  1. if he recovers fully from this injury, i guess we then would need to shift our focus onto why he wasn't very good last year before the injury, and if that kind of performance will be the norm in 2009 i remember way early into the year in 2008, his fork ball was sick, it even had stoney salivating for a couple months, before it eventually became less sharp
  2. throw salary out the window, and which pitcher would i rather have in our rotation for 2009 javy, without even thinking but if your question is also taking into account salary, prospects, injury concerns among other things... i don't know yet
  3. Danks, Buerhle, Floyd, Colon, Contreras if bartolo looks as good in 2009 as i've seen in some of the videos of him last year, and contreras makes a full recovery, what's not to like about our rotation?
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) People need to completely and utterly forget about Michael Young. USCF is not a good place to hit for average, it's a good place to hit for power. Michael Young's OPS away from Texas during his entire career is .122 points less (.850 at home, .728 on the road), and though I'm not always a huge believer in merely looking at splits to shy away from a player, his contract is so bad that the splits alone make a terrible thought to bring Young into the fold. Add to the fact that he had a down year last year, thanks in large part to a terrible year on the road (.680 OPS), and that he's never had the best defense at any position he played, and that he'll be 32 next year heading into the 1st year of a monster contract (it's important enough to be brought up twice), and Michael Young is the absolute worst move this franchise could make at the current moment. Good thing for Sox fans that it's run by a shrewd GM who doesn't like bringing in monstrosities of contracts and by a fiscally sound ownership group. i posted a thread in diamond club, young agreed to play 3B for the rangers today

  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) I think some of the people in this thread need to take a look at Bartolo's starts last season on MLB.com. He really looked pretty good until he hurt himself BATTING. i posted a couple videos earlier in the thread, i think everyone skimmed over them ;( but yeah, his command and velocity were tops for sure, he looked a hell of a lot better last year than sweaty freddy did his 1st game vs. the mariners in which he won http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_tpl_3_1...cid=mlb&v=3 he pitched against them again later and got shelled
  7. Cooper on M&H: "Colon will not have to compete for a spot in the rotation, if he proves he's healthy" not word for word, but that's what coop said.
  8. does figgins still have his legs for CF though? isn't he getting to his mid 30's?
  9. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) If you say that about every rumor, you would be right most of the time. Every once in a while, a rumor actually happens and that is why I love to think of hot stove scenarios. well I called the figgins deal not happening, just waiting on abreu to fall to someone else who isn't us
  10. command and speed look very good in this video from last year http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200806122897128
  11. we aren't getting abreu or figgins, seriously this isn't going to happen
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) I will miss Dye if we trade him. What a stud. If we trade him for Figgins ... my god. same, i think we all would greatly miss JD he's my favorite player on our team (i know that 'favorite players' are a bit juvenile, but whatever)
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) Wouldn't any team trading for dye have to consider it as dye and two picks considering dye's impending type A status at the end of the year? don't want to derail this thread, so if somebody could answer this in one post how many of our current players will be type-a free agents, assuming we don't resign any of them before their contracts end, and who would those players be?
  14. What would you guys think about someone like Andy Petitte? I noticed he recently rejected the yankees offer to return Perhaps he wants years? He's a great pitcher when healthy
  15. "I'm more set than I think you guys have written and talked about," said Williams with a laugh. "We've got a lot of confidence, but that's not unusual. It's not your job to scout and project players' performance. That's our job, and we'll continue to do that with the best players we put on the field." - Kenny Williams lol
  16. My favorite TCQ highlight (vs. Twins @ The Dome): http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200807313228848
  17. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) Comcast Chicago is 410 and all I have seen is the 2004 Boston review. I have the Digital Classic Package so I am happy. It's Ch.516 down here in the Peoria area, but it says not authorized for me, guess I'll have to update my plan
  18. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) From what previous fights of either fighter do you see Pac having the power to knockout "Pretty Boy". Pac can thump, but he's no Hatton or other guys for one punch power, and Floyd doesen't take many, but he has shown that a glass jaw is not one of his characteristics. Pac Man is a naturally smaller guy then most of PBF's past opponents as well. watch the PBF vs Judah fight, Judah knocked him down hard, but the referee protected floyd with a slip call floyd doesn't get hit enough in the face for anyone to claim that he doesn't have a glass jaw, but that crack Judah gave him Fight: Knock Down (called slip): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-Ta5IN5Qec he doesn't even hit him hard, and it almost caused floyd to fall back on his ass (holding himself up off the canvas with his right glove = by rule is a knock down)
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) Cabrera was an idiot to not accept arbitration IMO....and he would have made this team better despite what a lot of people feel about him. i don't disagree with the part about him being an idiot for not accepting arb, however i disagree that he would have made our 2009 roster better considering we're basically rebuilding at a majority of the positions and 2 out of 5 in the rotation
  20. chone figgins for jermaine would be f***ing terrible
