So AMC is gonna play the first 4 seasons of Breaking Bad starting next week, which will lead up to the premiere of season 5. They're gonna air 2 or 3 episodes a night (late night). I've not followed the show, tried watching the first season, but couldn't get into it at the time. So, I'm going for it now. Gotta clear up my DVR, got 10 episodes of Community to catch up on, 11 episodes of House and the last 4 episodes of Eastbound and Down to finish.

Just what the White Sox need, another f***ing right handed pitcher.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) We were talking about successful big league starters at the 5'10" or 5'9 mark. Whitey Ford of the Yankees would be another example, or Ron Guidry, come to mind. Fernando Valenzuela, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine, Tim Lincecum, Billy Wagner (for a reliever)…Gio Gonzalez. Gio Gonzalez is not 5'9" or 5'10". I'm 5'10" and he was taller than me.

Dubler with a grand slam and his first start of the year at catcher.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Figures KW Jr starts getting hot right before the short seasons start. He won't get cut no matter what. If anything, he'll "retire" quietly in the offseason.

Morel pinch run for in the third after a single.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) I was thinking Floyd and Quintana for Youkilis and one of their better lower level starting pitchers. But I hope they pass for now. Think more advantageous for the White Sox. Floyd and Quintana would equate to being trade raped by the Red Sox. You can sell high on Earley, move Escobar who really has no spot in Chicago, send Morel to AAA for the rest of the year and give the White Sox more veteran oomph for a possible playoff run.
-
Eduardo Escobar and Michael Earley for Youkilis?
-
I think it's all about the money. If Boston wants a good return, they'll have to eat salary. If they just want to move him, they cannot expect much in return. I think I read that the Dodgers were "lukewarm" on trading for him.
-
What I'm curious about, is it a buyers market or sellers market for Youkilis? Who has the better bargaining position in a possible trade? Boston or the potential acquiring team?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 12:19 AM) Not sure why he would be anywhere but BIRM or CHAR. He's only got 7 games of AAA experience, but over 300 games played at AA, in the Southern League, reaching that level in 2008. He's bound to be promoted to at least Winston-Salem soon. He is at least 3 years older than every player on Kannapolis' roster. I didn't even think a 27 year old player was eligible to play in Low A ball.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Other than Thompson and Sanchez, not much reason to depress oneself opening the W-S box. Maybe just for the Shoemaker fans around here. The Barons box score is much more depressing.

QUOTE (danman31 @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:38 PM) Epic comeback in the Kanny game. I's scored 6 in the 9th to win 9-8. Hankerd won't be there long.

Anyone else seen the Bakersfield Blaze hats? Pretty dope in my opinion. Link

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) Charlie Shirek is in his 6th year in the minors at age 26, and he's pitched 518 innings over 114 games (80 of them starts). He's got 72 innings in AAA and 247 innings in AA. At this point in his career, it really doesn't add any more value to give him an array of situations. At this point and level, he should be performing the role that makes him most likely to add value to the club or in trade, and it seems pretty clear to me that is relieving, not starting. If we were talking a guy 1 or 2 years in, in A ball, I might agree with you. But in this case, it just isn't useful anymore. That's the only explanation that comes to mind. I agree with you though, he's better suited as a reliever.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 31, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) Shirek's numbers continue to slide. This happened last year too. As a starter, he does well at first... then the K numbers drop, and the AvgA goes up. Walks stay the same. Last year, his numbers as a reliever were much better than as a starter. He's a guy who can hit 95, but on a small frame, and he's primarily a fastball-sinker pitcher, with only mediocre other breaking pitches. Why the hell do they keep running him out there as a starter? He's got reliever written all over him. For innings. I think most guys start in the minors simply to get innings and to have opportunities to pitch in a wide array of situations. You can probably evaluate a guy better long term the more innings he has and the more situational experience he gets.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Brent Morel 2 for 3, but pulled in the seventh. Not sure what's up with that??? Injured??? Typical when a position player rehabs for the White Sox. First few games, 3 AB's then out.

I could tell back in 2007 when I saw him pitch for the Barons that Gonzalez was a stud in the making. In addition to the fact that he was one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Watched Source Code and The Change-Up. Both good, major flub in The Change-Up though. They apparently didn't bother to learn when baseball season is. Early on in the movie, they comment on Bateman and his wife's anniversary being in the middle of April. They celebrate it at the end of the movie, which takes place a month after the events of the film. If you've seen it, you can connect the dots. Can't wait to see Prometheus! Love the Alien movies, love that type of Sci Fi movie period.

QUOTE (kev211 @ May 27, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) Pretty sure the "plush pal" they're giving away is just the knock off of a pillow pet. http://mypillowpets.com/shop/chicago-white-sox/ That is why I want it. It's free and my son loves pillow pets and he loves baseball and he would love the Southpaw pillow pet. A Barons related souvenir of one's request in return for acquiring the Southpaw pillow pet from the June 3rd game for me.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:44 PM) Not to mention it's not like Kanny is on the cusp of first place this first half. (14.5 games back) W-S is fine in the OF and in the standings (although I thought they would promote Shoemaker and put Cyle in his place or even in AA like you said since the Barons are weak in the OF) but no. Very odd. The Barons have one open roster spot and they're carrying 3 active catchers. They've been DH'ing one of those catchers the last few games. Hankerd would be a perfect fit for their needs, especially since he can play first base. I mean, hell, he made it to AA in the Southern League 4 years ago, and that was a full season.

Bump, c'mon, help me out please.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 27, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) It's really weird that Cyle Hankered hasn't reported to whichever team he's been assigned to. Guys who get purchased from Indy ball teams usually haul ass to report to an affiliate. It's also odd that Jon Gaston took three days to report. Talked to Cyle on Twitter, going to Kanny. Weird, since he's played over 300 games at AA and is 27.

Looking for the one they're giving away on the 3rd.
