  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) I remember writing that Hahn had the easy part of the rebuild done. He traded pieces that had value for other younger pieces that had value. The hard part was always going to be finishing the job. Hahn badly needed Beckham to show he had value , same goes for Paulino, De Aza, Viciedo and Davidson but they all failed and he couldn't trade any value without just creating another hole. Yeah it Sucks. And it goes back to last year with Rios, Crain etc. And this year's possible trade pieces like Jones going down before building that 1st-year-closer value. The team has had horrible luck and timing, on top of some bad choices and frightening performances from the group of guys we'd like to move, and the trade deadline has not yielded as many great chances for improvement as they may have needed. RH will need to get creative.
  2. The actual disappointment will occur if and when we're needlessly subjected to continued everyday AB's for Beckham and Dunn, and losing the opportunity to learn more about the big league viability of numerous prospects. All for the hope of face-saving scraps. So just move on quickly from this scenario and I'll be Ok with it.
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) Makes me sad thinking of how players like Hammel wait until after getting traded to s*** the bed but our schmucks unload their logs all over the linen right at the worst possible time No doubt. Sox have had horrid luck in that regard the past couple of years.
  4. I do expect some positive regression for Abreu, so the Davenport looks good. A meager finishing line of 310/380/645, 48 HR 2 3B 40 2B 136 RBI is all I expect.
  5. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) Would like to see Jake Peter get a promotion to Kanny Jake "the Snake" (can his nickname be anything else?) with his first HR. His stat line is tumescent. Promote that man.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Pen only has to cover 3 innings now Heck, let Hector get a CG,
  7. Only brightside is Hector's on pace to pitch at least 6, so the pen shouldn't get fried.
  8. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) Supposedly marlins are in on Danks. I'll take LHP Nicolino, RHP German and C Austin Barnes. I'm totally sure they'll go for that.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 2m Rain is coming down pretty good 20-plus minutes before first pitch. Tarp has been on field for a bit. Fans scrambling. Detroit/SE Mich. radar doesn't look too scary as far as causing any sizable delay.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) http://cltknightsinsider.blogspot.com/2014...akable-hot.htmlSounds very much like a Steverson influence here: “Well, for me, I’m just trying to look for a good pitch to hit. In the past, I’ve noticed that I’ve walked a lot more, but then if you look back on some of those at-bats I maybe missed some key pitches that I could have done some damage with. “I’ve just been looking to find a good pitch out over the plate that I can drive and if I don’t get that, then I’m fine with taking the walk. A lot of these guys are good pitchers and sometimes it’s best not to get behind and let them go to their nasty stuff. If I can try to be selective in the zone and get something to drive, I try to do that.” And as with so much of life, timing is everything.
  11. Now 11K, 1 BB, 1 H, 0 R for J.B. thru 6 Killing it - puts him back on my radar.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Jose Quintana is closer to a #1 than a #3. This is the current truth. And he seems to be hitting his stride just recently.
  13. QUOTE (newguy @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) He does. We talk about this stuff after every game. Ok, I am going to back out of this discussion for now. Brad doesn't usually like me talking about him with stats & stuff too much. I probably divulged more than he would have liked. He just takes it one ptich at a time & one batter at a time. Thanks again for all your positive comments. I'll go back to being an "observer" of the discussions. Great day to you all. I only needed to see one stat to be sold. 1 BB in 16 IP. He's already a breath of fresh air to the system! Good luck to him and you.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 07:36 AM) Well done, sir. Thanks. I'd really like to see the Hound treated aggressively to make up for a little of the lost time. I still think he has the tools to be an effective long reliever/spot starter type, and possibly as early as June or so of next year. Prior to his still unknown "non-baseball injury" (something embarrassing perhaps?), I thought he might be a candidate for such a role right about now. Control is the occasional bugaboo, and I'd like to see him get with Coop ASAP.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 07:00 AM) Yeah, that was Steve I hope the nice young man has learned that trying too hard to be the first to declare someone a failure, when it goes sideways on you, can make you look like, like ..... what's that word I'm looking for? Also, Conor seems to be taking his bat into the field lately, which is another concern that is being alleviated.
  16. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 05:54 AM) I absolutely support losing in this situation. I read that there was a ruling that it will now be the first 11 picks that are protected in next year's draft due to the Astros' carryover. But still need to finish with one of 10 worst records.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) The return of Lindstrom, maybe Jones and Avi are probably the reason why the Sox will be pretty quiet before the trade deadline. Those 3 guys are like making trades without making them. Things that happen will probably go down in August. Doesn't look like Nate will be part of that, unfortunately. Like you, I was hoping for the Moon, butt Jones' glute issues aren't yet behind him, and are proving to be stubborn pains in the ass. It's put the closer situation for next year in arrears.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Would have liked to add but Thad didn't cooperate.
  19. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) big club beats tigers. minor league system excites. it's been a good night. Good for each of.
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) Wait he tied Jose Abreu? We have to sign that guy Pass. Slider-speed bat they tells me.
  21. Is Jarrett Casey our next LHRP candidate?
  22. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) I was just thinking about the guy over at Minor League Ball who decided he was bad based on watching him for 15 minutes in the batting cages prospectpulse, something or other. Someone should really take him to the woodshed. With the boys from Deliverance.
  23. He's going to finish the year with an OPS over 1000 as a 1st year player.
  24. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) Come on Abreu! Sorry if this was posted already, but Abreu has back to back 18 game hitting streaks, hitting in 36 of his last 37. That's remarkable for a guy with a 300 ISO, or anyone. To me, it means that few hurlers are fooling him for any length of time, and he's doing it while swinging hard. Love this.
