  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Honestly I'm suprised Brad Friedel ain't your goalie. He's had a great season for Blackburn Rovers propelling them to Uefa Cup Qualification. Arena has always been questionable with who he picked for the nats in my mind. No Taylor Twellman? Come on.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) So is Keller or Jordan the starting goalkeeper for the American squad? I've heard, on other sites, Keller, but also Jordan here and on other sites. I looked it up but couldn't find anything. Who is Jordan?
  3. Knights lost 8-4. Fields went 3-4 with a double, an RBI, and a walk. Box Score Barons lost 5-2. Malone started. Box Score Warthogs lost 11-4. Hanson, Kelly, and Haggerty with 2 hits each. HR for Cook. Egbert struggled. Tim Bittner is back with the Sox. He was a 10th round pick in 01 by the Sox, but spent time in the Angels organization since the middle of the 03 season. Bittner pitched out of the pen tonight. Box Score Ironically the only Sox affiliate to win tonight was Kanny, winning 11-2. Orlando 3-5, back up to .280 on the year. Valenzuela Jr., Metheny, Ricks, Castillo, Hernandez, and Sanchez all had 2 hits. Cortes with a nice start, 6 IP, 2 R. Box Score
  4. That was a hell of a game on the whole. T&T got a BS 2nd yellow to Avery John (that was questionable to call it even a foul in my mind). Hislop was amazing in goal. Great scene to see them excited with a tie. Heck of a World Cup debut for T&T, give a little more respect to the CONCACAF region.
  5. That was typical Mizzou baseball before the last few weeks of the season. Offense blows and can't execute RISP. Jamieson left his starter in too long and the bullpen blows. Yeah, that's about right. f***ing hell. There is no way Mizzou should have lost that game. It should have been 4-0 early on without Mizzou adding any hits. Scherzer leaves during the 7th before the 2nd run scores and Wendte comes in (Mizzou's best reliever, Parker is garbage) and locks it down maybe letting in the 2nd run at most.
  6. Knights Box Score Barons win 3-1. 2 hits for Nanita, Smith, Aldridge, and Schnurstein. Lumsden 8 IP, 1 R. Box Score 'Hogs win 2-1. Amador 3-4. Harrell not his cleanest outings but 6 IP, 1 R. Box Score Kanny lost 6-5. Orlando 2-4 with an RBI and a run. HR for Sanchez. Box Score
  7. I mentioned he was doing well in a game thread a while back. No one responded. Link Considering Owens hit better in AA and is now scuffling in AAA and Spidale doing basically the same thing a year before I think we might be seeing inflated averages with the big park in AA and deflated averages in AAA with guys going for power. Nanita is still a semi prospect, but throwing him in the bigs? I don't know if that would work, but Anderson is hitting in the .150s so I guess it can't get much worse at the plate.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) I'm pinning this. Probably time for some predictions as well. Sounds good, I haven't made predictions yet but I'll go at it now. I'll just pick group winners and the overall winner because I don't feel like looking at the bracket. A: Germany- I'm not going to pick against the host and '02 runner up, especially in this group. B: Sweden- England is very good, but they haven't done well compared to expectations in recent World Cups. Sweden is a solid team that could give England trouble. I switched this pick, it could go either way. C: Netherlands- Argentina is very good, but Holland is scary talented. Very interesting group with all four teams having the ability to advance IMO. D: Mexico- It's a pretty poor group and I just think Portugal is more prone to an upset. E: Not picking due to my two favorite teams being in it (USA and Italy). More on the US later. F: Brazil- come on, Brazil is my pick to win it all (sorry for being boring). G: France- They look like the class of this group, but could get tested. H: Spain- I have my doubts about the Spaniards, but this group shouldn't pose too much of a threat. No truely bold predictions. There's probably going to be more parody than I'm giving credit. The African teams are the wild cards because some of the teams that have name players and World Cup experience/success didn't make it (Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal). Of course these teams have to be solid to qualify over the previously mentioned teams. As for the US, I refuse to make an official prediction because I really don't want to pick either way. It's not going to be easy to get out of the group and I'm on the fence whether I think they will get out or not. Italy has a history of an upset or two along the way (I hate when they pull back with a 1 goal lead.). The Czechs are hyped up a lot, but I'm not sold on them being a complete team. With that said they still are a good team that has a good chance to advance. Ghana is the long shot, but they could do some damage and ruin the chances of one of the other three teams. It may turn out that the results against Ghana could decide it for the top three. Who can avoid the upset and better yet who can boost their goal differencial? Italy is the class of the group, but as an Italian fan I can say that hasn't always mattered. The problem for the US is that they have to not only advance from a tough group, but if they finish second they play the winner of Brazil's group aka Brazil in the round of 16. I would love to see the US play Brazil and even if they lost it would be a decent World Cup. Advancing out of this group would be fine and everyone can respect losing to the Brazilians. At the same time playing Brazil opens up the what if of the US possibly winning. That would be an epic upset that would draw a ton of attention to the team on the international, but more importantly, national scale. I'm way ahead of myself, I just want to get the Cup going!
