  2. Blaming Dye is stupid. It's AJ's fault if anything. He ran too early assuming the throw was going home. Once AJ is in the rundown Dye has to go home because if he scores before AJ is out the run counts.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) So far, he looks like a Sox pitching prospect. His fastball is in the high 80s, and he hasn't shown control of his curve. He seems to have some sinking action on his fastball. Hopefully our hitters go with some of the pitches to the opposite field. His minor league numbers seem similar to that as well. Low strikeout rate, but also low walk rate. Overall above average minor league performer.
  4. Johnson spent 3 years in rookie ball, has never even made it to AAA, and had a 4.13 ERA in AA. We better rock him. Oh and opponents hit .328 off him in July. The Barons could rock this guy.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) so skipping low A altogether? I still dont understand what the point of sending him to rookie ball was. He had an iffy college season by a 1st round picks' standards. Maybe the Sox wanted to let him ease into pro ball, making sure his college struggles weren't going to carry over. Not to mention the heavy workload as the ace of one of the best teams in the country. Lumsden and Broadway both had dead arm periods and pitched limited innings after getting drafted. Let's not forget that Kanny is an awful team and might have a negative clubhouse feel. Not to say they have bad characters, but losing sucks.
  6. Charlotte won 7-4. Rogo 2-4 with a walk and a run. Stewart 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Sweeney 3-3, double, walk, run, SB #5 (average at .300). Logan allowing only one hit while striking out one for his 7th save. Box Score Winston-Salem lost 5-4. Haggerty, Roberts, Lucy, and Smith with 2 hits each. Box Score Kanny lost 6-1. Metheny 2-4. Box Score Great Falls lost 5-3. 2 hits for Garcia, Welker, and Grace. Box Score Bristol won 4-3. Inouye 3-5. Woodson back in the rotation, pitched ok. Box Score
  7. I'd be willing to give up all of them. Honestly, there is no Chris Young on that list this time around. Then again, I was reluctant to give up Jeremy Reed too. I've never been a huge fan of Sweeney. Fields would be the one of the bunch I'd want to keep most, but he doesn't have a clear spot so losing him is no huge loss. I like Broadway but have doubts. We don't have any top tier prospects right now.
  8. Sure, if the playoffs started today the Twins would be a good pick. What it comes down to is who is hottest at the right time, which at this point in time is a crapshoot as to picking who is hot. Liriano will almost definitely drop off, if only down to solid numbers. Put me down as saying there is no way the Twins win the World Series. I just don't see it happening.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:33 AM) I also believe American striker Brian McBride left Fulham for Birmingham today. Where did you hear that?!
  10. Fields hit .337 in June with a .505 slugging. The power is lower, but that's very acceptable. July, however, is the start of his struggles. .274 with a .387 slugging. Still, as far as struggling numbers go those aren't bad.
  11. Charlotte won 11-2. Velandia 4-5. Owens 2-4, 2 triples, 3 runs, 2 walks (average up to .263). Fields, Rogo (HR #9), Sweeney with 2 hits each. Haeger 6 IP, 2 R, 6 K, 0 BB, 6 hits. Logan another 1-2-3 inning. Box Score Birmingham lost 3-2. Nanita (#8) and Schnurstein (#7) with solo HRs. Box Score Winston-Salem won 8-3. 2 hits for Cook, Armstrong, Lucy (HR #5), Smith, and De Los Santos. Box Score Kanny won 4-0. Orlando, Cunningham, and Gomes with 2 hits each. Jason Rice with 4 shutout innings in the spot start. Omogrosso (3 innings) and Moviel (2 innings) combined for hitless relief. Box Score Great Falls lost 7-3. Madsen 2-4. Box Score Bristol lost 10-2. Box Score
  12. It's convenient how you draw the line just above the point the Sox are. You want Lumsden in AAA? What about when he's in AAA? The Sox trade him and you're saying the same thing. McCarthy looks like a great talent but has proven very little on the Major League level. People need to realize that, he's still a prospect. He's been very average at best in the Majors. Yet trading him would be devastating to our future. Jeremy Reed hit .400 for his first month in the bigs. What happened to him?
