  1. QUOTE(Nokona @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) You do realize this team is one of the youngest in the B10 and has half their offense and their defensive leader hurt for extended periods of time? Oh and that Kirk Ferentz guy is pretty good Not that good.
  2. There was no way he wasn't getting placed without getting traded. At least this means he has an honest shot at the club.
  3. Tell me again why Rosenfels couldn't be a QB for a s***ty team?
  4. I turned it on just as UNI got the ball back before punting to SIU. The Salukis were ungodly close to putting it in the endzone at the end.
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) SIU just can't win AT Northern Iowa...ever! Five yards away from tying it as time expires. So, apparently after McCarney resigned, Bobby Stoops called our AD and said something to the effect of "you made a big mistake - we're gonna try and run it up on you if at all possible this year." Expect Oklahoma to cover what will likely be a 40-45 point spread to begin with.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) You guys sure got pumped. That was backyard rape.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) I dropped a perfectly structured, perfectly put 178 word sentence on my Poli-Sci professor in a "B+" paper I wrote. It was a B+ paper because I had an 80 word sentence in there at one point and a 178 word sentence, both of which were perfectly sound sentences but which betrayed the fact that I didn't edit as well as I could've or should've. (I wrote a seven page paper in four hours.) It was a happy day. I got a big kick out of it when he said, "Dude, it's a fine sentence, but it's unnecessary!" Not in those words, of course. And then when I counted the words, I fell in love. I also recently wrote a 113 word sentence for a non-academic venture. 178 words is far too long for a sentence.
  8. I got to sit in my apartment because Iowa State does not believe in Midnite Madness. But hey, Staiger hit 40 straight 3's in practice, so I suppose that's good.
  9. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Go Missouri and Iowa State. [whine]Texas-Tech-A&M and UNC/South Carolina play at the same time on ABC[/whine] I'm pumped for tomorrow.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) I remember when I sat there at Huskie Stadium back to back years as a HS kid, watching NIU beat a bowl bound Wake Forest in 2002 and then Maryland in 2003 (who won 9 in a row after losing at FSU the next week) at Huskie Stadium and thinking the same thing that article says about Indiana playing at SIU, "what idiot scheduled THIS game?" NIU of course also hosted and beat Iowa State in 2003, but such idiocy is no surprise out of the Cyclones (sorry Heads). God that was a horrible football team.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Recruits confirmed to be attending our MM so far: Bobby Capobianco, Johnnie Williams, DeAndre McCamey, Alex Dragecevivcich, Joe McNicholas, DeWayne Evans, Rahjan Muhammad and Devon Hodges. Please...

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 01:55 AM) So I watched ER tonight, and really liked it. I'm just wondering if I can still keep my man card. You had five to begin with. You held on to them as long as you could.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) Soxtalk ranks #51 on top 100 baseball sites. http://www.top100baseball.com/www.soxtalk.com.html Take that, Pirates.
  14. I'm excited for the Texas matchup. I expect the staff to be fired up, and we traditionally don't lay down for them.
  15. Harrison Barnes to visit ISU this weekend.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) No, I haven't seen him pitch. Yes, I've spoken to one person who has, in person, and a few others who are familiar, from people on this site to a few other people I know. After that, I don't owe this thread anything and don't wish to contribute more. I don't think it's a crime he's not on the list, he's got a lot to prove, I admire his ethic and success so far. We'll see what happens. need to get back to Schuerholz Vigil '07, eh?
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) I'm still concerned about why his ERA jumped as it did when Lucy was promoted. He went from allowing an OPSA of .679 or lower in April, May, June, and July, and then it climbed all the way up to .799 in August, which coincided with Lucy's promotion. I would prefer to see what he can do in AAA with a different catcher next year, because if he's going to succeed in the majors, he's going to have to be able to work with a different catcher; Lucy is not starting material. That was one of my concerns as well.
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) Says the guy who likes him because of his name. See the above post -- I'm not trying to trash the guy. I admire his ethic and his work, but that doesn't spell success and I don't think he has the stuff to be much more than bad at the ML level. I'm just asking why you feel that he has the ceiling of "bad". Have you seen him pitch? Have you been communicating with scouts or staffers in Birmingham? Are you going off of anything more than a hunch?
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Give me a break -- you know as well as I that he's a fringe prospect who has a lot to prove. And since you didn't answer my question -- which player does he belong on the list over -- I'm not going to waste time explaining to you why Egbert's age is a factor. Where did I ever mention his being on the list or not? I didn't even look at the list, but it sounds like his age is one of the reasons you are marginalizing him as a prospect.
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) You were making incredibly sarcastic comments to hitlesswonder. I wasn't "attacking" you -- I was definitely teasing you, but I thought you could handle such, especially when you're going off about how someone claimed Egbert will never make it when they didn't say such a thing. His velocity is mid-80s, if I recall correctly, and he's beating up minor leaguers in a pitcher's park at an age where success doesn't necessarily indicate he's got a huge ML future. He definitely doesn't belong on that list, and it still baffles me that anybody thinks so. Why is his age a factor?
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) What kind of fastball does he have? What kind of velocity, location and movement? I really don't know, but you seem to. Egbert's track record speaks for itself. It doesn't mean he is a lock for some spectacular future, but looking at his cohorts at that level and their track records, I think its a very positive set of indications that he is likely to succeed. I am looking forward to see how he does at Charlotte. He throws two fastballs a curve and a change. His fastball sits upper 80s to 90. His 2-seamer gets the groundouts.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) You have to be better than the people on that list, for one, and have a higher ceiling. Where was the indignation when Heath Phillips wasn't rewarded for his season last year with inclusion on such a list? Phillips was often referred to as lazy and never put up anywhere near the periphs that Jack has.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) He doesn't have much of a fastball and as such doesn't belong on this list. Besides, I don't think he's better than anyone on that list, and he definitely has no high ceiling. He's "smart," and he has good control, and he throws a good sinker, but with his fastball, he's going to have to prove some things at AAA and at the majors before he can be indignant that someone says he isn't a top prospect by any standard. I can't believe people are actually indignant because Jack Egbert isn't on this list. I didn't know you had to have a 95+ fastball to be on the list. Maybe I missed that part.
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) Don't mind Rock. He goes crazy anytime you insinuate that Jack Egbert isn't a top two prospect in baseball or a top two arm. Jack's got a long way to go before he makes anything resembling a top ten list and I doubt he does much. He's certainly not a future two or three or ace or bullpen stud or whatever people seem to think he'll be. Give us your rundown on Jack then. What have you heard about him? I'd like to know. I haven't seen anyone projecting him as a ace, but more a pitcher that should have an easier transition to the majors than most. But then again, go on and predict that he may not make it - quite the limb to go out on.
