QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) Egbert is the guy that really put himself worthy of this list, probably relatively higher up but when we finished the list we didn't quite know. We really had a ton of debating and it was very hard to put together the list. I TOLD YOU

midseason top25
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) Im assuming Phillips is Heath Phillips...If so, I think you guys way overated him on that list. I know our prospects arent the greatest but even so id have him at 18-20. 10-12 is the area I really dissented. I'm higher on production than most.

128 kids suspended in Hammond
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) You are in school to get one thing, an education. You are not there to make buddies with the teachers. You are instructed in math, science, social science and arts to help round you out and prepare you for college or the work force. Teachers are authority figures, not your buddy. It isnt a one on one relationship with your teacher, its a one to many relationship. And the comment about being told that you can eat or drink just like a dog. At work most people have a set time that you can have lunch. At some places you have a set place to eat said lunch. The rules you learn in high school are in preparation for the rules you have in the workforce. It's also to grow socially. To develop relationships, etc.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) I don't think it's a problem to talk about short term and long term approaches. A business manager does both, so why not here? I read it as Brian needs to start hitting bombs now. Mea culpa.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) One thing that really was unsettling was the comments that Anderson either needs to steal bases or hit home runs? This was in the Trib this morning. The guy is far and away the best defensive player on the field and is finally hitting the ball. Now he needs to either start running or swing for the fences. Guillen needs to just let him play. You're f***ing me, right?

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) i believe heads, that you are required to regale us with at least one drunken story I'm not really a drinker. I coulda gone to Iowa City to get drunk this weekend, but I stayed back to watch the Sox. Smart choice. Too bad Row44 and I don't go to the same school, cause we were both ready to.

Moving to California
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Yeah, we took 80 through most of Nebraska, then ducked south into Colorado, don't remember exactly which road that was though. Probably will be repeating the same voyage next summer, driving home to get married. I don't know how that stretch of highway doesn't have more cars jerked into the ditch than it does.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) I understand protecting B.A. when he was hitting so poorly through April and May. But there's just no reason to keep doing it now. Now he's going out against good pitchers and actually looking good. He's spraying the ball to all fields, etc. He's beating good pitchers and getting hits off of them when he faces them, good righties included. The only thing he hasnt' found yet is his power stroke, and that will probably come with time. There is no more reason right now to protect B.A. than there is to protect Uribe. And there's especially no reason to keep B.A. on the bench for 4 games out of the last 7 with the 2 teams ahead of us in the AL Central. Brian is no Cy f***ing Young. Or Willie f***ing Mays for that matter. He'll be ready approximately the same time as Brandon, sometime in 09.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) That's a good point. However, I still think there's some things that we're all not privy to which would be some reasons why this is happening. Just so I'm clear, I'm for BA over Mack - I agree with you all on that. However, I'm trying to say that there's a reason why BA is being 'protected' if you will. He's hitting .298 since the break. That protection is hardly needed. If we're serious about a World Series, we need to be serious about who our f***ing centerfielder is. You can play the guy with Gold Glove D who is hitting .298 sinec the break or the one hitting .276 in the same time span with crappy d. And I don't just bring it up since I'm one of BA's biggest backers, but it's one of the most glaring issues.

Moving to California
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) You took a much more southerly route than we did. Maybe a good thing. We got stuck in the middle of the mountains just west of Denver after some big rig overturned and blocked the whole freeway. Did you take I-80 at all? I'll apologize to you now for the state of Nebraska. People think Iowa is boring. Just wait til you get west out of Omaha/Council Bluffs.

2006 Congressional Elections Thread
Rex, have you seen anything on the Braley-Whalen matchup in Nussle's vacated seat? It's like the only contested seat NE Iowa has seen in 10 years with Nussle, plus Grassley and Harkin having those seats for as long as they want, it seems.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) Milkman, with all due respect (and this time, I seriously am not trying to yap at you or be a jerk), unless you know what's going on in that clubhouse every day, you can't possibly know what's best. We can ASSUME what's best all day long (which we're all good at around here). I think I have a pretty good guess as to why this is happening, but honestly, I'm not willing to put it down here on the board. But I will say this - I think that in September, we're going to be better off then some teams, because of the "Sunday lineups". Will it be enough to get us in the playoffs? Time will tell. Kap, the issue is that same Sunday lineup costing us too many games before September. Mack's the whipping boy around here, but it seems like he costs us a run every friggin game cause he's been misplaced. It's not his fault, but he's not in a position to succeed. We have a left fielder who's doing a hell of a lot worse than our centerfielder. However, Mack doesn't start there....ever.
