  1. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) A bad #5 starter can really hurt a team. It has hurt the Sox in the recent past. And these guys in the pool to be come #5 starter have very little major league experience and no major league success yet. Do you really think there is very little chance that the would combine to make up a bad #5 starter in 2007. It is anything but unlikely. And, it is not at all uncommon for SP's to go on the DL. If/when that happens in 2007, then two of those guys will be in the rotation for some period of time. Do you think that lack of depth could hurt the Sox? I'm sure that's how KW saw it. That doesn't help the Sox at all this season. And THAT is the problem. As a GM, not everything is about the coming season. If you don't think you're in contention, then by all means work on the team's future. Feel free to make the current team worse to build on the future in those situations. But when you've got a legit chance to go to the WS, maybe that isn't the right time to trade a legit #3 SP for prospects that won't help you this year. BMac could have been the exact same injury risk. He's not exactly built Ford Tough. Like I said before, I know what you're saying. I learned that I just feel better if I personally sit back and don't b**** about something I can't change. Then again, that would make this place useless.... I think KW is really worried about the future market for pitching, and doesn't want to have to pay 10+ million for a Gil Meche, so he's stocking up. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) I consider trusting info when I get it. I haven't gotten any of this inside info yet. Until then, claims that it exist are worthless. Maybe this inside info is that JR is looking to trim the payroll this year (Garcia) and in the relatively near future (McCarthy) and that is what these trades are significantly about. If so, that doesn't make the deal any better. It just puts the blame on JR, not KW. Again, my point is that we have no idea what this supposed information is, what its source is, how credible or reliable it is. So, it is basically nothing. I won't go any further, but Jason's source is not Ozzie Guillen's mechanic's half sister.
  2. I'll add in I understand what you're saying, and that was my first concern, but KW has been right more often than not, so I'll trust his judgment on Floyd. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Well, then I don't have any idea what this inside information is, if it has any credibility or value. So basically that info is nothing and is worthless to me and every other Sox fan. Well, Jason would know better than nearly anyone on this board, and let's just say I'd trust him on this one. EDIT: Wow, I'm trusting....
  3. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) I'm excited to see winning and championships, regardless of whether it involves the development of our minor league prospects or not. And I think Gio is a long step away, if it is just a step. He's never succeeded at a level higher than A-ball. He is yet to master AA. I don't think he'll be major league ready to start 2008. Maybe mid-2008, but I doubt he'll show particularly good things at that point, given his age and experience. He might be two steps away. Certainly two years. Unless of course we rush him. FWIW, I was talking about Danks. I was never as high on Gio as most, but I'll acknowledge his worth. If the fifth spot costs us this year, and its not the other guys in the rotation, I will eat part of my White Sox hat and take a picture. I think KW saw the chance to deal BMAC for one guy who has a higher ceiling than BMac as well as one of the top BP prospects (FWIW) in baseball. The other two guys in the deal will likely not amount to much.
  4. Bullpen pitchers are the plantains of the pitching market. There may be some delicious ones in there, but as was once said on "Family Guy" Chris: Hey, mom, look at these bananas. Peter: Why you smart little bastard. Lois: Now Chris, these are called "plantains". In fact, most women prefer them to normal size bananas because they're exotic and flavorful. Peter: Yeah, Lois, I see all the sorority girls clamoring for the plantain section.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) Can't, got people over....playing some call of duty online Alright...then I'll say it in public. Get your worthless ass over to FS and do some work. I'm trying to line up an interview with one of the guys we acquired, but since you don't care enough to go on AIM, I won't say which one, even if you ask. BTW, I kind of feel like I'm one of like seven people excited by Danks. Have other people just not heard of him?
  6. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) One unproven rookie who has never had major league success. We went from 6 legitimate, quality major league SP's in 2006 to 4 in 2007. So, we have a big hole in one rotation spot and no depth. What if a SP goes on the DL (not exactly a remote possibility)? Then our rotation and our team is in serious sh*t. I suppose I'm just a guy that's excited to see the development of a guy. People wondered where our top-10 draft pick, lefty with great stuff was. We've got him now, and he's a step away. I'm feeling pretty confident that Floyd will have the fifth spot, and it's not like he's just been up for spot starts. He didn't have a great year last year, but I'm excited to see what he can do. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) Wow, that is awesome. I laughed so hard when reading this. Good thing he towed 17 and swindled 9 pads in 14 attempts. I know. I BabelFished it and had to post.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) To add to that, those steal numbers are not impressive. Good base stealers in the minors put up ridiculous totals (see Ruddy Yan) and when I see guys like Rogowski and company getting right around 20 steals I'm not very impressed (unless I know a guy is ridiculously fast). You got to be really careful about looking at certain minor league stats, in the ends stats are great in the minors but very few of them (especially offensively) deal with the tools/upside (unless we are talking about K/9Inning which is a very good indicator). Um....I think it's impressive for a guy Rogowski's size. Men that size don't exactly move that well on average.
  8. Knights Rotation that starts out with Danks, Broadway, Phillips should be nice.
  9. We'd have one rookie in the rotation unless I'm missing something major.
  10. Top of my head? 1. Danks 2. Gio 3. Sweeney 4. Fields 5. Broadway We don't have much after that.
  11. http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/pl/433/433579logp06.html Danks game log from last year. Got stronger through the season.
  12. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) If it was true that the trade was because of issues between Ozzie and Brandon, KW chose poorly. I'm not saying that was it, but it made it easier than if his manager said they cannot go on without him. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) It was actually the opposite. I think he was a guy that pitched in some very hitter friendly leagues. You should get on AIM.
  13. Bernstein to Iowa.
  14. Phillips isn't a really big prospect, and Masset is a BP arm.
  15. Found a pic of the mystery man... translated....
  16. I dunno, Ozzie thinks we treat the kid like he's "Cy f***ing Young", so I don't know if he's sold on his super duper ability. FWIW, Danks was the top Rangers prospect coming into this year, per BA. The fact he throws with his left hand helps, but he's 21 and in AAA, so he's still got room to grow.
  17. http://www.futuresox.com/frontpage/modules...cle&sid=379
  18. I highly doubt Masset will be in the running for the fifth spot, but that's just me.
  19. QUOTE(soxwon @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) i really think most of you are so wrong. this will be a great deal for us, all the young arms we got are going to produce. just trust me on this, this will be a trade for all to remember and in the long run praise. have faith in KW- all of you . I don't know why you're referring to me, I'm probably the least "down" about this deal.
  20. Well, just get Willie to get a BMac Rangers jersey...his arm will fall off. I really don't know what to think. Having talented lefties is always good to have. The deal is essentiall BMac for Danks and Masset, the other two guys shouldn't matter. Danks is probably a better prospect long term than BMac, but not right now, and Masset is a pen arm that could help right now.
  21. I'm convinved there were issues between Ozzie and Brandon, and the Brandon issue was the easier one to deal with.
  22. You're only going to get so much for someone who hasn't started for even half a season, IMO.
  23. 4 18 24 29 31
  24. I'll reserve judgment.
  25. well, I suppose that's fine, I never liked Young.
