Craig Biggio learned to play CF, etc. Worse case scenario - we have Sammy Sosa teach Soriano how to play RF. Soriano would give us speed - and we all know that speed kills. Plus, yeah, he would strikeout a lot, but his HR's and RBI's would offset that.

I just try to tell it like it is. If the Sox come back with a similar payroll, it's not only limiting the players we can acquire, it's also sending a bad message to Sox fans, who have made it crystal clear that JR has to adhere to what THEY want in order for them to show up. If he spent an extra 12-15 million, and the club was competitive and fun to watch, not JR or his accountants can honestly tell me they wouldn't get that money back in the long run.

I agree with Yasny. If you make Marte the closer, his arm will be dead by mid-July. Plus, we need him at any given time - he's more valuable that way. BTW, Scott Sullivan filed for free agency.

The two Chicago "baseball experts" on the sportsradio stations were saying that, so take it for what it's worth. I've said it before - Reinsdorf is of the mindset of "you come to the park, and then I'll spend money." The Sox fans are of the mindset of "you spend money, and then we'll come to the park." And we all saw what happened when the Sox spent some extra money. Reinsdorf had better remember that. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, CHAIRMAN. And don't you forget it, either.

If want to make a comparison between Garland and another pitcher, then compare him with Kevin Brown. That's more realistic, since they throw the same pitches. Garland will never have the fastball or curveball Koufax did - not even in his greatest dream. Brown's first 5 years in the majors - 12-9 3.35, 12-10 3.60, 9-12 4.40, 21-11 3.32, and 15-12 3.59. I'm not saying Garland will ever be as good as Kevin Brown, and I've gone on record many times saying Garland is "Mike Morgan II," but I'll give it another year. What the hell. I've given it 32 years so far, what's another 365 days of my life? Garland lacks maturity, and confidence. HOPEFULLY, he'll stick two pencils in his ears, pull upward until he hears a pop, and finally get his head out of his ass this year.

Supposedly, the payroll is going to go up 12-14 million (at least that's what the Chicago media has said). Whether or not that is true remains to be seen.

I don't remember the specific years (since I smoked dope most of the '80s), but I saw Rush, Duran Duran (I'm so ashamed), U2, Flock Of Seagulls (LMAO!), Huey Lewis and the News, Journey, Elton John, Warrant, Motley Crue, and Dio. Most of the time I just went because I wanted to please my first girlfriend (who had a body to die for). Needless to say, the torture of some of those concerts was worth the reward. Phewwww. I need to take a cold shower.

That would be like kicking an old stubborn donkey. Won't do you a bit of good because the old fart is already dead set in his ways... LMAO!!! I loved Frank Thomas as a player all through the 1990's, but this isn't the 1990's anymore. He's mortal now, has no plate recognition anymore, and will be lucky to hit .240 next year. He's turned into Cecil Fielder (the Yankees years). If he leaves, I won't cry. Or even blink. I just wish we could dump him and GIDPaul tomorrow. That would make my decade.

Paying him $5 mil isn't going to work with our finances. Not disagreeing with any of that. Just pissed that our finances are so limited. This is CHICAGO, for cry's sake. The 3rd largest market in the USA. Yet, the White Sox are considered a "middle" or "small" market in terms of payroll. That's bulls***. If Cheapass Reinsdorf doesn't want to spend some money once in a while, then he should sell the team and quit looking at it the way you or I would look at a train set. A toy that you play with once in a while, but don't really care about. Jerry Reinsdorf, 1999 - "I would trade the 6 Bulls championships for a World Series win in a heartbeat." Prove it, miser. Prove it. All talk, no action. Most people wear thick pants, so blowing smoke up our asses isn't as easy as you think.

His 14 million could be spent on two or three really good players, or three or four good players. He hasn't put up "difference maker" numbers, and he's never made a huge difference. He's being paid the salary of a "superstar" and an "impact" player - and he doesn't belong on that list, IMO. The only "impact" he made last year was when he grounded into doubleplay after doubleplay to kill big innings. Keep this in mind - Sammy Sosa is making 17 million a year, right? And we would all agree that he's not worth it - not by a long shot. Well, Maggs will only be making 3 million less than that.
-
Reports are the Yanks are ticked off at Soriano because he is completely in a fog when he's out on the field. Hell, if that's the case, he's already light years ahead of half the Sox team. I once suggested a Maggs/Konerko/prospect deal for Weaver/Johnson. It was a disaster and no one liked it. But Maggs/Konerko for Johnson/Soriano would certainly raise some eyebrows. I don't want Weaver anymore. He has shown that he has no sack. If you can't handle the big pressure (and he hasn't) - I don't want you on my team. Rot in New York, jerk. Soriano would be a great 2b OR CF for us. I mean, he's no Ray Durham, but hey.
-
No one thought that Leo Durocher would join the enemy either ... Plus, Don Zimmer managed and coached with the Red Sox for years, and then ended up with the Yankees. Stranger things have happened.
-
Paul Konerko's real name is Jody Davis Konerko.
-
The Cubs will probably sign him. They love those broken-down, has-been, reclamation project, bargain basement lefties who can barely break glass with their fastballs. Hey, anything to have a lefty in the rotation, right Jim Hendry? :fthecubs

Jerry Manuel deserves an award. "The Cadaver Most In Need Of A Formaldehyde Transfusion." I still can't believe the joy I feel when I think about how he's gone. "It was a nightmare. It really didn't happen. It was a nightmare. It really didn't happen."

Agreed. The guy mocked all the starting pitchers who work out and keep themselves in shape, praised his "rubber arm", and then made the comment that "I'll write a book about how NOT to stay in shape." The next night, he tweaked his back bending over in the 1st inning. What a putz. It couldn't have happened to a bigger jerkoff. I'm going on a whale-watching cruise in San Diego in March - when I see one surface with a Yankees cap, I'll let my wife know that David Wells finally found employment. David Wells. Pfffft. :dips***

As Sandy Koufax once said, "Once I got it through my head that even the best hitters are only successful 30% of the time, I finally said to myself, 'Hey, I'll just throw it over the plate and dare them to hit it. Even the best will fail 2/3 of the time.' You can't shut down batters throwing your second and third best pitch."
-
Cotts biggest problem is that he's "nibbling" too much instead of relying on his great stuff. I really hope that Mark Buehrle could have a few sessions with him and impart his knowledge to the kid. He could be special, and WILL be, if he ever finally relies on his natural ability.
-
Now Manuel is up for a possible Red Sox job? Oh please.
-
I still like Ozzie. Believe me, he would make a huge difference, unlike the comatose cadaver we had in the dugout the last few years. Loser.
-
If Jon Garland wins more than 12 games next year, look up into the sky and pray to God that you don't see 4 giant horsemen riding out of the horizon. I still think he's Mike Morgan II. He'll probably end up at 12-14. His track record precedes him. Million dollar stuff. 5 cent brain.
-
Well, no one knows how to yank a starter in the most inopportune time than Sleepy Manuel, so maybe that's why he's mentioned. He would have yanked Pedro in the 5th inning of Game 7, and the Red Sox probably would have won. There's your reasoning right there.
