Northwestern shot 2-18 from 3 in the first half and is only down 3. That's impressive.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) On a side note, didn't Edwards have tommy john surgery in 08? if so it usually takes more than a full season to come back from that type of procedure and we should see what he's really got this year. maybe something to look forward to. I'm pretty sure that's what it was, so yes his 2009 was good considering he was probably not 100% the whole year. His control was great, but his K rate was scary low. He could be worth watching, but he was awfully mediocre before the injury. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) I hope Holmberg improve velocity on his FB and also his secondary pitches. His secondary pitches are already pretty good, I think the biggest thing is his velocity and consistency. I would expect a young pitcher to become more consistent, but the velocity is up in the air. It was a solid pick for the upside and the fact that he has so many pitches for such a young age.

He'll be in the relievers section. BA has mentioned that he could be a starter, but also that they think the Sox see him as a reliever.

2010 Preview: Left-handed Starting Pitchers It's back to our season previews. We go from what is arguably the deepest position in the system, catcher, to one of the thinnest, left-handed starting pitching. Let's take a look at what few prospect the Sox have at the position.

There was a lot of buzz on Silverio a couple years ago, but he was signed during the signing bonus scandal period so after he struggled in the Appy League people assumed he was another over hyped foreign signee. People seem to be taking the wait and see approach. I'm sure many will get back on the bandwagon this year if he does well in rookie ball. I believe the age rumors were wrong, but there were rumors that he had to play in the DSL because he had visa issues. It's been a weird series of events around this kid, that's for sure.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) You have to give the organization a lot of credit for the drastic (and very much needed) change in draft philosophy. Absolutely, credit Doug Laumann. He has done well in his 2 years back in charge as director of amateur scouting. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) Yeah. The '08 draft should go down as one of the best and deepest in quite some time. No real consensus best player. Although I will say if the Pirates called and offered Alvarez for Beckham I'd be the first to volunteer to drive GB to the airport. I know I'd still take Smoak over Beckham, that's how good that draft class is.

St. Mary's locks up their spot, likely costing a bubble spot to someone else. Ironically, the win over Gonzaga is pretty much enough to get them in without the auto bid anyway. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) Is Siena considered a tourney team if they lose? Looking around a bit, most things on ESPN like Bubble Watch and Bracket Math don't have them as an at-large team should they lose. Their resume is basically the same as St. Mary's. At the very least it would be another team to consider for the bubble. -
Kansas over Baylor in the final.

So is there any debate that K state is the most overrated team in the country? Iowa State takes them down in Manhattan. Top 2 seeds don’t lose to the 11th place team in the conference at home. Brackins was fouled out before overtime too. That’s just pathetic and it makes me happy to see K State fail. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I just paid for the MLB At Bat app for my I phone. The price went up to $14.99. Greedy rat b*****ds... Is it any good? Seems pricey for how much I'd use it. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) If you take all of the worst things about the second teams in cities (Sox - no respect, Mets - constantly disappointing, Clippers - perennial losers), and put them into one football team, you get the Buffalo Bills. Except the Bills have fan support and I don't remember the Clippers making the NBA Finals in my lifetime. -
QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) Bad luck on the goals allowed but it seems like that is the norm for this team for some reason. Yep, I swear they get more red cards and allow more penalties than anyone. I'm not even questioning the call (it was a stupid foul though), but it just seems to always happen to them.

Nice goal there to get within 2-1. Even if the US can't pull out a draw here they've looked solid. Neither of the goals for Netherlands were good chances, a dumb penalty and bad luck on that deflection. Beasley really impressed me (see what happens when he's not playing defender Bob Bradley?).

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Wow, Iowa State about to beat Mizzou? That was a brutal game by both teams for 35 minutes. Zaire Taylor is called Mr. Coffee by a lot of Mizzou fans because he is a closer and coffee is for closers. He hit 3 sick shots to keep Mizzou in and eventually win that game. Unreal. -

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) Except for it gives you a chance to get you comfortable with your team. These guys just came together recently. They need a feeling out period. Canada wouldn't win without Luongo back there and they needed the group stage to figure that out. Whos to say that Canada wouldn't have won the first game between the two teams if they had their best goaltender in. That's a fair point, but Luongo actually didn't play well in the final. It would be nice to see a summit series type thing with rotating home ice in the offseason. There would be enough interest in this country for once. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) No different than regular season NFL into the playoffs or the NCAA basketball tournament. Regular season/ "group play" sets your seeding and it's single-elimination from there. Right, but those leagues mentioned actually eliminate teams after the season. Everyone made the knockout phase and the bye turned out to be overrated so group play is almost entirely worthless. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:50 AM) Suddenly Arsenal I think may actually end up winning it all. They've already play Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool twice already. I don't think Arsenal is as good as the others though. They'll slip up along the way.

So everyone slobbered over Canada all tournament, but I don't think you can make an argument that Canada was actually better throughout this tournament. They were pathetic in the group play, and no better than the US in the knockout phase. Regardless, the format is screwed up when the team with the best record throughout the tournament has to settle for silver and a team that couldn't beat Switzerland in regulation gets gold. -

I'm sorry but no one here will care tomorrow either way except for the 25 real hockey fans and the players. This is everything to the Canucks. No one here will care tomorrow? Tell that to the 1980 team. -

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) Yeah I'm really finding myself rooting for Canada. They care about this. Americans don't give a s***. They just like beating Canada. Stop being anti-conformity and have some pride in your country.