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) If you feel nothing should be improved because we won a World Series last year, fine. Whether or not Minnesota wins a championship this year, they've positioned themselves to contend for a LONG period of time. Williams thought similarily with our current rotation, but now that its becoming increasing clear we've overestimated their talent. It'd be beneficial to have contingency plans available. I simply feel Minnesota's future is brighter than ours. I guess what I'm saying is that it sounds like you would rather contend every year than win a World Series. You'd rather be the Atlanta Braves than the Florida Marlins. Not the greatest example because the Braves have at least the 1 World Series. The difference between 2 and 1 is a lot smaller than 1 and 0 IMO. Minnesota's future might be brighter, but they don't have enough to win a World Series. They can't keep their guys long enough to accumulate enough Major League talent. I'd rather the White Sox have 'stumbled' onto a World Series than make the playoffs 4 or 5 times in the past 6 years without a title. Rather be lucky than good? Maybe. I'd still rather be us than the Twins in the past 15 years and would still rather be us for the next 10 considering I don't think they'll get a World Series title and we'll still have that one only 10 years old.
  14. This is a stupid argument. We won a World Series. That is not a 'so what' statement. You absolutely can not bash management and the organization when they just won the World Series meaning they did their job better than everybody (way better than the Twins who were pathetic last year). Teams don't repeat often, it's not something that is expected after winning one. Kenny has been making these type of deadline deals for years and it didn't come back to bite them. They obviously had enough talent to win a World Series so they're fine. I don't know how you can honestly criticize. Think about how stupid you sound, they won a WORLD SERIES. Best team in baseball. Yet they're incompetent and should mimmick the Twins who haven't won a World Series in 15 years.
  15. Charlotte lost 6-1. Owens 2-4 with a double. Fields 1-3. Phillips with a rough start. Box Score Birmingham lost 8-1. Lopez 2-4 with a walk. Nanita 3-5 with an RBI. Harrell owned again. Box Score Winston-Salem lost 5-2. Liotta 6 IP, 4 R. Box Score Kanny lost 2-1. Richard 6 IP, 1 R, 1 K, 4 BB, 7 hits. Box Score Great Falls won 7-6. 2 hits for Cruz. Box Score Bristol lost 13-1. Box Score Red letter day for the org...
  16. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) I see no reason why KMac won't be up in Kanny now after the trade. There's an open spot, and he seems to be the best choice. Cassel keeps tearing it up, as well. He was my favorite draftee out of this years draft, and he's not letting me down, that's for sure. Also, I'm gonna reiterate what most everyone on here has already been saying: Carter needs to be called up. He's pretty much done all he can in Great Falls. However, if the Sox don't call him up, I can see their reasoning. He's only 19, and maybe they think he'll be better off by gaining lots of confidence tearing it up where he is. I just would really like to see what he could do back in Kanny. Carter will not be promoted. They must have seen something they didn't like to pull him out of Kanny after only 50 at-bats and send him back to extended spring training. Maybe they fixed whatever they saw, but he will be at Kannapolis to start next year. There is no real reason to rush him. McCulloch, meanwhile, has absolutely nothing to prove at Great Falls. At this point they might as well shut him down for the year if they aren't going to promote him, Great Falls was a conservative assignment anyway.
  17. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Drafting Lance Broadway over hometown guy Cesar Carillo was really the icing on the cake. Cesar had better numbers, better stuff, and was still passed over for "pitchable" Lance Broadway. Ironically Carrillo had an elbow injury this year after posting nice numbers in AA. He even got promoted to AAA, but soon after got injured. I was passive about the Broadway pick, but I'm starting to like it more and more. He's going to have to prove himself more before I get really excited, but I'm not down on the pick like I was. Also what about Sean Tracey? He has pretty good stuff even though his future in the bigs is as a reliever. I really think he will be solid for the team next year.