  9. QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 01:29 AM) I do, not only can he eat innings, but when hes on, he has an amazing GB/K rate(as seen by the two tailor made DP balls tonight) yum!, i was reading in the AAP that he can hit between 94-98 is that true? it was saying 89 on the tv screen. Can anyone who was at the park tell me what he was hitting? Also i read @ baseballanalysts.com that he features a power sinker / slider / 4 seam fastball and i too feel just like the Cheat said in his blog that being under Coop can only help him reach his full potential. 94-98 sounds a bit high, but 92-95 sounds better. I saw 90 multiple times out of him tonight, but he threw his sinker a lot. I think he's a guy who can go mid 90s but doesn't use his fastball that much.
  10. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Who will be the starting keeper for Team USA? Keller.
  11. Prior pitched well after giving up a 3 run bomb to Aldridge in the 1st. Broadway has been struggling lately.
  12. Interesting draft today. The first two picks are +value/-signability guys. Last year Danks was the first round of day 2, same deal. Ken Williams Jr. played in 7 games for Arizona with a single in his only at-bat. I'm looking up stats on Wright, but nothing so far. The Florida CC league posts stats, but can't find Wright's numbers.
  13. Collaro continues to show he might be becoming a real AA hitter soon lol.
  14. Looks like Shelby decided to hit for more power this year. Last year .344 with 10 HR, this year .291 with 18 HR and 18 doubles. That's very good power, but .291 isn't that great. Still a pretty good value pick if the Sox think they can develop him. On a sidenote the Cardinals took OF Shane Robinson from Florida St. to close out round 5. Robinson hit .427 as a sophomore, but only hit .361 this year. Between him and Degerman I love the Cardinals draft so far.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Cards take Degerman out of Rice right behind us. Really good pick by the Cards. Yeah, he's got nasty stuff without huge velocity. Reves hit .300 with 13 HR (good power) this year at Tech. He was a JC transfer so those numbers are actually good considering it was his first year of D1 ball.
  16. Interesting pick. A lesser known guy, sounds like a slight reach, but I can't really argue with slight reaches in round 4.
  17. Jordan Walden is still available. He would be a great value pick this late. He has a commitment to Texas, but was expected to be drafted in the first 2 rounds so most didn't think he would go to the 'Horns.
  18. I'm not a big fan of college closers. Tommy John surgery on his record no less. We'll see.
  19. Some guys I'd like the Sox to take: Wes Hodges, 3B, Ga. Tech Jordan Walden, RHP, HS Chad Tracy, C, Pepperdine
  20. Usually I'm all about college guys in the first 3 rounds, but the way this draft is working I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox go HS with this 2nd rounder. Some great value out there.

  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Scherzer scares the hell out of me. Let's do it Jason! The Tigers won 8-3 today without Scherzer pitching at all. Scherzer and Culp will get the first two games in Fullerton. Enjoy.

  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) 10-3, 3 outs to go for the Titans. Uh oh Jason, we could have a rematch. Last year your Titans knocked out my Tigers. If Mizzou can win tomorrow we'd get a 3 game set in Fullerton. That would be awesome.
  25. QUOTE(mrkupe @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) I am the aforementioned mrkupe. I believe you jumped into the mock draft a little late, as I'm pretty certain you didn't make that Reynolds pick. I'm curious, who would you have taken if you had been around at #4? My own inclination, trying to take it from the perspective of what would help the Pirates the most, would have been to take Drabek or maybe Linecum. Yeah, I missed out on the 1st round. If I was drafting I probably would have gone with Brandow Morrow at 4, but would have been disappointed Lincoln wasn't available. I definitely wasn't expecting Lincoln to fall, but I also wasn't expecting Longoria to not go by then. I would have taken Lincoln if he was available, then Lincecum, then Morrow. Pretty big drop off after Lincecum IMO. I really like Colvin too so picked him up in the 2nd round. 3rd round I went with Carpenter because I felt he was a good value pick at that spot. 4th round I was going to go with Shawn Tolleson and was pretty set on him, but he was taken only 2 picks before me. I wanted both Nathan Culp, LHP of Missouri, and Shane Robinson, but I figured Culp would be more likely to slip. Of course Culp went late 4th round to my dismay. I really like Culp, it's a homer pick considering I go to Mizzou, but he is a lefty with great control. I think take him away from metal bats and get him a better defense (Mizzou's is pretty poor) and his performances should sore in the pros. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) He and his brother were the stars of the Phenix City, AL team that played in the Little League World Series. Wow, that's weird. I knew I had heard that name before, but didn't know from where. I guess I remembered him from the LLWS. Sometimes you surprise yourself with what you remember heh.
