  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 17, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Buch to extended spring training. Someone will be demoted from W-S, maybe one of their 14 pitchers. Odd. Edwards was the pitcher moved to Birmingham.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) No more than they were "deflated" last year by playing in Birmingham, one of the toughest hitters' parks in the minors. While you should be right, his splits last year were very even. This year he has a 1.074 OPS at home and a .594 on the road. It's still early for h/a splits to be accurate, but it'd be nice to see that away number go up.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ May 16, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) They stopped the series because it got too violent and personal between the teams and fans. Notre Dame has that effect on people. Something about entitlement and being in Indiana. Pretty laughable.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 16, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) I really like seeing Viciedo develop power. He's on pace for a great year, assuming that k-rate works itself out. His K rate is fine. It's only at 24% right now and that's after an awful April. He's getting hot and the K rate is going closer to his normal rate. He was under 20% last year. Dating back to April 26 he has 12 K for a 17.1% K rate. This is why you wait until at least 150 PA before looking too much into Ks.
  5. Knights @ Scranton-Wilkes Barre Marquez with another quality start, Viciedo with HR #8. Montgomery @ Barons Long dominating Dash @ Lynchburg Nate Jones Hickory @ Intimidators Collop
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Perhaps if the Top 25 was done today, he'd be between 8-16, somewhere in that range, based solely on April/May results....? He's probably toward the back end of that range. I don't think he should crack the top 10. If he hits over .300 in AA this year he probably has to make the top 10 in our system.
  7. HR #8 from Flowers and homers #5 and 6 from Trayce Thompson.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 11, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) Eduardo Escobar quietly has put up a great month of May that is being overshadowed by Short's unconscious hitting. Yeah, but Escobar still isn't walking much and the early power hasn't lasted. I still like the idea of an above average SS in the system though. I'm curious what the h/a splits are for that team. They have a lot of guys killing the ball. Escobar is actually hitting better away from home by quite a bit. I'm glad to see we can't blame the park for his improvement this year.
  9. Early catching stats It is really hard to evaluate the defensive ability of a catcher, especially for us when we don't see the players often enough if ever. Defensive statistics like UZR have become popular, but don't apply to catchers. Since the White Sox have three catchers that were in our top 11 prospects, I wanted to keep track of whatever catching stats I could. Take a look at the results. more...
  10. Morel by a lot. He is above average at 3rd while Gilmore is probably not going to stick at the position. Plus Morel has shown more power. If Gilmore can improve his defense to stay at 3rd and develop some power it might be close. Neither are out of the question, but I didn't hesitate to take Morel.
  11. BB&T Park has to be an absolute bandbox with the numbers that offense is putting up. Maybe it's not, but man, those are some numbers... Short now 4-4. Kid is out of his mind.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) I should note though, in his last 10 games, he has only 4 K's in 37 AB, for a 10.8% rate, which is fine. Much better than the 31.7% he was at before then. Regression to the mean. Strikeouts were not a problem for him last year. It was hard to believe he would strike out that much more this year.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Maybe he can be like DeLosSantos and emerge from relative obscurity into a top 4-6 prospect in the system. Colligan, I'm really like what he has shown so far as well... Short has been in the organization since 2008 so he's a different case than DLS. DLS made his pro debut straight in Kanny and did well there. QUOTE (scenario @ May 6, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) Eduardo Escobar is 8 for 18 over his last 4 games. He sure is a streaky hitter. I'm liking the improvement so far. A guy like him only needs to put up a .700 OPS to be useful.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) BTW, can Brandon Short play CF? Just corner OF? Hasn't he played infield before at some point in his career, before he came to the Sox? Short is certainly fast enough to play center. I'm not sure about his ability to read balls and take routes. He has played CF, but he's been at the same level as Justin Greene for a while so he has been pushed off the position. As for Shelby, I don't think he's going to be as good as most of the comparisons. Like OzzieBall said, he's likely a bench player. I have my doubts about him actually pulling that off.
  15. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 5, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) I saw Colligan up close and personal in college against Missouri for a few years...boy can rake. Fast as hell and can hit it a mile. Ha, you saw the same series I did. Colligan looked good in Columbia, that's for sure.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) You really had to figure he would bounce back. Most of those numbers were from one bad start. To be fair, it was mostly from 2 starts. 2 isn't quite to the point of worry, but maybe 'concern.' Either way, all is well after tonight.
  17. Dayan Viciedo's slow starts Cuban prospect Dayan Viciedo has been a disappointment early in his professional career, but that mostly stems from extremely high expectations. Of course, when the White Sox signed him to a $10 million contract that was bound to happen. He got off to a horrible start last year in AA Birmingham, but gradually improved. He is off to another slow start this year, but how does it stack up to what we saw last year? Are there signs of improvement? more...
  18. A buddy of mine saw Melville pitch when he came to town when I was at school. He actually watched him with the Royals scout. If I remember he had some concerns about his delivery in terms of repeating it. They took him anyway, but that's probably why he's struggling with his control. Hard not to like his arm though.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 1, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) John Doyle, old for his level, but he sure has looked impressive. He goes by Terry and if he keeps pitching like this you'll be forced to know it.
  20. Knights @ Columbus Marquez Huntsville @ Barons Long Dash @ Wilmington Edwards Lakewood @ Intimidators Serafin
  21. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Finally a good start for Sauer 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 7 SO, 12 GO/2 FO. There we go. He sure is capable of some pretty lines when he is on. I wonder what the problem was.
  22. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) Superior power?? Please. Escobar has 1 more extra base hit on the season in the exact same number of at-bats (81). (Meanwhile, Gilmore has 12 more hits.) Superior patience?? Escobar has a grand total of 2 more walks... and he's struck out 4 more times than Gilmore. Plus Gilmore is 6'3" 195 lbs... Escobar is 5'10" and 150 pounds. Extremely doubtful that Escobar will EVER have anywhere near the power Gilmore does. I just mentioned it because Gilmore is on fire, but he's hitting for almost no power. Escobar isn't supposed to hit for power, but is matching Gilmore's. Considering Escobar plays plus defense at SS while Gilmore plays poor to mediocre defense at 3B I'd rather have Escobar as a prospect (still). QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) What the hell? Did dan just reference a Saber stat? I think Ozzieball is having quite the influence on you. Ha and I screwed it up. ISO is just SLG-AVG. Not too advanced. In reality ISO is just the faster way to say 'hitting for more power.'
  23. Eduardo Escobar has a higher ISO than Jon Gilmore.
  24. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) Jordan Cheatham has been promoted to Winston-Salem. Does this mean Brady Shoemaker goes back to Kannapolis? Yes.
  25. Man, what's with all these early day games lately? I like it, but it's weird.
