  1. I just realized that Isreal Chirino and Christian Marrero both went to the same HS that Gio went to, Monsignor Pace. I remember them being a national power. Chirino went there a few years ago and Marrero was on the team with Gio last year.
  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) In the 21st round the Sox take LHP Raleigh Evans from Lake City CC. We have a day 2 thread. Please post there.
  3. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Guys with solid production but not to high of a ceiling is the day 2 theme. That or guys with signability issues.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) $5.3 million? Isn't that pretty insane? The guy isn't THAT good is he? I think Borchard proved no draftee is that good, lol.
  5. Danks hit .486 this year. Bats lefty, throws right. 6-5, 200. Born 8/7/86. In 75 at bats he had 36 runs, 36 hits, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 10 HR, 30 RBI, and 18 SB. Scouting report: Large frame. Large, lean well defined athletic body. Similar to Paul O'Neill. Big-time raw power. Hard contact, ball jumps off bat. LHH w/power potential and plus defensive skills.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Well, c'mon fellas, tell me about Mr. Danks. From BA:
  7. 20th round White Sox select Justin Morgan, OF, University of South Alabama
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) So essentially just make a second round draft pick if things workout? Maybe even better than that, but yeah, basically.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Oops sorry I did not see the Day Two draft thread, posted about Danks in the 43 page manifesto from yesterday. Yes, it will be interesting to see if they decide to throw large coin at this kid. What a coup it would be. Yeah, I figured it would be easier to get a new thread make it easier to catch up. The Sox will have to throw major coin at him and they have to know that going in. The way their picks went earlier, it seems likely they are way under budget (or had an insanely low budget to begin with).
  10. A local kid just got picked by the Indians in round 19. Timothy Dennehy, LHP, Oak Park-River Forest HS. White Sox select Jordan Danks Round Rock HS! f*** YEAH! Now we have to sign him. For those who didn't know, Danks is rated as a top prospect this draft (37 by BA) with major signability issues. He was committed to Texas. The Sox will try to throw some money at him to lure him away from college.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) I don't know jack about the MLB draft, but isn't this pretty par for the course? You always hear that pitchers, especially lefties, have a future in baseball. However, with the exception of Anderson, Sweeney, etc. a lot of our starting position players in the future would appear to come from either free agency or via trade, so if Kenny is looking to promote home-grown pitching talent instead of position players, I suppose I'm on board with that. Well this is a bit extreme, but the position players go early and late and the middle rounds are pitcher heavy. The Sox took 2 pitchers from the start so there you go. Also, I might be wrong, but I thought this draft was thin with position players.
  12. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" LMAO! That's freaking awesome! Gload getting hurt does blow though. But damn, this site is the s***. I could listen to that joke of a yell all night.
  13. The Sox have 32 picks in 32 rounds tomorrow. The 2nd day starts at 11:00 CST and the picks should fly. I'm looking for the Sox to take a value/tough sign guy or 2 today because they didn't draft very aggressively in day 1. Typically it's the first 20 rounds or so that almot every player gets signed and after that it's less than half the guys sign. So it's worth taking a shot on some signability guys (ie college commits).
  14. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Guys, I just wanted to say good luck finding some of these guys. I've never seen a draft that has this many guys that I can't find squat on. Its amazing. I know. It's brutal. The scary thought is that day two is always going to be harder.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) That shocks me too. Our system really lacks position players, yet we drafted all pitchers. Wow. You can never have enough pitching, you know that. I think the Sox will go with a lot of position players in the later rounds looking for some guys to fill spots. Don't forget there is always the Dominican league grads who will be playing in rookie ball this year too.
  16. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Josh Though he was hit by a pitch which I believe he was correct the plate ump said no that it was a foul ball and Josh went postal on him said a few F bombs and a few other words. Then Razor went toe-to-toe spit a few sunflower seeds at him kicked some dirt up at him. Typical umpire getting a call wrong then instead of admitting a mistake and letting Fields let out his anger He tossed them. You know what, that's good to hear. Fields probably needs to let loose. He had been scuffling and lost a friend. He's been hitting better of late and it doesn't hurt to blow off some steam. Meanwhile, the Knights offense exploded for 15 runs tonight. Of course they gave up 13 and needed extra innings to win. Anderson 3-6, HR, 2 RBI, 3 runs. Burke 3 doubles. Norton, Toca, Borchard (HR), and Lopez with 3 hits each. Spidale and Martinez also had 2 hits each. Ulacia and recent signee Javier Ortiz got rocked. Stud relief from Sanders, Smith, Fields, and Walker got the Knights the win. The Knights scored 8 in the top of the 4th only to give up 7 in the bottom half and trail 9-8 at that point. Box Score Rodriguez got his feet back from under him and had a nice start. 7-2 Hogs win. Collaro another HR and 4 RBI. Valido 2-4, 2 runs. Box Score Kanny lost 5-3. Cook another HR. De Los Santos 2-4. Liotta took the loss. Box Score
  17. That and a day or two after the draft is over us FutureSox writers will have scouting reports on all the picks, that is if we can find info on all of them.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) I'm getting a little tired of the garbage they're showing on ESPN. Spelling Bees, LPGA (I don't even like regular golf), juggling, poker (that's not a f***ing sport), tennis. It's alright to cover these things on Sportscenter, but they don't need to air these things for hours. Blame the NHL lockout. They've been desperate to fill timeslots.
  19. 17. Enrique Garcia RHP Potomac St
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Jim, I know I stated this earlier, but didn't the sox pick up two catchers last year? i thought they did. Do they suck? Well there's Donald Lucy who struggled in Great Falls and will repeat there this season. Adam Ricks is a IF/C that walks a lot, but low average at Kanny (see my profile). Josh Hansen, also at Kanny, is playing 1B, OF, C, and DH. He is hitting about .270 with good power numbers.
  21. Yudelmis Hernandez, 1B, G Holmes Braddock SR HS
  22. Chirino's 2004 stats So he's a reliever. No stats for this year.
  23. QUOTE(56789 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) No one even predicted broadway in the first round He was a late riser.
  24. There goes my boy. Nice pick Tampa.
  25. Guys that have slipped: Jordan Danks still- not surprising at all, but some team will take the risk. Justin Bristow- HS SS David Adams- SS/3B signed with Virginia. Likely to go there. Cody Satterwhite- Old Miss commit RHP, command issues Jacob Marceaux- RHP, McNeese Anthony Varvaro- RHP, St. John's, small with 'electric stuff' Robert Ray- RHP, Texas A&M 90-93 fastball Brian Matusz- LHP, HS, high projection, great control of curve Jeremy Hellickson- RHP, HS (Iowa), first-round stuff but commit to LSU
