QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) Well then obviously you and Balta both are Glenn Beck worshipers. Well, McCain did actually say that. And I think he suggested kicking Russia out of the G8 too. He was totally talking out of his ass.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) Russia is a rogue state who is run by a power-mad dictator. We gain nothing by negotiations. We should keep the system there to spite them. That'll show them. Had John McCain been elected this would have been his official policy towards Russia (if what he said on the campaign trail is a safe assumption, and I'd say it is).
-
Obama offered Russia the carrot - and it looks like they'll go for it: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090923/ap_on_...r_wh/us_us_iran I mean, really, that is apparently all it took. If you are Russia why would you have bothered otherwise?

lol, forwarding that to a couple of friends.

Abortion. Yawn

That's more of a Sunni thing than a Shia thing. Ahmadinejad (after being forced to answer the question cuz he had to stray from rhetoric to do so) said he would accept whatever resolution the Palestinians accepted. Iran may be many things but one of the things they are not is irrational. They have foreign policy objectives just like any other nation.
-
No honestly Bush wasn't an idiot.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I am told that is what the UN is supposed to be for. If not, we are pissing a lot of money away on nothing. Besides I feel giving the nuclear ability to a country like Iran is way more destabilizing than any military action could be. It's definitely not worse to Iran turning Israel into a glass parking lot after we negotiate with them, and they keep up their proud history of chasing a nuclear program anyway. If Iran had a nuke they might get them good one time and also kill a bunch of Palestinians and damage a major Islamic holy site in the process so that won't go over to well. Israel still has like 200 nukes and a missile defense system to boot. Iran would be obliterated if they did that.

QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Sure you do. One more of these posts and you can have a 10-day vacation. I told you to read the Filibuster rules thread and this is a pretty direct violation.

If nothing else, negotiations are political cover for when we have to push for sanctions, first off to show that we tried and secondly to show that we aren't the evil caricature of the United States that they portray us as. That's what it looks like is going to happen since Iran is just kind of doing the bare minimum to stall Obama.
-
Not negotiating isn't going to do anything to stop their nuclear program either. That's the equivalent of burying your head in the sand/plugging your ears and going "la-la-la-la" and pretending nothing is happening. I can understand the principle but not the reality. It won't do anything, not even delay it.

Reagan but he wasn't actually dumb. Palin on the other hand I'm convinced I could talk circles around. In 6 weeks I'll also have the same level of education she has except I will have gotten more out of mine.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) Well, Obama will be in attendance, right. And I do not believe he has the balls to walk out on A-JAD. Yeah, that he probably wouldn't do. His delegates would but he wouldn't do it himself.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) she was warning Chinese about big government? Yes she was. And of course "freedom." In China. I have to imagine that got some silent chuckles.
-
The precedent says otherwise though. There is some perception that this administration is anti-Israel but all they've done is some mild half-assed arm twisting on a far right Israeli government because they aren't really serious about the peace process. Other than that they follow the same protocols every other administration does.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) They are the ones who are going to finance Obama's health plan. Yeah but that's not what she's talking about and she didn't even try to go there. Generally speaking, in foreign policy nobody gives a s*** about someone else's domestic politics (except some people here in the U.S.).
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Well the US won't join them, I'd bet on that. How do you figure that? The US boycotted the UN anti-racism forum for basically the same reason and a bunch of European countries walked out when Ahmadinejad started his usual anti-Semitic rants.
-
Seriously though why is she in Hong Kong criticizing health care reform? Why would Chinese investors give a flying f*** about domestic American politics? There is no transcript of her speech but she was apparently going on about death panels again and talking about big government. Really though... I mean at least make a half-assed effort to explain how it could affect China... I mean damn. She doesn't even pretend to understand macroeconomics.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) During a time of war as well. For shame. I didn't even think of that. That is technically treason, or at least aiding and abetting the enemy. This is disturbing.

Sarah Palin - the latest conservative to criticize U.S. policy on foreign soil and apologize for America. Flagged as un-American.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. People are, who they are. And you just happen to be an asshole. Not your fault, it's who you are. lol sorry that was too easy, I had a burning urge
