QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 08:58 AM) They could hit Kanny by mid season, but I was giving a conservative projection for them to start 2010. Or, they may start in Kanny, then head out to Great Falls in June. I think the Sox will give both a look at Kannapolis to start. They have a history of sending high draft/prospects to Kanny to start the year and if they struggle, send them down to Great Falls (Chris Carter, Fransisco Hernandez). QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) If they're in rookie ball they won't start until mid season. I think Holmberg is the more prepared of the two for Low-A, Thompson could get abused if he starts with Kannapolis. Thompson probably would be crushed in Kanny, but that doesn't mean the Sox wouldn't give him a look there. Holmberg probably should start in Kanny, Thompson you could go either way depending on his offseason development.

Good stuff, but I have a feeling Thompson and Holmberg will start in Kannapolis.

QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) Then again, it could just be speculation by Merkin on where Mitchell will end up. It's possible. No disrespect to Merkin, but I'll believe it when I see it.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) He also had a .453! BABIP and a 34.8! K%. He was a combination of very lucky and bad and it leaves everything thinking that he was actually good. The BB% was very good (16.5%), but that's it. Luck adjusted line? .239/.371/.361. It is interesting seeing Mitchell go from a guy that was somewhat off the draft radar, then the Sox took him late 1st and people said that was where he belonged. Suddenly he is a near-consensus top 100 prospect. I'm not sure how that happened. Maybe it was his great CWS showing, maybe he just went unnoticed for so long. I'm not saying he isn't a very good prospect with big upside, but it seems like perception changed simply by Mitchell 'growing on' some. That said, I think you're too harsh. I would expect his BABIP to be a little higher than normal throughout his career due to his speed. Throw in weaker defenses in low-A and you have two reasons to expect a higher BABIP. So, yes, it appears he still got a little lucky and yes, he struck out too much. However, I don't think you can say he should have hit .240.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) It'd be different if Finland was on the level of Russia, and Finland actually had any kind of player come to play the sport of hockey in the 1st period. But this is a different caliber of beatdown. This game was over in 15 minutes, you can't say that about the Russia game. It's not like Russia showed up in the first either. -
When is the deadline to name your keepers?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) Is he starting in A+, or do you guys think AA? I think AA is where he will start, and if not, he will be there before the summer. I have no insider knowledge on this, but I'd be pretty surprised if he started in AA. That seems too fast.

Sweden was the much better team too. It's a shame. Sweden out shot them 29-14. 4 goals from 14 shots? Wow. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) Maturity of chronologic age and approach at the plate don't necessarily go together. However, he is older and should be more advanced and I think he is. (I'm trying to deadpan the dig because it was a good one ) You're right though. Morel does seem to be more polished, but I think people need a better perspective on Viciedo though. It's hard to compare them because Viciedo was playing at a higher level while being 2 years younger. The AFL would have been a great opportunity to see how far Viciedo has come and it just turned into a showcase for Morel.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) I still like Morel from what I've seen. He has a better more mature approach at the plate than Viciedo and will be a better overall on defense as well. The only thing I think Viciedo does better than Morel is power. Morel should have a more mature approach at the plate, he's 2 years older.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) I think we're the one place that still puts Viciedo over Morel at this point. Baseball Prospects and Diamond Futures also have Viciedo higher.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) It would be like arguing that the US doesnt have the best basketball team, because they didnt win every medal. I don't care about this argument, but no one in hockey has matched the dominance of USA basketball. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Yeah, only the opener and special occasions. I'm in the same boat as you, when I first saw it I was excited. But now I'm worried UNC will become the Oregon of the East. Screw that, Oregon's jerseys are badass. College football is loaded with overrated jerseys (Penn State, Alabama, Oklahoma- they're boring!), I like the variety. I don't want a white jersey with one color and someone to call it 'classic' just because they've had the same boring crap for 50+ years. Age doesn't make it good. That helmet looks sweet, but it will need a decent jersey to go with it. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) Actually I may have screwed up my previous post. It looks like if Sweden beats Finland in OT then Russia will actually be the 4th seed as Sweden would have more points than Russia and Finland would have a better goal differential. So lets just hope Sweden wins in regulation. Unless I misunderstood this, Russia is locked into a top 3 seed for winning their group. The asterisk for position in group is for the tiebreakers within that. -

2010 Preview: Catchers White Sox pitchers and catchers reported today! This means it's officially time to start thinking about baseball season. FutureSox is going to breakdown each position in the minor league system to gear up for the regular season, starting with the catchers. The Sox have a deep crew of backstop prospects going into 2010, so what can we expect from them? more...

Mizzou beat Washington 17-6 tonight. They scored 15 unanswered runs. 1-1 after losing to Gonzaga in the opener. They have an all freshmen outfield so it's going to be a crazy year. Mizzou has been to 7 straight regionals, but this will be the first time since 2004 that they won't have a 1st rounder starting on Friday nights and they lost a lot of talent from last year's team. They're bringing in a top 25 class and have a solid bullpen coming back, but they're going to need a lot of newcomers to step up.

I just yelled at the TV for 15 seconds because Vandy decided to take a 3 down 1 with less than 10 seconds to go. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?! -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) I've be scouring the front office staffs for minor league teams, so far I haven't stumbled upon his name. Found it...kind of. Obviously old if you know the replacement, but it means he's not in baseball this year.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Bad news, Ed Collari is not working for the Dash anymore. He's been replaced by some guy named Alex Vispoli. I'm not surprised though, he had implied to me that he was thinking about changing jobs after last year. Hopefully this new guy will be as helpful as Ed. Any idea what he's doing now? Is he working for another team or did get a different job altogether?

Really exciting stuff between Switzerland and Canada. At least the Swiss have a point to show for that great effort. Probably will end up being the game of the first round. -

Wall got a goaltending to be called a clean block in OT. It's just brutal how badly refs officiate good teams. -
Baseball Intellect on the White Sox farm system. Pretty fair prospect rankings.
