QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) They're looking for somewhat of a stopgap/role player. It would actually be advantageous for us to go the JUCO route with one player this year to help balance out the classes. I doubt he would ever be a starter, but someone who could come in and play behind Armon Bassett and Jordan Crawford. They could then go after a top PG in the 2009 or 2010 class. I can't imagine he'd be a bad fit.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) Come on Heads, every coach follows the green. McDermott is a hard worker, I think you will see a better result this year. But i still think Bradley wins. I just don't think he's what people hype him up to be.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) You've given him a whole one year before you've decided that's he's overrated? Quick trigger there my friend. If you remember, I've thought that was the case since UNI. I just don't see him taking this program to a place it could go. I can see him making us top half of the Big 12, but I've got a hard time believing he can take us where Eustachy did in 2000. He's only brought in one recruit that is higher than a 3-star (Craig Brackins) and he got passed over and over again for a need (08 big) that was going to be a pretty big deal, and instead we've got Hawkeye retread Alex Thompson and friggin Clayton Vette. Brackins is the only one he's taken away from the "big boys" despite being on Colton Iverson and Tyler Zeller far before any of them. That being said, I am a fan of the guards that have come in this year. I just wish that I could actually like the guy we have as basketball coach. The way he said he was comfortable at UNI to come to Iowa State, and the notion that if he does succeed that he'll stay here is pretty ludicrous, IMO. It came down to the money to come to ISU.

Question for our resident Minor League guy on the board
QUOTE(Calderon @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) From some of the interviews I've read/heard with Egbert, someone should probably inform him of the rule change, because he seems to think this is his Rule 5 year. As does the Birmingham media guy.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) You guys wont beat Bradley, UNI should be down this year so tha'ts winnable and Drake still isn't good, also winnable. As usual though, you like to underrate the league, so we'll see what happens. Wait, I thought we were getting this awesome coach from the MVC who could turn around our program? Or, he's overrated. One of the two. I'd love to see him pull off a year with less than double-digit losses.

ISU plays UNI at home, Drake and Bradley on the road, and possibly Missouri State in Las Vegas. I'm going to be highly disappointed if we don't win those games. Need to start seeing a little improvement this year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 08:58 AM) I don't think anybody thinks that, it's just I think a lot of people *raises hand* think that he's the best tailback in the Big 10 RIGHT NOW. He doesn't have the credentials of a Mike Hart or P.J. Hill, but right now he's the best back in the Big 10. And to me, Illinois is not that hard to figure out, looking at their schedule. You would think they'll for sure beat Ball State and Northwestern and home, and win at Minnesota which gets you to 8-1. At Ohio State to me is a loss so that's 8-2. And then for some reason, I am worried about the Iowa game this weekend. I am just going to say they'll split between at Iowa and vs. Michigan, but I'm not sure which they will lose. That gets you to 9-3, and to me the worst case senario for Illinois is 8-4, which would still be a great season IMO. I'd prefer the best case senario of 10-2 though. I'm not sure you realize just how bad Iowa is. They lost to Iowa State for God's sakes.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Heads, tell me about Dodie Dunson I'm a quick one.... Is dyslexic, left ISU because the program we had in place didn't really help. Not really a true point guard, can play there, not your best option. Above average defender, outstanding free throw shooter. Streaky shooter in general. I can't imagine he'd ever start at IU, but not a horrible option for 10 or so minutes a game.

Konerko Speculation
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) 2 quick Arod factoids I heard from Olney today. Boras is looking for an 11 year deal for his 32 year old client and according to Buster the Yankees are prepared to offer Alex a contract that averages $31M a year. Now tell me, how and why would the Sox compete with that? I'm sure you could offer him about a hug a week.

Yeah, I think I remember this. People in the Sox organization, including in Chicago and Birmingham, however, realize he exists.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) On another note, I was at a poetry slam last night with a bunch of people, friends, and there was this Mets fan there. Very few baseball people, just two of us in fact, but I introduced myself to him as "a Braves fan and a White Sox fan." He said, "You bastard!" and love began. He talked about the Mets, I told him his team would be third for the next five years, he laughed and said "Not behind you bastards!" and we talked. Eventually, I said to him, "You know what? Let's go," and we took our stances, called three and wrestled. I brought him down and it was delightful. All before the poetry slam really started. And when it did, we all read. I brought Richard Wilbur and Lawrence Ferlinghetti's Baseball Canto. Canto, which I posted here once, is quite a poem to read aloud. I don't particularly care for it but I like reading it. If that makes sense. Cantu > Canto So how much of that story was bulls***?

Question for our resident Minor League guy on the board
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) I am not sure when the Rule V cutoff date is, but if its December or later, then I think its very possible Egbert is traded before the draft even comes up. He just looks like the kind of guy that will work well in trade for the Sox this offseason. Don't tell Heads. He's got quite a bit of value in a trade.
