QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 25, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Because Kansas will beat Florida/UNC and run the table in the Big 12. And the Big 12 tournament. And beat Depaul. And BC. And they won't pull a choke job in the NCAA tournament. Yeah I don't know how you go from a team that's lost 2 years in a row in the first round of the tournament to suddenly talking national title. He mentions Texas being led by a bunch of freshman as a bad thing when that's what Kansas was a year ago and had a good regular season. 6 guys makes a deep team? Yeah, you're right. Kansas is still a ridiculously young team next year, they can talk national title in a year if they don't have guys leave early and can get past the first round. Ok, I'll stop wasting brain cells on this. Ok, one more: they are coached by Bill Self.

You're kidding right? I'm beginning to realize why the people of Missouri hate Kansas. I don't really give a s*** about the rivalry, even as a student at Mizzou, but Kansas people are just dumb, ignorant, and cocky.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 25, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) I hope the Tigers fade, but they have pitched great, and I'd rather go by what they are doing now as opposed to seasons past when they had a bad team behind them, a manager without a clue, and a generally bad team attitude. Bonderman is a guy who scouts expect to breakout at any time. Verlander throws 98 and is unhittable at times. Rogers is solid, he may not fade because he's not pitching in Texas anymore, and he has a big ballpark to pitch in. Robertson is a #5 starter. He has his moments, and Maroth is a decent pitcher. Rogers had an ERA of 3.76 in Arlington from 03-05. Don't blame the stadium for his late season fades.

England is going to choke like always. The English media needs to realize they are not one of the elite teams in the world. Sorry. Of course we lost to Morocco in a warm up match. Yeah, we're ready. :rolly -
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) I dont know, it seems to me that Rogers is just saying that Stewart can replace Widger as a backup catcher, which he certainly can. I dont think hes trying to make the claim that hes a future star. Owens is an interesting story. I think that he will need all this year and al next year in AAA but I think he will have a big year in AAA next year, but whether he can ever hit in the majors or not remains to be seen. That remains to be seen, but my point was that Rogers made it sound like the Sox had a lot of great talent in the majors. We have a lot of pitching depth and prospects close to the bigs, but nothing all that much better than most of the rest of the teams out there. A lot of teams have guys like Owens and Stewart, they aren't all that special. That's what I was saying.

Yeah, but next year's is protected top 3 or top 5 or something like that.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) I also saw that ESPN ranks Josh Fields as the 4th best minor leaguer. That was Baseball America's Prospect Hot Sheet which ranks the hottest minor leaguers, not necessarily best.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) How is Iowa the top Big Ten team, when OSU is also in the big ten? I f***ed up that's how.

QUOTE(T R U @ May 20, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) How come music keeps playing everytime I open a thread????????? It's the Tyler Colvin thing Gene posted. I don't know how or why he posted it, but he did.

They have a ton of returning starters on both sides of the ball despite the key losses mentioned. The theory is guys will step up due to experience. The question mark is QB. If they get good production at QB they are top 25, if not they are probably not a bowl team.

Heads said it was a reference to a Buehrle thread. Mark Buehrle is not an ace was the reference.

Knights lost 4-2. Owens went 3-4. Fields 1-3 with a walk and 2 Ks. Tracey with a decent start (7 IP, 4 R), but a lot of walks. Box Score Barons won 5-1. Aldridge the new signing made a splash (2-2 with a HR). Lumsden with 7 dominant shutout innings. Box Score Hogs won 5-1 in a shortened game (7 innings). Russell went 5 giving up only an unearned run. Box Score Kanny lost 4-1 (shocker). Derek Rodriguez went 7 giving up 4 runs. Box Score

I don't know if there is enough other than Chase Daniel to get excited about. Chase Coffman was freshman All-America at TE and will be a nice target for Daniel. All the halfbacks are coming back so the running attack might be decent. The rest of the team has some talent, but nothing special. I guess that statement goes for the whole team. I'm expecting another mediocre to above average season with the following year Mizzou's shot at the North with Daniel, Coffman, and the RBs all vets and Nebraska comes to Columbia where they have lost the last 2.

