QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) Almost a must win for Mexico against the French tomorrow. France will get 3 points from South Africa. Mexico needs to get to 4 points before their group finale because I'm sure Uruguay will play for that tie. Yeah, I think Mexico can hang with the French though. Uruguay has no reason to play for a tie in their last game. Their +3 goal differential will likely hold up for 1st if they win or 2nd if they lose. Of course, a tie in the Mexico/France game changes that. I'm hoping RSA is alive with a realistic chance in the final game at least. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) They still didn't really have any clear cut chances. Sure they had lots of shots on goals, but no chances where you thought, oh man they should have scored there. I would have put Fabregas on for Busquets and played Alonso deeper myself. Also so much for my South Africa prediction. I think Spain's problem was that they didn't look towards goal. They were waiting for a perfect chance instead of just taking a shot. Pique I think had an open shot in the box that went straight at the keeper, they had that rip go off the bar. They had chances, just needed to finish. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Now Jerry Jones, who very well could be one of the people that helped save the Big 12, wants Notre Dame and Arkansas. I certainly wouldn't hate it. ND would obviously have a much easier road to a BCS berth, hinging largely on the fact that they stop sucking, they would have to go through a division that would be ISU, Mizzou, Kansas, Kansas State and one of OU/OSU/Ark. Notre Dame seems pretty comparable to Nebraska. Fallen superpower. They wouldn't run the division. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) Can't believe they didn't use Fabregas at all. That sort of game, he is the perfect player to use to thread a pass through, he pretty much has to put up with opposing teams doing that against Arsenal most weeks. I don't think they needed help threading the pass. They needed someone to finish. Torres for 90 is what they needed. -
QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) Remenowsky should be ready for AA in the 2nd half. Thoughts?? A few people said the same thing a year ago when he was putting up better numbers in Low A. His stats say he should be pushed, but that doesn't mean it will happen.

At least we have a losing team that scored a goal. It was all 1-1 or 0-0 draws and shutout wins before North Korea salvaged a late consolation goal. Disappointing start to the cup. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 01:15 AM) Don't forget that we are now rid of Greg McDermott. Hope lives. Fair. Iowa State is a bigger program than their recent success, but they would have a tough time starting up in a 10 team league with no easy out. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Boone Pickens might be the only person associated with the possibly departing teams that said "I don't want to go off and leave Iowa State, Kansas State or Baylor" I saw that video. He hates Missouri, which actually makes me happy. Hopefully we can finally leave this awful conference in the coming years. -
Thanks guys. The US tie was a nice birthday present.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) I don't like the term "outclassed" thought. It's a bad matchup. Both teams play a very different style. True. I expected Serbia to be the superior team and win the game unless Ghana scored on a set piece or got a Green like break. They weren't the superior team in any way. Semantics. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Ghana looked more athletic, but I wouldn't say the looked entirely the better side. Krasic and Zigic had the 2 best chances by far next to Ghana's missed diving header which would have been tough either way. I think Ghana hit a post too. The stats look pretty even so I guess my surprise was that Ghana was not outclassed by Serbia. Serbia certainly wasn't the better team and I thought they would be a stronger side than their performance from today forgetting the last 20 minutes. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:27 AM) After watching this game, the US should move onto the second round. If not then it will be a major failure. Completely agree. Anything less than 4 points in the next 2 matches would be an embarrassment. That would bring the US' total to 5, which if England wins their next 2 as expected, gets the US through. I actually thought Algeria was the better team, but the red card was devastating. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) I'm absolutely devastated. On the verge of tears. I feel bad about my comment in the other thread now, but I was shocked that Ghana actually looked the better side. Serbia HAS to get a result against Germany and beat Australia. If they only get a draw against Germany they're still on the bubble with a win over Australia. Pretty shocking start, but this is a really tough group. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Another name I'm hearing now for the SEC is Missouri, which I find interesting. I hadn't ever thought of them before, but I'd be okay with them too. This rumor has been amusing to me. It seems Big Ten fans think they are too good for Missouri, but the higher prestige, more arrogant fan bases of the SEC seem to want Missouri. Just another weird cog in this extremely weird saga. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 11:01 PM) World Cup, by a mile and a half. Yeah because when you get a red card and a penalty against you it's pretty hard to win. Sorry, had to. I really don't think the World Cup applies because it's such a different competition.

USA! Great freaking result. England's offensive strategy was peculiar. Their wingers were able to get open on the outside, but the US was winning most of the balls in the air. I think England's best strategy would be to fake a play to the outside and rip a shot from 20 or so yards out. Work it through the middle. Maybe Howard's great saves got in their heads. He was superb with his rebound control. -

Findley starting ahead of Buddle. Bradley going out on a limb there. Buddle scores 2 in the Australia game and sits for Findley who couldn't finish to save his life in that game. -
You guys are talking like the season is over and you're in the super regionals. You should be excited your underachieving team is still alive.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) True, but even Pienaar wasn't very good at all today and they were still very competitive. And with the crowd behind them, I think they'll go onto win against Uruguay (Australians hate Uruguay when it comes to Soccer BTW). I don't. Both teams pulled out draws against better teams. Forlan is extremely dangerous up front. I think Uruguay advances from the group. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) If they're not going to play him this year or soon, frankly, the right move is to trade him to a team for bullpen help. They should trade someone. It's also worth noting that Colvin is hitting .176 vs. lefties and has been used primarily against righties because of this. He doesn't hit near .300 as a full time starter, especially not with that ugly K rate.

QUOTE (zenryan @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) This team is so frustrating. I really cant wait until the season is over. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) ^ for the Noles I'll miss Holt and McGee though. Poor babies made the super regionals. Whoa is me, can't wait until we're not winning a regional. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Group A is going to come down to whoever can score a goal. France is so brutal to watch. I was starting to think they'd get a typical late winner even before that red. At least it sets up for an exciting final day of matches in that group. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) I really wonder how all of this will impact television contracts. Will this be effective this coming season? Seems like there's no way they can do that. Boise's move officially will take effect in 2011. Nebraska is trying to get it done by then. There's no chance it takes effect this upcoming season. -

Boise officially to Mountain West. Link The dominoes are falling. This one changes some of the MWC scenarios, but I think is also more proof that other moves are on the way. MWC would have been holding out for Big 12 rejects if possible otherwise. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 12:01 PM) South Africa can beat Uruguay IMO. Uruguay have Forlan and Suarez, but if you can stop those 2 they don't have much else. Yeah, but really South Africa doesn't have much outside of Pienaar. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) If you are behind the goalkeeper even if there's a guy on the line, it's still off-side. The announcers didn't even mention that rule, but it was referenced in the studio at halftime. Horrible rule IMO. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) college kids sleep until noon, and begin thinking about going out at 10pm. I'm not certain it is that big of a deal competitively. True, but athletes usually don't get that luxury with workouts and practices often before 8 am.