  18. Charlotte gets 3 hits in a 1-0 loss. Tracey 7 IP, 1 R, 4 K, 2 BB, 7 hits. Hermanson with a 1-2-3 8th with 2 Ks. Garza with a CG shutout lol. Box Score Birmingham lost 4-2. Nanita with HR #7. Broadway 6 IP, 3 R, 6 K, BB, 8 hits. Box Score Winston-Salem won 2-0. Haggerty 2-3. Kelly 2-4 with HR #16. Hansen with HR #9. Torres 6.1 IP, 0 R, 7 K, 0 BB, 3 hits. Box Score Kanny lost 8-5. Allen 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Brooks 6.1 IP, 3 R, 5 K, 0 BB, 7 hits. Box Score Great Falls won 5-0. 2 hits for Garcia, Grace (HR #3), and Carter. McCulloch 5 IP, 0 R, 10 K, 0 BB, 4 hits. He better be in Kannapolis soon. Cassel with 3 shutout innings of relief. Box Score Bristol lost 6-3. 2 hits for Gerst and Acosta. Inouye HR #2. Box Score
  19. The Italian clubs appealed the decision and all got lighter penalties. Juventus is now the only team going down to Serie B and Milan is going back to the Champions League, but they have to go through qualifying. Link Changes: Milan- starts season with -8 instead of -15 and has only 30 points taken off 05/06 results (placing them 3rd). They'll start in 3rd round of CL qualifying instead of out of European competition completely. Lazio- remains in Serie A instead of demotion. Will start season with 11 point penalty. Fiorentina- remains in Serie A instead of demotion. Will start season with 19 point penalty. Juventus- point penalty starting next season in Serie B at -17 instead of -30. As far as the article mentions Lazio and Fiorentina still won't be allowed to play in European competitions.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:29 AM) I knew Valencia would have a great transfer season. They get Morientes and now Del Horno and are now looking to get Christiano Ronaldo. Barca signs Thuram and Zambrotta from Juventus, and Crespo might be leaving Chelsea for Inter Milan/AC Milan. To me, this is probably better than the MLB Trade Deadline. Yeah, because it's the offseason. Same amount of moves made except there is a little more spice this year with the scandals in Italy.
  21. QUOTE(T R U @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) How does KC automatically get the better end of this deal? No matter what McDougal does in a Sox uniform theres no way to know who got the better end of this deal right now.. All I can say right now is this.. McDougal is guaranteed to have an effect on our Major League Club, whether it be good or bad.. Lumsden does not have that same guarantee for Kansas City I'll agree, but Lumsden will probably pitch for KC on technicality: they have no pitching. Lumsden is going to be in AAA next year and as a talented pitcher he'd really have to fall on his face in AAA to not even get a shot in the bigs with the Royals. That said I'm still a fan of the deal despite thinking that the Sox overpaid value wise.
  22. Charlotte won 6-3. Rogo 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R, K. Fields 1-3, 2 R, BB, K. Logan K'd the side (all swinging) in a 1-2-3 9th for save #6. Box Score Birmingham lost 8-2. Lopez 2-4. Russell rocked. Box Score Winston-Salem lost 4-3 with a blown save in the 9th. 2 hits for Smith, Kelly, Roberts, De Los Santos. Rodrigez 6 IP, 2 R. Perez 2 IP, 2 K, 0 BB, 0 hits ERA down to 0.66. Box Score Kanny slaughtered 13-1. Cunningham 2-4. Box Score Great Falls lost 6-5 in 11. Reves 4-5 with 2 RBI. Box Score Bristol with a doubleheader. They won game 1 1-0. Edwards and Texeira combine for the shutout. Box Score Bristol won game 2 6-5. Gartrell 3-3. Box Score
  23. That explains it because I had a Chicago area zip code in my info but never got blocked out at school. They must track the IP, makes sense for them.