I think this list has a little more respectability than the ones I saw after the national title. Link I'm not so sure about OSU at 1, but they'll be a top team. ND comes in at 8. Iowa is the next Big Ten team at 10, Michigan sits at 16, and Penn St. at 21. NIU, Northwestern, and Wisconsin among the other teams getting consideration. If NU gets production out of QB there is little doubt in my mind that they are a top 25 team. The Big Ten in general looks like a tight race as long as OSU doesn't run away with it.

Where does he have Max Scherzer going? I realize the Sox are doubtful to take him considering he's a Boras client, but he's a stud. He was hurt but has been back in form and pitched 7 IP 1 R against Texas tonight. Also, what happened to Shane Robinson? He's hitting .347 this year and was considered a top prospect after last year's college season. I haven't heard anything about him since.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 18, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) I mooted that possibility a couple of weeks back. Anyone know if they called up Cunningham to replace him? Amador got demoted to W-S from Bham.

QUOTE(Spiff @ May 18, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) Ah thanks people, it's good to be noticed. I don't know if this place needs me so much as needs to deal with me occasionally. Anway I'm just glad I made it to 22 after all that stupid s*** in December. At least now I know that I am invincible. Thanks again.

Owens and Stewart are talked up too much in the article. Sweeney even a bit too. All the pitchers mentioned are doing well in their leagues and Fields is tearing it up in the IL. These guys can help in the future. The pitchers are very expendable and if the Sox makes move this trade deadline it will involve one of the pitchers for sure.

Champions League; Gunners and Barca

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 18, 2006 -> 01:12 AM) I guess Henry could be off to Barcelona now. And Arsenal are screwed if that's the case. They'll struggle to qualify for the CL next season if he goes, especially with the way Tottenham are already buying players. They should be fine, but I heard Pires is likely headed to Villarreal. Why is Arsenal offloading guys? Are they slightly strapped for cash as a result of the new stadium or what? -

That was an entertaining game despite the red card call. It should have been an advantage and a goal for Barcelona since they scored as the whistle blew for the foul. The first 20 minutes (up until the red card) was filled with wide open play. After the red card it was a slower game. Arsenal had a nice period at the end of the first half when they scored, but the 2nd half was dull until the last 15-20 minutes. Still it was a nice warmup for the World Cup in less than a month. -

That was one hell of a game. -
Knights win 3-0. Fields and Lopez 2-4. Phillips with 8 shutout innings. Box Score The Barons lost 3-2. Valido 2-4. Nanita 1-2 with an RBI and a run. He is hitting .278 on the year with an OBP around .380 and has more walks (23) than strikeouts (22) in 133 at-bats. At 24 years old does this guy still have a shot at being a utility guy in the future? Rodriguez 7 IP, 3 R. Box Score Winston-Salem won 3-1. HRs for Gomes (2) and Haggerty (1). Egbert with a very nice start. Box Score Kanny won a game! 4-2 over Hickory behind a 4 run 4th. Brooks got the win. Box Score

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 15, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) Disappointments thus far appear to be Robert Valido, Jerry Owens, Hernandez, Anderson Gomes (who phil rogers probably over-hyped), Brandon Allen. Valido was overhyped in general IMO. His production, even last year, never matched his talent. He came close last year to what he was supposed to do and everyone got all excited. I'm still not sold on this guy. Of course, it's easy to say this now, but we'll see how this works out. As for Owens, he looks like Spidale 2 right now. CF, leadoff hitter for the Barons who has a breakout year and then struggles in Charlotte.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) Actually, I'd assume that the Pads were in a very similar position as the White Sox over the years. Aside from a couple years back when they were moving to Petco they have been a relatively competitive team year in and year out in the NL West. This is based of my assumptions and you guys could very well prove me wrong and that they had quite a few years with terrible seasons. They did have the #1 pick with Bush, lol.

Iowa State to the Big Ten? Utah to the Big XII?

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) The Big Ten will only accept Missouri or Notre Dame. And since we all know it won't be Notre Dame... Care to explain why only those 2?
