  1. I'd be interested, but I'd like to found out how the league is run before officially saying yes.
  2. Is it just me or is 2 and a half weeks not that outrageous? A bit long maybe, but newsworthy, no.
  3. Charlotte is up 9-4 in the 8th in Louisville. Fields and Young go yard. Bentz went 3 innings in the spot start. Barons lost 2-0. They were limited to just 5 hits. Liotta with another solid start. Box Score Hogs lost 7-3. 2 hits each for Mercedes and Hansen. Torres scuffled in the start. Box Score Kanny lost 8-3. Hernandez went 3-3. Rodriguez with a so-so start. Box Score
  4. Flores started his 2006 season in Kannapolis last night going 5 innings and getting a no decision. He struck out 3 while walking 2 and giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Update: Flores has made 7 appearances, one start. He doesn't have a decision with a 4.67 ERA. Update 2: He made his first start of the season June 13th for Kannapolis. 5 IP, 4 R, 3 K, 0 BB, 8 hits was good for a win in his first decision of the season.
  5. Carter struggled in Kanny (.130, .231, .261) with 1 HR, 5 RBI, and 4 runs. In 46 at-bats he had 5 walks and 17 strikeouts. He was sent down to extended spring training. June 25 Update: Carter hit a walk off 3 run HR to finish a 5 run rally in the bottom of the 9th to lead Great Falls to a 9-8 win tonight. Carter was 4-4 on the day with a double, a HR, 4 RBI, and a walk. He is now 12-22 for Great Falls this year with 3 HR, 9 RBI, 3 runs, 4 walks, and 5 Ks in 6 games. The K rate is still slightly high, but he is putting up great production so far. July 6 Update: Carter continues to mash Pioneer League pitching. He's hitting .364 (20/55) with 6 HR, 19 RBI, 4 2B, 12 R, 10 BB, 11 K. He leads the team in HR (three times the next highest), RBI (more than twice as much as the next highest), runs scored, and walks. Carter is the league leader in slugging (.764), OPS (1.226), total bases (42), RBI (19), HR (6, no one else even has 3). Talk about domination, if Carter keeps this up a 2nd chance in Kanny might not be out of the question. End of Season Update: Carter struggled at the end of the season, but still had good overall numbers at Great Falls. He remains one of the better hitting prospects in the system. His final Great Falls numbers ranked him in the top 10 in the league in 6 categories (2nd in slugging, 4th in OPS, t-1st in total bases, 3rd in RBI, 1st in HR, and 5th in doubles).
  6. Ok minor league stat geeks, it's finally here. Minor League Splits from brewcrewball.com. This site is absolutely amazing. There are splits for every minor league player. It's very impressive and useful. Good thing I found this after finals so I can happily waste time on this site without consequence heh. Enjoy. Interesting things I've noticed so far: Lumsden, Gio, and Haigwood all have done well against righties this year while lefties are hitting above .300 against them. Josh Fields is pounding righties (.356, .415, .492) while struggling against lefties. In case of injury he might be ready to face righties while the Sox could have use a utility guy against lefties. Anderson Gomes is 2-27 against lefties. Lefties are 1-31 against Jay Marshall with 12 K, 0 BBs, and 1 HBP.
  7. Collaro 3-4 with 3 doubles for Birmingham tonight, that's nice. I really want to see him to do well.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) They think that this draft may see a record for collegiate pitchers taken. My hope is that Max Scherzer somehow slides big time. He's a hell of a pitcher (Mizzu) but has had some minor injuries this year. Mix that with him maybe fronting and asking for a lot of money (not ridiculous money) and who knows. Scherzer is a total stud but he has not pitched much lately. He missed a few starts due to shoulder stiffness or something (basically overwork) and has been in and out of the rotation since. Even when he has been pitching he hasn't been going deep into games. I would love for the Sox to land him because he just blows away college hitters with his fastball and has decent secondary pitches that have the look of pitches that can develop into something better. I don't think he will fall to 29 though because he was on a short list for the Royals #1 pick a while ago.
  9. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) Great job. I do have one suggestion, perhaps in the rankings where the Player's age and Position is listed, also list the year and round they were drafted. Yeah, that's a good idea and I think we've done that before. We got lazy with the formatting because we didn't want the article to come out 2 or 3 weeks later like we've done before.
  10. Whisler did hit at Kanny his rookie year a bit and did decently.
  11. What about Rafael Flores?
  12. Carter is starting 2006 with the Intimidators. He has played 2 games at DH, 1 at 1st batting 4th, 5th, and 6th in his 3 games.
  13. Knights Box Liotta, Egbert, and Derek Rodriguez making the opening day starts.
  14. I'm going, I can't wait.
  15. They've been a 2nd half team all tournament. They should be fine.
  16. The question is why ASU? Was that to torture Anderson who went to Arizona?
  17. Fears would be a heck of a pickup for ISU. He was a total stud as a freshman.
  18. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) Can't raeally disagree with much of that, altough I would rank Memphis higher (I'm assuming Washington will return) and LSU lower. I highly doubt both Davis and Thomas return. Yeah, that's the thing with this list. It's stupid to rank the teams with no idea who is going pro.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) When was the last time Duke didn't finish in the top 10-15? They're losing a lot but you guys are kidding yourselves if you don't think they're going to be a top 15 team this year. Top 10? Maybe not, but I certainly wouldn't dismiss it. Yeah, pretty much. It's impossible to doubt Duke. This will basically be a repeat of a few years ago when they were a young team that a lot of people doubted and had a great year.
  20. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 01:49 AM) Every point guard was throwing up alley oops and running out of control. Collins set Scheyer up for 2 of the 3 three pointers. He is the quintessential PG. An all-star game is a bad example, but he reminds me a lot of Marbury the other times I've seen him.
  21. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) All you need to know. Stay far, far away. I've heard the strip joints at Mizzou are dirty, but then again aren't they all?
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) Saw nothing out of Scheyer to convince me out of thinking he will be a bench player at Duke, but then again it was just an all star game so it's not like that would change my mind anyways. Honestly, how many times have you ever seen him play? He's every bit as good as the hype. He'll prove his doubters wrong during his time at Duke. Also, Collins played well by his standards, but I'm not sure if he is a true PG. He was sloppy, and always will be. He is incredibly strong with his dribble and quick down the court, but I was disappointed with his decision making (even if it's an all-star game). Basically, I think Collins is talented and will put up great numbers at Kansas, but the question is whether or not he will help his team win as a PG or as a scorer. He reminds me a lot of Marbury.
  23. The game was a good one this year. Durant is a freak, but had a quiet 23 points if that is possible. Budinger was the best player to me, he was making great plays in every aspect. He had some great passes as well as some pretty finishes. Oden is simply incredible on defense. I also thought Scheyer played well in the 2nd half, but I might be biased.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) 2 pieces of recruiting news. MAC Freshmen of the year Maurice Acker (5'8 point guard) will transfer to Marquette following the firing of Ball State's head coach. He will redshirt as a transfer next year and have 3 years of eligibility at Marquette starting in 2007-2008. That backcourt of Dominic James, Jerel McNeal, Wes Matthews, and now Maurice Acker (and Scott Christopherson, a top 100 national recruit from Wisconsin at guard coming in the class of 2007)....yikes. Acker will rejoin his high school teammate in McNeal. I bet that's why he decided to go to Marquette.
