  2. FORZA ITALIA!!! Wow that was amazing. The first half was a ton of fun to watch with good action. The 2nd half was a little dull, but the teams cancelled each other out. The overtime was amazing. Both teams subbed in offensive players and those guys dominated. The midfield was bypassed due to fatigued players and it made play wide open. The finish by Grosso was amazing with the great bend.
  3. Good to see McCulloch do well. He's probably going to start next year in Winston-Salem (or at least I'd hope considering his age) and anything thing he does this year is fluff, but good to see success.
  4. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 06:03 PM) pedro alvarez I looked up his stats and holy cow. .329 with 22 HRs. 22 HRs?! As a freshman?!! He'd have to have a meltdown of Matt LaPorta proportions to fall out of the first round 2 years from now.
  5. This was funny and I read nsbb every once in a blue moon. Quit ridiculing the guy.
  6. Charlotte lost 5-3. Sweeney 1-5 in leadoff spot. Stewart 3-4 DHing and playing 1st base, interesting. Tracey even went 1-2. Unfortunately he wasn't as good on the mound and picked up the loss. 11. Knights lost 5-3. Fields 2-5 with a double and 2 runs. Gonzalez 2-4. Phillips gave up 14 hits in 6.2 IP. Box Score Barons lost 5-4. They took the lead in the top of the 9th with 2 runs but gave 2 right back in the bottom half. Getz 2-3 with a walk and a run. Lopez 2-4. Collaro 2-3 with 2 HR, 3 RBI. His 2nd HR gave the Barons the lead in the 9th with 2 outs, shame it couldn't be a game winner. Ryan Rodriguez 6.1 IP, 3 R. Wasserman with the blown save, but both runs were unearned. 12. Castro for Haigwood? What is the big deal with Fabio? That seems like a ridiculously hefty price.

Woodson struggled and took a loss in his first decision of the year. Box Score
  14. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) Dan, Alex, I know not too many people say this much, but I really do appreciate these threads saying how our spects do in each game. It's a very underrated job you guys do to let posters here who love prospects (like myself) keep informed of it.. Nice work. : Yeah, I got lazy with them this year because people didn't seem too care much. I guess people like reading them and not posting, which is completely fine, I just wasn't able to probably gauge the interest.

  16. I was talking to a Cubs fan friend of mine online and I pointed out how the AL Central went 5-0 tonight and in each of the teams' last 10 games the AL Central is a combined 39-11. All of those games are against the NL Central. My friend pointed out that if you look at the standings, only 1 team in the AL has a losing record in their last 10. Cleveland at 4-6. The NL has two, Florida at 7-3 and Milwaukee at 6-4. The Brewers have the boost of beating the Cubs in their last two so.... How amazing is that?
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I totally agree with you about Keller. I don't know how anyone can call him a world class keeper when he's not even the best from his country. Gigi Buffon, Dida, Iker Casillas, Oliver Kahn, Petr Cech, and Edwin van der Sar...those are world class goalies. Tim Howard is so much better than Keller but he gets overlooked because he doesn't start at Man United and will probably be the best keeper ever to come out of the US. Yeah Keller is not a world class keeper, that's pretty clear. The US soccer propaganda made him sound way better (Lalas saying best keeper in the world? Puh-lease!). However, it's going to be very hard for Howard to be the best keeper in US history IMO. Brad Friedel has been playing in England for a while and even won Premier League goalie of the year in 02/03. Right now, he's the best US keeper ever, and I don't think Tim Howard is good enough to take that away from him. Sidenote: Not related to this World Cup specifically, but I found a website that has a lot of information on American soccer players playing abroad. Yanks Abroad has player profiles and a list of players playing overseas and even has info on some notable guys playing in MLS. I was reading up and was surprised to see the amount of guys, especially young players, playing in Europe. The future may be as promising as advertised. After you look at this site you'll probably be wondering why there are more than 2 or 3 MLS guys on the nats' roster.
  18. I still say it's a penalty. You slide in the box and don't get the ball, you're usually screwed. Maybe Grosso accentuated the dive, but as I said before Neill dove in the box, missed the ball, and got the man.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) Yeah, and Eric Wynalda has been dead on with everything he's said this World Cup. The guy has no business anayzing anything. Right and you're more qualified.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) You don't have to be a soccer know it all to see that it wasn't a penalty kick. Obviously, you have the Italian blinders on just like DBAH0 had the Aussie blinders on. He tripped himself, watch the play again. Like I said, none of the analysts have complained about the call. Wynalda said it was a clear penalty in the post game. I don't need to take blinders off to state facts.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Actually, it was not a penalty kick. The Aussie defender fell and was laying almost completely on the ground and then the Italian forward dragged his feet and purposely tripped himself over the defender. If anything, it was a dive and not a PK. And this is from a neutral perspective. I'm sorry I forgot you were the all knowing one when it comes to soccer. The fact is none of the analysts I've heard have complained about the call.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) Absolutely devastated. Terrible way to go out. Italy's penalty was ABSOLUTE BS. Lucas Neill was on the ground, lying down, and the Italy Left Back jumped over him, Neill didn't move, and then the Italy guy theatrically fell to the ground. He should have gotten a yellow card for diving instead. Materazzi getting sent off was fairly bordeline. The tackle itself wasn't that bad and probablly deserved a yellow, but he was the last man, which equals trouble. But we've had refereeing decisions go against us all tournament. It's nothing new. Funny how blatantly different the different sides see it. I don't see how you can b**** about the penalty that much. The defender dove, missed the ball, and got the man in the box. That equals a penalty and if you didn't have your Aussie bias blinders on you would see that. No one has argued with the call.
  23. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Watching this World Cup and then watching the MLS game, Fire versus Red Bull, it just is shocking the difference in physicality. The MLS basically had no fouls called, and many no calls would have received atleast a yellow card in the cup. Yeah I thought the same thing. I like the more physical, less fouls and cards called. That Fire game was the first I had seen in a long time and it really made me look at MLS differently. I hate MLS, it sucks, and has been awful ever since a lot of the best players in the league (especially the Fire) got picked clean by European powers a few yeas ago. I noticed how you rarely see balls in the air and quick reversals of the field like you see in the World Cup. The MLS style can be fun if the team is good enough to play it. The Fire in 2003 were a machine that was fun to watch, but that style doesn't work against better teams.
  24. Great win for Italy after a tough game. I think the red card was a rough decision but Italy overcame it. The Aussies really needed to push harder offensively. It looked like they were going to have to score on a set piece because they showed little during the run of play. I was pretty sure it was going to go to extra time where I wasn't liking the prospect. That was an exciting game from my perspective but was probably dull to an outsider. Totti came up money.
