  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Florida doesn't deserve the love, especially over better potential teams like Illinois (who should be in the 10-15 range). Ditto for UNC, who may have all the talent in the world, but talent means nothing if they don't mesh (see: UNC, 2009-2010). Kansas and Kentucky will be lucky to be in the top 25, let alone the top 10. Too much talent leaving. It's interesting that UNC's talent isn't supposed to mesh because it didn't last year, but Illinois' is supposed to despite not meshing last year either. Both teams will be better, but it's hard to pick against UNC with SO much talent again. Kansas will be fine as has been said. They're the early favorite to win the Big 12 again. They're so deep and Collins is quite overrated, they won't miss him too much.
  2. Anyone else have the Cards-Reds game blacked out on ESPN? The White Sox blackout on ESPN2 I get, but there is no good reason I shouldn't be able to watch a game in Cincinnati.
  3. I was hoping to see this today. Good stuff as always!
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) I thought Hynick was actually released a couple of weeks ago? He was outrighted to Charlotte. He's off the 40-man roster, but he's still in the org. as far as I can tell.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) I'm curious as to where Brandon Hynick, Brian Omogrosso, Scott Elarton and Derek Rodriguez are. I imagine that most of them are in extended spring training due to rust (Elarton) or recovery from injury (Omogrosso and Hynick), but D-Rod's omission is curious. Barons use the DH, Lee Cruz would fit that role perfectly and provide depth in the outfield. He's on the roster, AL.com always makes errors in the Barons related stories. As Dan and I have discussed... I saw in one of Scott Merkin's articles that Elarton is in fact at extended spring training. As for the rest, I'm less sure. Omogrosso might be one of those rookie ball rehab guys. He may be healthy, but his stuff has to come back.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) Is Griffith throwing yet after surgery? He threw last year starting in rookie ball in June. There's something a bit off with the Barons' roster. There's only 23 players, more notably only 11 position players. Someone like Lee Cruz or another utility organizational player is probably on the roster as well. As for Nunez, it has to be rare to have a reliever actually pitch in the Majors and the next year go back to the minors to start.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) You really think Morgan would compare himself to a white player? Ha I was thinking that it's odd that Morgan's comparisons went across race. Is anyone as annoyed as I am by the lights system ESPN has for balls, strikes and outs? How is that preferred over the actual numbers?
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) I'm pretty sure if Duke wins, I win the bracket. You will not. Someone had Duke in the final. You will get 2nd.
  9. Yeah, these teams f***ing suck.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 12:21 AM) My boy Nate Jones going (back) to the rotation. I'll definitely be following his progress as a starter, as I know the sox really like him. That's quite interesting. Especially because from the press release it looks like Gregory Infante will start the year in the bullpen. Both moves are interesting.
  11. Also fairly sure this is Winston-Salem's opening day roster. It looks right. Dash roster
  12. 2010 FutureSox Preview: Centerfielders The White Sox have named their 25-man roster for Opening Day and they've played their last game in Glendale. Our season preview series is also coming to a close. We finish by taking a look at the centerfielders of the minor league system. It's a deep group of talented athletes.
  13. Organization preview and 10 prospects to watch from whitesox.com
  14. Mizzou just beat Purdue 22-14 to move to 14-8. Yes, 22-14. There were 11 errors in the game (8 by Purdue) and 10 HR (5 by each team). Purdue scored 5 in the top of the first gave up 5 right back in the bottom half and trailed 21-6 after 5 innings.
  15. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) 1. That was the University of Minnesota Gophers. 2. They play outside every year. Tough crowd. Clearly, Minnesota was a play on words. The title was technically correct, thus the joke, and the bit about being outside was clearly sarcasm.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) Has anyone regular poster come back here since their team was eliminated? Ha! I'm still looking for Jimbo after he kept declaring his team national champs starting in November.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) I would be shocked if a flash deal goes through. But, i mean, the multi tasking and stuff should be implemented soon. Yeah, Jobs has openly bashed flash and it does wreck havoc on Macs. I'll probably buy a tablet when the 2nd generation of this current wave of devices comes out. I don't need to gamble on picking the winner when I can just wait for popular opinion to show the way.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) Three things...Gartrell struck out a lot of the time looking. He was always seeing 7-8 pitches an at bat, so he was being very selective. So his strikeout rate isn't actually that bad. That is not a picture of Christian Marrero, that's Javier Colina. And, John Shelby was thrust into the leadoff roll at the start of 2009. I think that's what caused him to struggle, going from the middle of the order to the top. I didn't say Gartrell doesn't have patience at the plate, I just said he strikes out a lot. He drew a lot of walks when he was in Birmingham. Tell the Birmingham News that that's not Marrero. It's not a picture of his batting stance, he's warming up.
  19. 2010 FutureSox Preview: Corner Outfielders The White Sox have a deep group of corner outfielders, but only one has big time talent. Read what we think of him and the rest of the corner outfield prospects.
  20. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) I think you should be able to see it somewhere on the site... Off the top of my head, I think it's Longoria, Choo, Pena, Grienke and Jurrjens. Oh I found it. I was looking around and didn't know where they were listed. Thanks.
  21. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) While I appreciated Bell's candor, I found this assesssment to be one that offers a thoroughly depresssing view of the future for this organization. I was worried about Tyler Flowers' loopy swing when I watched him late last year, and I do not get at all excited when I hear superlatives like "super utility player", "situational guy", "great hands", and "best defensive centerfielder (read: can't hit)" used to describe our supposed "better" prospects. I will say this again and repeatedly....when this organization wants to take the drafting and development of it's players seriously, that will be all right by me. Until then, we will be choking ourselves by overspending for replacement level talent. Hiring Buddy Bell and and getting rid of Dave Wilder and Duane Schafer was a good start but is it enough? In fairness he said Bellamy was better than a situational guy. No one is saying it's a great system so I don't know why you need to read too much into phrases to figure that out.
  22. 2010 FutureSox Preview: Middle Infielders The White Sox don't have a lot of depth at middle infield, but let's take a look at the few that could make an impact in the coming years.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) He is a tremendous defensive player. Yes. You've seen him in person more than I have, but having seen him myself I know it's not hype. I wouldn't say best in minors because I haven't seen everybody else, but he's certainly a very good CFer.
